If you consider the basic set up, high emotions and bombastic situations are inevitable

I watch a lot of reality dating shows as it gives some good insight into how people respond in a very specific social setting. Basically if you are interested in seeing how couples whose next step in their relationship is marriage deal with their issues or not you might find this interesting. I did nit feel the show enforced the parameters well as there was bullying and rule breaking. It is interesting and a unique offering in the reality sating genre.

Spoilers.

Sophienne and Lina I found Lina to be incredibly narcissist and controlling. I thought it was very selfish she was unwilling to support Sophienne's dream he had since childhood. If you really love someone you should be there to help them achieve their dreams. She said it was due to her family and then it was revealed that was not the reason at all. She effectively ruined the intent of the show when she bullied Romane into not selecting Sophienne or he her for their three week loving partner. She basically did not want to give him the things he needed in a relationship but was unwilling to let him go to pursue happiness. Her approaching Romane with Sarah in tow was bully behavior. Why blame the girl who is just following the intent of the show? If she had a problem she should have talked to her boyfriend. The fact that Romane and Sophienne were even that attracted to each other highlighted the problems they each had in their relationships. Lina was an insecure, aggressive bully. She was wrong when she cornered Romane before the selection, in the wrong when she burst in on Sophienne during the three week test and wrong when she used Linsay's unfortunate situation with Scott as a springboard to once again verbally attack Romane and turn all the other participants against her. Her behavior toward Romane was unacceptable. She did not need to be honest with her. Did not owe that to her at all. Romane was too nice of a person to tell her off and just say it's not my job to care about you. Go talk to your boyfriend. I felt sorry for Sophienne for being with such a toxic harpy until he essentially painted a scarlet letter on Romane and participated in the verbal abuse session that Lina instigated. No one owed Lina an apology least of all Romane. She was the one that should have been apologizing for her petty, jealous, deplorable behavior. And she was a hypocrite. Her behavior with Andre was very flirty at times.

Romane and Theo There is nothing worse than feeling alone when you are with someone. I felt bad for Romane as I think she loved Theo and was hurt by his emotional distance. He loved her but was not into her enough to change his life to gibe her an actual space in it. Not making time to do things is a choice and not providing for the other person emotionally is a choice. Romane was vulnerable to anyone that she had a connection with who gave her attention. So Sophienne being flirty then turning on her was a very wrong thing to do to Romane. Theo was so flirty with Sarah he had no room to talk about any flirtation Romane had. To his credit he comforted Romane when the group turned on her but I wish he would have verbally defended her. He could have said how Sophienne had smugly stated he was interested in Romane. But he didn't.

Catherine and Richy Richy looked physically intimidating but wound up being the nicest teddy bear of a man. Lindsay could not have chosen a more supportive three week partner and I do think he bolstered her enough to stand up to Scott. I was disappointed in Catherine as she had some harsh criticism and made some mean comments to Romane. I think she was too immature to be married. Her mess would drive a wedge in any relationship where the other person was neater.

Lindsay and Scott Lindsay seemed like a very nice person. I was disappointed in her that she also turned on and was harsh to Romane. Romane was in the worst position knowing everything Scott did and trying to be honest without becoming the scapegoat for all their relationship problems. She was blamed anyway. Blamed for telling and for not telling. You cannot win in those situations. Lindsay and Scott were locked in a pattern where he would do something hurtful and she would forgive him. He was unable to fully understand his own wrong doings. He gave lip service to what he did but there was no true remorse. It was clear she would have forgiven him again out if habit if the others had not changed that pattern. It appears they broke up and I hope for her that is the case.

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly do not waste your time watching this. The show was completely a big disappointment. The couples are young with very little life experiences. They honestly do not know if they're coming or going. I felt like the scenes were scripted, set up and predetermined. These couples would not know real life problem if they hit them in the face.

There needs to be a different way how they match the couples. In my opinion, I don't think any of the couples were matched with the right person they vibe with at the beginning of the show. That's what made the show boring.

And I cannot believe how badly they showed and treated Romane. I hope she finds the happiness she deserves.

Peak Trashy Reality TV

This show was just what I needed! I binge watched it in two days. If you like reality shows like Love is Blind, Big Brother, Real Housewives, and Love and Hip Hop, I expect you will like The Ultimatum France. It takes place in France and is available on Netflix to watch dubbed into English, or in French with English subtitles.

The premise is that six straight couples, all in their 20s, have six weeks to decide if they are going to get married or break up. That is the ultimatum. They are all really attractive and there are lots of pool scenes. Everybody is temporarily matched up with someone who is not their partner, and has to share an apartment for a few weeks. This leads to some seduction, flirtation, and jealousy, and also to self discovery, growth, and strengthening of the original relationship in some cases.

We get to watch a lot of messy drama and fighting and making up. It's addictively entertaining. The scenery in France and Belgium is absolutely beautiful too.
