Mega Man V for the Game Boy differentiated itself from other the other Game Boy titles which would rehash the villains and abilities from previous NES games. This one however tried something different: completely new bosses and a new cat ally. Also, I won't give anything away but they play against expectations with the final Wiley level as well.
As for the game-play, it's very solid. Not quite as good as 2 or 3, but by no means weak. I especially liked Pluto's weapon, which allowed you to gain health points from defeating enemies. The game also really pushed what you could do on the Game Boy as it didn't feel that different from playing a Nintendo game.
I recommend this to any Mega Man fan.
