This is the pilot episode to the show and it's a good one as it does a good job in both introducing us to who's who but also thrust us from the beginning straight into the action and the world, they all inhabit.

We get a good feel and knowing on our main protagonist Brian. You can easily see this guy is your ordinary guy and underdog which yeah is typical in most sports and hero stories, but I don't mind and they always people easy to emphasize and relate to which is part of why we always route for them. Brian we can see is a skilled gamer but one that is sort of down on his luck as he's an easy target for bullies but also despite his skill he's not like a video athlete star. But the fact he's not a star isn't a bad thing as he's simply a guy that just loves to play games and have fun.

We also get introduced to the antagonist The Law. Instantly you don't like this guy as this guy is just a total dush bag bar none. Despite how highly skilled and popular the guy is, he doesn't play video games for fun, he is doing it mainly to inflate his own ego. And as we see in a segment when he just comes in on a game unannounced, he's just showing off to everyone on the talk show he's in and just another opportunity in ego inflation. He also doesn't play completely fair as he shoots one character from almost out of nowhere, I know that in multiplayer combat anything goes but sucker punching someone doesn't make it a game.

We see that he's in this "Field of Fire" game which is obviously an homage to "Call of Duty", "Battlefield" or any other multiplayer first-person shooter you can think of. Really like how it's handled giving you a good feel of being in the video game world. Like when a person is shot you don't see blood only see broken pixels, let alone the fact these regular people are all in army fatigues which makes sense as their all playing a military based action game One funny moment of course is seeing Brian in pause mode where he is simply just standing in place, and we see him call out to his cat. It's just funny on how strange it looks but also there is truth to it because as much time as we devote to playing video game, we also have to devote time to reality. It's also suspenseful because we see that Brian is also in deep crap as the Law is zeroing in on him. And as we see the Law sets Brian up to die while inflating his own ego as he sets up a form of execution.

We see that Brian's pause mode turned out to be a blessing in disguise as he is exactly in the right place at the right time. And we see Brian just pull of a quick move to get out of his life and death situation and then takes the shot heard around the world. That part just made me smile and I though "Boom B....! And as for the Law all I can say is you had it coming. It's also a moral lesson to show why you should never brag or frak around, if you have any chance of victory take it while you can.

Brian saw and took his chance which lead him to big things all in one place called "Video Game High School".

Rating: 3 and a half stars.
