The Last Great Capcom/Disney Afternoon Game

Well, I never played Bonkers as I got older and moved on from cartoons, I guess. I still kinda watch them though because I'm old and don't care. Anyway, this is actually one of my favorite games mainly because it's still fun to play even to this day.

The show was pretty good but it doesn't leave an impact like earlier shows like Ducktales or Darkwing Duck, but it was a decent show. It's a cartoon about growing up, I suppose. The game is weird because it deviates a lot from the show. Goofy and his son Max are stranded on an island and has to rescue Pete and his son from pirates.

There are five levels in total and it is a top down perspective like Zelda 3. You go from screen to screen, and a lot of times you can pick up weapons (like Rescue Rangers) and throw it at enemies like those pirates. I love watching them fall into the water myself. Every now and then you have to solve puzzles which involve kicking blocks into a certain spot and having to figure out how to get it there. If you screw up, that's ok, leave the area and come back and it will reset.

You can also get items along the way like a hookshot which will help you create a bridge or just knock enemies down. A bell which is stupid because all it does is lure enemies to you. It's good if you want to get them out of the way but all it does it suck up one of two spots for inventory. There's also a piece of a bridge you can get to cross over or keys which you need to find the boss of the level.

Yes, each of the five stages has a boss and don't worry they are all easy. The first boss is like a whack a mole and is pretty fun. The challenge is rather low for the game and you can probably beat it in one sitting. At least it has good music to keep you going.

Goof Troop is a great game that is often ignored even by Disney since they never included it in their Disney Afternoon collection. It is a good, fun way to kill some time and is even better than some of their previous games like Talespin. Here's hoping for a re-release of this gem.
