"Rum Runners" tells the story of two young men who earn their money by smuggling booze into the States over the Canadian border during the time of prohibition. Soon, their little flight trips begin to raise attention of both legal forces and other moonshiners who try to sell their alcohol to the same locations, leading into a series of violence and love.
All in all this is a well-written and filmed storyline. However, somehow it doesn't feel quite real. This could be based on the fact that it is hard to create a historic atmosphere with a rather small budget, even though the costumes for example look authentic. It could also be that a more fluent and high-tensioned cut would have done its deal. There are many things that I like about the film, the actors, the story and more but it somehow doesn't turn out to be a great movie.
All in all I would see this as a solid approach that somehow doesn't hit off. I would like to see a better flow and amore athmospheric version of this film.
