A Slow And Handsome Day
boblipton25 January 2024
It's a silent documentary about a day in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A donkey stands with a full pack of firewood. A tall man in overalls leans against a wall. It's a slow, sleepy start to the daily routines in the. Artist's colony, with titles that rhyme about the easy daily rhythms that begin with the sun rising and ending with a fire to warm the house.

The images at the start seem drawn from the images of the artists' work, and we do get some of those, both the latest crayons of the colony and the costumes of the local Indians as they do a rain dance which works to interrupt the habits.

Santa Fe is still a place that artist flock to, although it has been superseded by other locations; my aunt liked Taos in the same state. But this is a nicely drawn portrait of a time and place.
