wholesome filler episode.

No season arc progression which some might not like, but this is a super wholesome episode.

It continues this seasons quality in both the story and the laughs.

This episode is akin to the multi mini story / vigntettes of the past with the lead cast being stuck in a cave and regale us with side stories with other people.

This episode doesn't feel like a filler untill you've seen it and realised it is a filler episode as it's so well written with interesting stories for boims, tendi, rutherford and beckett.

The ending is perhaps a bit on the nose / predictable, but i can forgive them for it as it made sense :D

Another great episode from a continuosly great season !

What this show does best in a nutshell

This episode was the perfect encapsulation of what I love about this show. You can really tell that the writers behind Lower Decks love the source material, and the love-letter writing style was fully used here. If I could recommend one episode out of all the ones currently released over the 4 seasons for someone to watch to understand what this show is trying to do, it'd be this one. Even though it was pretty disconnected from any arcs or ongoing plots, it took a breath and gave time to reconnect with the 4 main characters, and as much as I enjoy the arcs that are being told each season, more episodes like this would be just as welcome. One of my new favourite episodes of Star Trek let alone Lower Decks.

Super Meta Episode
Willowfang21 October 2023
So right away my friend and I feel like they're poking fun at the Paramount Stage 16 set, AKA "Planet Hell" that they used for tons of episodes, and then once I saw they were doing lots of flashback, I shouted out "They're doing a Writer's Strike Episode."

This was really lots of fun trying to spot all the nods, real or imagined, about other Star Trek Episodes that used this set, as well as seeing it as a Writer's Strike show "cobbled together" with flashbacks.

I got to wonder if this really was a Strike nod or it just seemed to fit the way I saw it. In any case, this episode was a masterpiece of meta.
