I'm going to have to disagree wholeheartedly with fellow IMDb user "studioAT" here and say that this prequel was in fact very good. So what if it's almost totally irrelevant to the main story, it's a Christmas Special it's supposed to be fun! Also I think they prequels are intended to hype up an episode rather than explain away anything in particular. It was solid, unrealistic perhaps also but nevermind.

What's the point?

With the pre-credit sequence of 'The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe' making no sense at all I thought this prequel might help fill in the blanks.

It doesn't. What a waste of time.
