London to Brighton (2006)
peeemmpee6 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The film opens with a woman and child, Kelly and Joanne, bursting into a London toilet. Joanne is crying and Kelly has a black eye. Eventually Kelly gets them on a train to Brighton, and it is clear they are running from someone.

Joanne is an eleven-year-old runaway who is procured by a reluctant Kelly into having sex with an old violent mobster with a taste for underage girls. Kelly's pimp, Derek, bullies her into complying, but it all goes horribly wrong, and the old mobster is killed, presumably by one of the girls. The older man's son, Stuart, then forces Derek to find the girls. The film follows the duo's flight from London in the wake of what has happened.

Arriving initially in Brighton, Kelly visits her friend Karen and tries to earn enough money through prostituting herself to help Joanne afford the train to Devon, where the child's grandmother lives. The two are eventually tracked down by her pimp and his associate and taken to meet Stuart at a secluded field. Upon arrival, Kelly's pimp and associate are made to dig two graves, presumably for the girls. However, Stuart decides that the girls are the victims in this episode and decides instead to kill Kelly's pimp and associate. The film ends with Kelly and Joanne arriving at Joanne's grandma's house in Devon. Kelly watches from a distance as the girl and the grandmother hug, then turns away.

Final comment: London to Brighton is a 2006 award-winning British film. Director Balaji K Kumar adopted this movie and presented in his way.

Pros: The way of presentation, screenplay and direction.

Cons: No credits has been given to the original.

Well Made Thriller Film
yashmishra9114 January 2014
As the plot of this Neo Noir Thriller says: 4 Men, 3 Reasons, 2 Women and 1 Day, the narrative, having the backdrop of human trafficking brilliantly blends three reasons in the form of the stories, with some great twists and some high intellect content, having shades of films like Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho", Sujoy Ghosh's "Kahaani" and the recent Malayalam hit "Thira" by Vineeth Srinivasan. The film's pace gets hampered because of the emotional quotient (The same with its Malayalam counterpart "Thira") and the CG work in some scenes is actually not upto the mark. The film scores because of its screenplay by the director Balaji K. Kumar which grips you quite well with a shocking climax, the cinematography by Sivakumar Vijayan which gives you a great noir touch in every frame, the music score by Girishh Gopalakrishnan and the performances by Pooja Umashankar, Vinoth Kishan, John Vijay and Malavika Manikuttan, which are brilliant and worth looking for. Overall, despite rare loopholes, Hollywood returned debut director Balaji's narration succeeds in making you grip, giving you good thrills and chills, making the film coming in the list of films like "Aaranya Kaandam" and "Onaiyum Aatukuttiyum" giving Tamil Cinema a new level. A must watch. My rating would be: 3.5/5.

Vidiyum mun is about a sex worker trying to rescue a child from a prostitution ring that caters to Pedophiles
nilave34 February 2014
Vidiyum mun is a very well executed thriller that keeps the viewers at the edge of their seat till the end. The director has taken a very sensitive subject and made us live through it. The movie was like watching a reality show every second of which is suspenseful making our heart pound through every scene in the movie. The scene when Lankesh questions Devanayagi about Rekha - needs special mention - without doubt will create chills. Very well scripted scene and superb acting. THe director Mr.Balaji Kumar has done an excellent job taking the viewers through the most cruel and painful journey and hence creating an awareness. congratulations!

Brilliant is the word
chauhanheena2 January 2014
amazingly crafted movie. engages the audience from the minute one to the end of the movie giving it an unusual twist to the climax. I'm sure Balaji Kumar(Director) will change the way movies are made in Tamil cinema.he sure proves his mettle with his meticulous detailing in every scene.the Music of the film does not sound like the usual Tamil film song. has a very international touch and sounds more global. the background score is the icing.Beautiful amalgamation of lights, color and sound. the movie retains within you even after walking out of the cinema halls.just one word "Brilliant". one movie you should go watch it in the theaters.

one of the best WOMEN centric films ever made in Tamil Cinema!
rahulchandar19922 January 2014
when films are often made with men as godly character and women as pretty dolls used to attract audience, this film stands out as a role model to budding film makers to experiment with dark matters that are torturing our society. "Vidiyum munn" is one such brave film that addresses the anger of few good men and women on the evil people in the society. The director has brilliantly created the screen play that sustains the audience's interest till the end. A fantastic acting and comeback to Tamil cinema by pooja. The small girl(malavika) has been really good with her expressions. So does vinoth kishan and john vijay who have done justice to their characters. Kudos to the entire team. Every one must watch this fine work!

One of Tamil cinema's finest!
carouna-995326 March 2020
I am a Tamilian, and am generally disappointed at the quality of movies they make here in Kollywood. Having said that, every year one or two movies really catch your attention, make you sit up and take note of a rare movie-making talent. One such movie is Balaji K. Kumar's Vidiyum Munn. The story, screenplay, photography, editing and direction are near fault-less. All the more remarkable given the shoe-string budget in which the movie must have been made. Kudos to Balaji K. Kumar and team!

One movie I can proudly recommend to non-Tamil audiences. Watch it and you will not be disappointed!
