Softcore manipulation
lor_23 April 2023
My review was written in February 1988 after watching the program on Celebrity video cassette.

"Topless Dancing Texas Style" is a departure from the usual t&a party tapes, taking a distanced approach that either will turn off or surprise audiences in the softcore home video market.

Novelty is that the program is presented as a silent show, with music and voice-over narrative added. The party atmosphere of drunken revelers watching beauties strip or fight in a nightclub setting is absent.

Instead we have a show right out of "Mondo Cane", the strange, ritualistic behavior of customers at posh Rick's Cabaret in Houston. Evidently catering to high rollers and supporting an exorbitant overhead, Rick's features dining with "table dancing" added -dozens of beautiful topless dancers who literally dance one-on-one at each customer's table. What makes it all strange is that the girls bump and grind, doing all manner of sex-teasing to the customer (even touching him) while the guy has to sit there and try not to react, his hands firmly resting on his knees.

This parody of decorum, frustration and sexual sublimation is "tasteful" in the rating sense, but as viewed in real-time taping comes off as a dehumanized, alarming view of the American Dream. One almost longs for good, clean, healthy hardcore pornography after viewing this sanitized experience.

A voiced-over cover story, involving a pretty secretary who goes to Rick's out of curiosity and gets turned on to the point where she strips and does a number there on her two bosses from work, is ludicrous and sexist in the extreme.
