Raine-Allen Miller’s feature directorial debut Rye Lane, out now on Hulu, is a firecracker of a film exploring modern-day dating (and heartbreak) mores while providing witty commentary on the borderline-absurd ways in which millennials and zoomers have latched onto social media buzzword culture.

We knew Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album was going to be big. It is literally enormous, 30 tracks long, longer than the likes of Lil Baby’s My Turn and Lil Uzi Vert and Future’s Pluto x Baby Pluto, and just two tracks shorter than Lil Uzi Vert’s sprawling Eternal Atake. When he released “Somebody’s Problem,” “Still Goin Down,” and “Livin’ the Dream” in November, all three hit the Rs 100, and the double LP broke country records for Apple Music Pre-Adds week after week.

Seriously, we couldn’t make this up if we tried. There is a three-year-old electronic music artist that goes by DJ Arch Jnr, and he has literally been booked for an event called Back To The Old Skool.
DJ Arch Jnr became a viral sensation of sorts after being awarded $35,000 for being declared the winner of South Africa’s Got Talent back in November. While many wrote him off as a passing gimmick, he now shows promise as a full-fledged electronic music act – despite being a toddler, he will share the stage with the likes of Black Coffee, Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and David Morales.
While it’s so unlikely that a three-year-old could even count beats that his tracks are undoubtedly synced, the lack of overhead footage from his television debut makes it difficult to determine whether or not he’s doing any actual mixing. Nonetheless, DJ Arch Jnr...

Robert (Darrin Dewitt Henson) is a nice, thoughtful painter, who is regrettably fired from his job by longtime friend and boss Nate (Josh Ventura). The reason for Robert’s firing is initially unclear, though we later learn that it is because Nate has been sleeping with Robert’s girlfriend, Mita (Erica Hubbard). You’d expect this to be an unbearably fraught reveal, but it is more or less handled with playful civility. In fact, not a single conflict in Black Coffee is played above mild annoyance. That should have been the first warning sign that this isn’t a particularly interesting movie.
Robert’s same-day dumping and firing is mended by the comforting words of his cousin Julian (Christian Keyes). Coffee Mate: Harris’s Latest a Heavy-handed, Yet Welcome Reprieve from the Norm
A professed self-taught filmmaker, director Mark Harris’ latest film, Black Coffee, exudes a marked improvement in his mastery of the medium in that there are few technical related distractions in what stands as his fourth feature. With that in mind, the screenplay is another story altogether, peppered with certain elements that seem so out of touch the film might as well be described as science fiction. Paired with what appears to be a lack of understanding toward women (especially concerning its female protagonist, who is shown as unabashedly subservient in every regard, including in an occupation that glaringly supersedes that of her romantic interest’s) and blunt, overarching messages that are delivered with all the finesse of a barbed sledgehammer, one would assume that Harris’ latest is a valiantly woebegone effort. Happily, that’s not really the case,...
