Not as bad as some of the other student films . . .

. . . but what IS this so-called virtue of finishing a film in 48 hours? I could see the value of this if I stretch my imagination to think of a situation when it was a known fact that a 10-mile wide asteroid was going to hit Earth in 49 hours, scorching the entire planet with 500-degree heat for months to incinerate everything except cockroaches as when the dinosaurs bit the dust, but even then who would be wanting to see a movie some amateurs threw together in 48 hours? If I only had enough audience consideration to devote 48 hours to them, I certainly would not be trumpeting my thoughtlessness from the rooftops. That being said, because LEMON LANE crams the second fewest characters, plot lines, and camera techniques among the five student films it was grouped with at the CMU film festival, I rate it the second best (behind DEATH OF THE WORLD'S LAST ARTIST, which was directed by LEMON LANE's producer, Victor Pytko). Though the final 20 seconds provides LEMON LANE's only twist, even that is much more satisfying than the jumble of visual noise which constituted most of its competition.
