Prior to sitting down here in 2023 to watch the 2022 Chinese crime movie "Wong Gam Dai To Yuk" (aka "Golden Escape"), then I had actually never even heard about it. I just stumbled upon the movie by random chance, and with it being an Asian movie, of course I had to watch it.
Writer and director Yi Huang put together a rather wholesome and entertaining script for the storyline. And I have to say that I was rather entertained by the story in the movie, from beginning to end. It was a pretty straight forward prison story, sure, but the storyline in the movie just worked out quite well.
The movie has a good cast ensemble, though the only performer I was familiar on the cast list was Sam Lee. It should be noted that the acting performances in "Wong Gam Dai To Yuk" were good, and the actors did bring their characters to life on the screen in a fulfilling manner.
The story is a good combination of a regular prison movie mixed up with some heist elements, and some good old fashioned action as well.
If you enjoy prison and crime movies, then by all means give "Wong Gam Dai To Yuk" a chance, should you get the opportunity. I was genuinely entertained by this movie, and can warmly recommend it.
