Festival of the Living Dead is not only the latest Tubi Original, it’s the latest film from Jen and Sylvia Soska. That’s a bit of a come down for the sisters, who, after Dead Hooker in a Trunk and American Mary, were loudly proclaimed to be the future of horror. Dave Parker, who was in the same position some years back, recently used a Tubi Original, You Shouldn’t Have Let Me In to prove he can still make an entertaining film. Can the Soska Sisters do the same?
Ash and Iris are looking to do something to celebrate Ash’s birthday. Her boyfriend Kevin and some friends stop by with a birthday present, tickets to the titular Festival of the Living Dead.

Sosie Bacon, who recently starred opposite Kate Winslet in the Emmy-winning HBO Max series “Mare of Easttown,” has landed her first lead role in a studio movie.
The 29-year-old actor has been tapped to star as Rose in the Paramount Players film “Something’s Wrong With Rose.”
Based on the short “Laura Hasn’t Slept,” the movie centers on a doctor whose mind begins to turn on her after she witnesses a horrifying occurrence. The logline reads: “After a bizarre, traumatic event involving a patient, a psychiatrist begins to experience terrifying occurrences that only she can see, and grows increasingly convinced that she’s being pursued by a malevolent supernatural force.”
Parker Finn will write and direct “Something’s Wrong With Rose,” which is slated to start production in New Jersey this October. Temple Hill is producing for Paramount Players, a division of the studio that creates genre films from contemporary voices.

Things are heating up for the Summer House cast. We're, of course, talking about season five's highly anticipated reunion, which promises fights between Hannah Berner and, pretty much, everyone else. In the recently released first look, Hannah finds herself in the hot seat for a myriad of reasons. For starters, Kyle Cooke calls out the Berning In Hell podcast host for the way she informed them about her engagement to comedian Des Bishop. Namely, Kyle is upset that his fiancée and Hannah's good friend Amanda Batula found out about the engagement on social media. The Loverboy boss snaps, "You let a girl that took bullets for you find out about your engagement on...

Joan Micklin Silver, who forged her own way as a female director in the 1970s and ’80s and helmed seven features including “Crossing Delancey” and “Hester Street,” died Thursday in Manhattan. She was 85.
Her daughter, Claudia Silver, told the New York Times the cause was vascular dementia.
The 1975 independent film “Hester Street” was the story of a Jewish immigrant couple in the 1890s. The low-budget black and white film, in Yiddish with English subtitles, proved a hard sell to studios, and was eventually financed by her husband, real estate developer Raphael D. Silver. It won rave reviews and earned $5 million at the box office, an impressive amount at the time. The 21-year old Carol Kane was nominated for a best actress Oscar for her role as the wife, Gitl.

Her daughter, Claudia Silver, told the paper that the cause of death was vascular dementia. In addition to Claudia, Silver’s survivors include two other daughters, Dina and Marisa Silver; a sister, Renee; and five grandchildren. Her long-time husband, Raphael D. Silver, died at age 83 in 2013 after a skiing accident in Park City, Utah.
An indie pioneer who first got her start writing a series of educational films for companies like Encyclopedia Britannica and the Learning Corporation of America in the 1970s, Silver was long aware of the barriers that would likely prevent her from entering into the male-dominated filmmaking milieu.
And yet the Omaha native soon made her own opportunities, including writing and directing her first film, the low-budget drama 1975 “Hester Street.

You don’t know her. Nobody knows her. The one and only Mariah Carey has always been She Who Must Not Be Known, and her new book The Meaning of Mariah Carey (with Michaela Angela Davis) is an instant classic of pop diva lit. For any connoisseur of music memoirs, it’s more than just Mariah’s blessing to the suffering world of 2020; it’s the diva leadership we need and deserve right now. Every page is packed with her over-the-top personality — dishy, funny, moody, chatty, with more shade than a Christmas tree farm.

In November 1984, Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen (No More Love on the Run)” dethroned Stevie Wonder’s “I Just Called to Say I Love You” to take the Number One spot on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was a brash fusion of soul, reggae, R&b, and pop unlike anything that had been heard before on Top 40 radio, and the singer followed it up with equally eclectic hits like “Loverboy,” “Suddenly,” and “When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going.”

From Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer to The Shrine to Girl House to his latest feature, The Cleaning Lady, filmmaker Jon Knautz has always delivered an intriguing variety of genre stories. He recently celebrated the world premiere of The Cleaning Lady at the Arrow Video FrightFest UK film festival, and Daily Dead had the chance to check in with Knautz about his newest film project, with the director discussing the collaborative process with co-writer and star Alexis Kendra, the relevancy of this story to things currently happening in society, and more.
Can you talk about working on the initial short with Alexis and then the process of taking it from short form storytelling to a full-on feature film?
Jon Knautz: Alexis and I had already written the feature script for The Cleaning Lady and we wanted to shoot a small part of it to help raise financing, so that’s where the short actually came from.

Director: Trevor Matthews. Writer: Nick Gordon. Cast: Ali Cobrin, Adam Dimarco, Slaine, Alyson Bath and Elysia Rotaru. Girl House is an effective slasher film. From one of the filmmakers of Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer (2007) and The Shrine (2010), Trevor Matthews, Girl House brings a lot of bloody murder to the small screen. Full of dark humour, this indie horror feature also updates the slasher feature, with its use of technology; Girl House is often shot unconventionally. Also, the film's central antagonist uses some of this technology to his own advantage as he violently tries to heal his perceived sexual humiliation. Girl House is an excellent slasher feature, with a fresh look at this genre. The story begins with Loverboy. Played by Slaine, Loverboy experiences sexual humiliation at an early age. Two girls insult his man parts. But, Loverboy gets his revenge on a remote bridge. Fast forward several years, Loverboy has adapted to adult life,...

In the vein of slumber party massacre films boasting scantily-clad coeds and voyeuristic pleasures, Girlhouse exploits the sleazy subgenre by throwing pornography into the mix – because it wasn’t easy enough to get girls topless in horror films already. There’s more to Trevor Matthews’ raunchy thriller than horny webcam girls and strip-lawn-golf, though, as writer Nick Gordon blends the already perverse nature of VH1 reality shows with dangerous internet predators we choose to believe don’t exist. Some websites already give subscribers more access than necessary to sexy performers, but Gordon goes a step further by introducing an emotional undertone that deceivingly creates a bond between male customers and their favorite muse. Obsessed, aroused men falling in love with online strippers – what could go wrong?! (A lot.)

If youre a follower of Knautz and Matthews you could find yourself slightly underwhelmed especially when a few similar ideas have been brought to the screen in just the last few years (look into Sx Tape Open Windows and Lucky Bastard for examples of films that could easily earn comparisons). Having said that GirlHouse does have its moments. And furthermore it isnt exactly like any of the other aforementioned films its just a little closer in content than may be preferred. And hell at the very end of the day we do get some lovely shots of scantily clad if not fully nude beauties like Ali Cobrin Alyson Bath and Nicole Arianna Fox. Hard to bitch about that.
