Fun show
pallmid7 June 2023
Easy to watch tv that shows various carving techniques and skills. They give just enough explanation as to what the carvers are doing and what the pros and cons of the different wood that they work with are. Judging seems fair, which I really appreciate, and the talent here is absolutely wonderful.

I also really liked that there was a camaraderie and respect between all the contestants. Sure, a little drama can be entertaining, but a friendly completion was a nice breath of fresh air.

I enjoyed the variety of challenges and prompts that were given as well. The shiphead challenge was probably my favorite.

Highly suggest and I really hope they give this another season!

Charming, decent role models carve rocking art
donal-phipps-17 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A wonderful cast of carvers whose passion for their craft shines through in this endearing show. Although each contestant wants to win, they also care enough about their fellow contestants to celebrate their successes and skills.

The hosts are charismatic, fun and set an irresistible "let's do it!" tone from start to finish.

Adam Beach in particular brings infectious enthusiasm and good humour as the contestants battle each week to gain the upper hand in a breakneck 2 hour "quick carve" which gives the winner an advantage for the gruelling 8 hour "master carve". Every week's master carve really is a showstopper moment, as the jaw-dropping sculptures come together.

Carving is the backdrop, people being great humans is the forefront. And the carving skills are stunning.

Watch it!

Stumbled across and loved

Warning: Spoilers
I was channel hopping one day due to too many adverts, I literally stumbled across this show and started watching. Witching five minutes I'd clicked l, "record series"

I was watching one weekend and my OH came in and said what's this rubbish? However, he was glued to it also! :)

Too many reality shows now are all about relationships, false people parading round in nothing, and all it serves is to actually show up people and all this for audience laughs. This one is nothing like that, as one reviewer points "it's easy watching" and it's just that.

The talent these people have is just astounding. Chris from Wales, was in my view, by far the best carver. With young Sam from Scotland close behind. I really wasn't a fan of Sylvia's abstract style and thought she replicated far too often.

If you get a chance, I'd definitely recommend this show. I'm just hoping we get to see a second series.

Season 2, please!
charlee-c9 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It's season 1. Sometimes a bit awkward. The judges, and the host ( I love Adam Beach), are a bit clunky at times, and certainly editing issues.

This is a competition reality show about carving tree trunks into sculptors. The format is the same for each task of a 2 hour quick carve and a 7 hour master carve. Including the final.

I really hope there's a second season. I also would love to see incorporation of technology, bigger, and more dynamic tasks. I'd like to see the final with well rested finalists, and more time to work out their masterpieces with their helpers.

In the end the show is really amazing, and I am keeping my eyes peeled for more.

Sometimes abstract is just not that good
rps-2416012 May 2023
If being abstract means you never have to compete with the same criteria as other contestants, then this is the show for you. Constantly overlooking her poor carving skills in comparison to the other contestants on the show made it a mockery. There needs to be a competition like this for carvers who are not main stream so they can be compared to other contestants such as their self. Continually overlooking poor carving details and finishing made this unfair to the other contestants who were constantly criticized for their poor carving finishing skills. The judges should be ashamed of themselves.

It started out great then all downhill
mkmalin-4695718 August 2023
In completion shows there's always some favorites with judges but I couldn't help but laugh at what I was watching the criticism was a complete joke you downed on ryan for using his same style and using what he does back home same with sam and the repeating but didnt say any of that to chris in the carousel round when he says ive made hundreds of hares and then you all are like oh i love it of sylvia who did the exact opposite of what the judges asked for all the time cause it's her style then she twists this story about the art to me didnt fit with what was going on at all in the round I love the concept of the show but it needs to change some things around didn't care for the one sided judges or them playing favorites and saving sylvia basically every time make parameters and stick to them if its make a mammal the person doing a fish should be gone not saved cause lines were better makes rules stick to them it was kind of frustrating watching the judging one second you will be like oh ok i can see where youre coming from the next you ignore that flaw on someone elses and I feel like if the rules applied to everyone it would make it better and more fair.
