'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' "Aliens Among Us" (2013)

Opening thoughts: The Scooby Doo franchise does have a good track record when it comes to episodes centered around aliens ("Spooky Space Kook", "Strange Encounters of a Scooby Kind", "Space Ape at the Cape", "Area 51 Adjacent" all being good and more Scooby Doo episodes with aliens for villains, plus 'Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders' still holds up very well). So there were expectations for "Aliens Among Us" to be at least good, and actually had no doubt it would be.

Aliens Among Us" was good, as was hoped. It was at the same time also a little disappointing, after seeing all the previous Season 2 episodes being good and more and with the season's mid period being as good as it was, and a couple of things that are usually so good in 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' and what made it as good as it was somehow didn't quite work here surprisingly. If this is sounding like "Aliens Among Us" is bad, it isn't and that has been said already. Am merely saying that 'Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated' has been capable of better.

Good things: Starting with the good, the animation is fine, especially with the wonderfully creepy designs for the aliens. The music has the right amount of energy and creepiness and the theme tune has the right amount of spookiness and subtle thrills. The voice acting is adept from all involved, nobody to fault this time, after seeing a couple of the previous episode where somebody didn't fit.

Did think that the Spooky Space Kook cameo was neat. Nova is great, beautiful, cute and sympathetic. It was interesting seeing Brad and Judy becoming more evil with each episode, this was probably the episode that persuaded me eventually that their big reveal a few episodes into the season was not quite as premature as initially felt. The planospheric disc plotline is extremely compelling, with a good amount of excitement and tension.

Bad things: Which sadly weren't there in the rather thinly plotted and predictable main mystery that doesn't do anywhere near enough with everything to do with the aliens.

Usually love Sheriff Stone, but he comes over as annoying due to his dumbness being beyond facepalm-worthy.

Closing thoughts: Good episode on the whole but not a great one.

7/10.

Mulder? Where are you?

This is a fine episode with an interesting plot. Not the best episode yet, nor of course the worst. I'd say a low 8 such as 8.1 or 8.2/10. The aliens themselves....well I shan't say anything for fear of spoilers, you'll see what they are when you watch.
