There's something (weird) about Kim
kosmasp2 September 2016
Well her character of course and not Ms. Basinger herself. There's also something very wrong about this movie. It's strange and kind of has a lot of flaws, but it's still mesmerizing and kind of takes the viewer on a journey if he/she embarks and embraces it. A very dark one that touches subject matters that are really mean and can be considered very bad indeed too.

But if you let yourself in (not that the characters seem to have any redeeming values or merits apart from the struggle they apparently and obviously are in), you will have a suspenseful movie to watch and appreciate with a magnificent performance by Kim Basinger and her co-star. The pace might be slow, but the impact can be perceived as strong nevertheless. Tough subject, tough movie

A woman isn't complete without a baby
mancinibrown24 December 2017
The 11th hour is a movie starring Kim Basinger as a female executive in a European shipping company. After a horrible miscarriage (her 8th in 10 years) which almost kills her, her doctor informs her she has to stop trying as it won't happen.

That could be grounds for an interesting drama of what a woman in those situations deals with. However, this movie goes another route, as Basinger's Maria discovers through work a child prostitution ring in a town he company's shipping routes go through. She then decides the most logical thing to do is to try and buy a baby from the prostitutes.

This movie is off the rails entirely. The acting works, but what they are given is complete drivel. There is no thought put into how she'll execute her plan, other than taking some money.

There are also scenes where an unborn baby is talking to Maria. If this happened only after the miscarriage, it would make sense as Maria coming unhinged, however, it happens from the first scene of the move.

The ending, however, is why I gave this one star. I was ready to give it 3 or 4, but the very end of the movie basically says it doesn't matter what happens to this woman, she got a baby and that makes everything ok. It's downright insulting.

Interesting Premise - Terrible Casting
woosterek1006 January 2018
Perhaps casting 60-year-old Kim Basinger in a film about a woman trying to have a baby was not a great idea. Although the film was well done, that one huge implausible detail overshadows everything else.

Total waste of time
kateymaybe-988887 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This was an unimaginably awful movie. The plot was terrible and the dialog stilted as well as often difficult to hear. In fact, it was so bad I wasn't able to finish watching it. Kim Basinger plays Maria, a woman who becomes unhinged after years of unsuccessfully trying to have a child and multiple miscarriages. She decides to go to a town on the German-Czech border and buy a black market baby from a prostitute. For some crazy reason, she decides to enlist a complete stranger -a drug addicted dwarf she picks up on the side of the road- to help her. And instead of buying a baby, he "rents" a baby from a prostitute for an hour, then steals her. Now, all of that is hard enough to buy into, but it just goes down hill from there. Maria has gone to great lengths to get a baby, but has brought no supplies; no car seat, diapers, food, bottles...nothing. She ends up in a hotel with the baby, but there really isn't anywhere in Germany she couldn't have reached with a day's driving, so why wouldn't she have gone home? Now, here is the most implausible part to me...the Russian Mafia, and the baby's mother, come after Maria. The baby's mother is a 14-15 yr old prostitute, in a low class brothel. She has been a prostitute for long enough to have a 3-6 month old baby, so at least since she was 13 or 14. She keeps the baby hidden in a closet, with tape over her mouth to silence any crying. And, Mama prostitute, while reluctant, is willing to rent her infant daughter for an hour to a man she(Mama) believes is going to rape the baby. Which implies she either doesn't care all that much for her child, or indicates an extreme level of desperation. Maybe a little of both. This is not a young woman with resources; if she had any she wouldn't be living as she does. Therefore,I find it hard to believe that anyone in the Mafia would give a damn about her or the baby. In such an organization, Mama prostitute would be pretty much considered disposable, and her baby would have even less value. They might even be glad to have the baby gone - one less thing to distract Mama prostitute from her primary purpose. To track down and capture Maria would take time and money resources that the Mafia would not be likely to waste.

This film is nothing like you would possibly expect from anything you can read here.
somf16 November 2015
That probably includes my review. It is so odd and different and though the basic story is quite easy to describe, the filmmaker's approach to the subject matter is so unique that I found it elevated what is admittedly a flawed film. Bassinger and Jordan Prentice both do an excellent job in their starring roles. I think the original title "I am here" fit the film much better than the title the 11th hour. I think the intent was to market it a little more as a suspense film, and it may be the reason for the lower rating. It is more an art house film that can be criticized by some as being a bit slow, but the director Anders Morganthaler really does some neat stuff with a continuing theme of Bassinger communicating with the soul of her daughter that she miscarries early in the film. That is why I liked the earlier title. I don't think I have given any true spoilers by discussing this issue. It is not a great film, but certainly worth watching if you are in the mood for something far from the norm.

