Warning: Spoilers
Spirit of The Meadow deals with a terribly shy man who has never ever been with a woman. When a stranger offers his services in order to help him get laid, he finds himself in a situation that goes from lurid to supernatural. The story is close to an episode of "Tales from the Crypt" and I mean this in a good way, for its set-up is both macabre and vulgar with a touching and poignant supernatural encounter towards the end. Playing as both a seedy tale of sexual misadventures and traditional ghost tale, Spirit of the Meadow marries both themes seamlessly. The film takes place in China and this gives the film an otherworldly aura, as if the modern and urban was still connected to the ancient. The film is very well casted and performed, with each actor embodying its character to perfection. The photography is moody, yet it may sometimes be a bit too dark - a little bit more contrast would have been advisable - but this is a minor complaint. The film is well shot and its framing composition is adequate to the story. Above all, this is a very entertaining ghost story with a modern edge.

In the end, Spirit Of the Meadow follows that old staple of ghost stories in which the lesson to be learned is that one should fear the living far more than the dead, a lesson learned too late.
