This documentary was brilliantly presented and brilliantly edited. Having never heard of the photographer Alfred Stein, it opened my eyes to what an art form photography can be. It starts and ends in Dresden Germany and makes its way from Germany and Montmartre to the shores of the United States. The black and white photographs encapsulated the rise of Nazism as seen through the lens of a genius with a Leica in his hands. The compositions vividly capture humans, structures, children, advertisements, and an assortment of human situations. He died too young but his son was able to engage galleries around the world to appreciate his father's genius.