The profound nature of a woman
lua07719 February 2015
The first time I saw Kim Basinger was 7 1/2 Weeks, and I loved it! She had these full lips and a sensual look, it wasn't even necessary to be too good of an actress. In the late decade I saw her again, sad, older, not really too demanding in her choices for roles in movies.

However, seeing her at "I am Here", I think she took a great leap. I think she accepted her maturity, and this role was just right for her, and she gave herself 100%.The rest of the cast is there only to make her shine. The exception is Jordan Prentice who interacted with her performance in many ways.

A woman in a desperate need to have a child in her life. She's successful, rich, married, but still empty. Slowly she becomes obsessed with this idea, after failing for ten years.

I would classify this movie as a thriller/horror, rather than just a drama. She hears a voice and follows it. Is she going mad or her nature is really calling even that it's already too late? The movie is complex and not for everyone, but I really enjoyed the dark tone and a little dark humor towards the end. What's the price to make a dream come true?

Boring

This movie should be a short movie about 30 minutes not more, so it's so boring that we can't wait till the end

a dark, tense and creepy place to go but I'm glad I did
rampantpolanski18 February 2015
This is one seriously messed up movie: If you like films like 'Repulsion', 'La Pianiste' or even 'Black Swan' (which I didn't think all that much of) or just beautiful unhinged women going further off the rails generally, I recommend you give it a look.

It's a European production from Danish director Morgenthaler, and feels miles away from anything made by Hollywood, yet it stars the bewilderingly youthful-looking Kim Basinger, who here is a revelation at her very best, with flawless support from Jordan Prentice and the always reliable Peter Stormare.

'I Am Here' is a dark, still, tense and creepy place to go, but I'm glad I did.

Great thriller
Kim Bassinger is superb in this movie. The movie is everything I expected and more. It's moving, shocking and has a great ending. I don't understand why people tend to give low grades to films like this one. Is it because it's not exactly a horror movie or because Kim has been such a beauty that aging makes her a "no no" actress? I would recommend it to anyone who has had someone close living a problem like this, longing for being a mother and having one disappointment after another. It can make a woman lose her mind, to say the least. I think Kim deserves an Oscar for her performance, which is subdued and conveys all the emotions at the same time.

Great film. Magnificint acting by the two l ad characters..Kim basinger as Maria, and the character of Christian...both missing something in life,,both gatherd by fate and desperation, This thriller drama of European style... has many levels of meanings..not just the course of action on the surface...it has symbolism that's concluded at the very end of the film.... and the message is clear....i enjoyed it a lot...and i wonder why did it receive such a low rate...this film deserves 8 at least for the acting and the message behind it...artistic Well done..recommended

lostmolotov17 January 2020
It's a good dramatic movie with some thriller elements. It makes you feel uncomfortable and afraid about what's going to happen next. Recommended for artsy movie lovers. Great movie!

A very captivating, elegant, and sensitive performance by Kim Basinger
TMC-46 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I thought that Kim Basinger was so gorgeous in the scenes from The 11th Hour / I Am Here where she's preparing to go to work at her shipping company in Hamburg. Her blonde hair was nicely sleek and coifed, her cheeks were rosy pink, and her lips were a richly textured, shade or ruby red. She looked both elegant and chic in her black satin blouse, pearl earrings, and black rimmed glasses.

I also love how Kim interacts with people when she's act work. She has a very calm and soft and breathless manner of speaking that's equally soothing and seductive. She does a great job at being detached and distracted from the world around her.

One thing that I love about Kim as an actress is her sensitivity and emotionally fragility. I always in particular, loved the scene in which Kim unbuttons her white shirt, pulls down her white bra, and pulls out one of her breasts. What follows is a protracted scene focused on Kim's hard nipple as she squeezes milk out. Kim is incredibly sexy and captivating in that scene.

My heart literally skips a beat when she first cradles her breast and then delivers a soft, breathless little gasp the first moment that she squeezes. And then as the camera focuses on her naked breast, we can overhear Kim grunting, smacking her mouth, exhaling, blowing, and snorting. It's a a very sensual, passionate, and intense scene.

And Kim does a terrific job conveying a sense of curiosity, hesitation, surprise, vigor, panic, exhaustion, and finally, embarrassment all in roughly 36 seconds. It's a very beautiful and intimate scene because it displays a woman remaining in touch with her femininity and womanhood.

Especially the shot towards the end, where an anxiety riddled Kim sees her the milk residue on her finger tips. You can also clearly tell that Kim is both physically and mentally drained at the end of the scene.
