A Fun and Weird Star Trek franchise delivers a stand-out episode

If you're watching Lower Decks, you've already become accustomed to the goofy nature this animated series has adopted for the Trek universe. And while the characters and plotlines do tend towards the humorous, there's still plenty of core Star Trek values on display.

"Something Borrowed, Something Green" is quite simply a wonderful, beautifully written episode of Lower Decks. The comic pacing for both main story lines is excellent...so many quotable lines!

Fan favorite T'endi gets a deep dive into what makes her tick, and what makes other Orions tick, and why she is such a wonderful recruit to the Federation's exploration divisions despite also being an alpha-female Orion in her own right!

I would put this into the top 20 of any Star Trek episode, from all the franchises. Endlessly rewactable.

Too goofy

Lower Decks has always been fun and weird. But in season 4 the plots have become just goofy and stupid. It looks like Boim and the rest have become dumber after promotion to Ltd. JGs.

The bonsai fights, the twin Twains and Mozarts on holodeck... just childish and pointless. Then the slapstick comedy where Mariner gets a knife stabbed three times in her shoulder. It felt like the Stooges to me.

But rockbottom in this episode is the pheromones dungeon on Orion. Looks like Lower Decks blows the "women are the greatest" horn now, too, after ST Discovery shoved that political agenda already down our throats. Men on Orion are mindless sex objects that do anything if only they can sniff the pheromones of women under their arms. And if course Tendi is a bad-ass assassin that everyone on Orion fears. If this would habe been shown the other way round (woman being the sex puppets of men) the outrage and shitstorm on social media would have been epic and the writers of this episode would have to swear to never again write an ST episode.

In Lower Decks all the idiots and weirdos are male while females are either sly, genius, brave, bad-ass or reasonable. And season 4 stretches this premise to the max.
