Just another generic sci-fi B-movie
home-9611 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I quite liked the premise of this film - but that's because it's basically The Terminator with a storm thrown in for good measure. The US has created an artificial intelligence called Echelon which becomes self-aware and turns on its creators. Our only hope is in a clinically inept woman and her robot buddy who are following a series of cryptic clues to stopping Echelon left to her in a VHS tape by her dead father, one of the creators of Echelon. Our bungling heroes are doggedly pursued by evil Echelon robots and psychotic government agents, neither of which are fully explained due to formulaic, lacklustre writing. The murder of the girl's father, Echelon's ability to manipulate the weather, the sudden appearance of the VHS tape at just the right moment and the father's use of cryptic clues to lead his daughter to the 'kill switch' instead of just telling her straight up on the tape could also have used some explanation.

Despite a relatively promising story, the film is let down by a terrible cast of Z-list TV actors and a director with a background in mannequin restoration. Sometimes it's possible to salvage a bad film with good editing, but the editor here had very little to work with and with this being his first film was completely out of his depth.

The CGI is also terrible. I've come to expect bad CGI in low budget films from 10 years ago, but this film is less than two years old. It seems anyone with even a little experience in Cinema 4D and After Effects thinks they can start their own visual effects company and make feature length films. If only it was as easy as that.

This is a prime example of a low budget film where no-one in the production was prepared to give 100% or even lift a finger if they weren't paid extra for it. Everything about this film is cheap and formulaic. If you've seen one SyFy film, you've seen them all and there's certainly nothing about this one that makes it stand out from any of the others.

Don't Expect Any Oscar-Worthy Performances Here
stanrogersmith4 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A real dog of a movie. But I wasn't really expecting anything different. A bunch of X, Y and Z - list actors and actresses fresh from acting school coupled with a few hacks who call themselves writers and directors and toss in Adrian Paul for good measure and you've got yourself a SyFy movie for the ages. This convoluted nonsense is part Terminator, part Day After Tomorrow, and part every other SyFy channel "movie" that you've ever had the misfortune to sit through without slitting your wrists. Where to begin? Something about drones being taken over by some unknown entity and some weird looking bald dude without eyebrows who for some reason has an identical twin, and for extra effect are called Cain and Abel. Then you've got this psycho government agent who simply goes around taking head shots at everyone he can for no reason whatsoever. There's this terminator like guy who has really bad long hair and is in need of lessons on how to use a razor blade properly who is the "good guy" and of course you've got the hot little chick who works at the local newspaper who gets sent a cryptic video cassette that turns her life upside down. The least that the director could have done is give the audience a gratuitous bra and panty shot of her as a way of thanking us for watching this garbage. But alas, that was not to be. So, Yada yada yada, time passes, people fight, people die, then the characters wind up on an oil rig out in the middle of the ocean fighting for their lives and the fate of humanity. I really didn't know what the hell was going on in this movie. If you've got a couple of hours to waste then go ahead and watch it. But I think you'd be better off seeing how many times you could rub one out in the time that this movie runs.

Typically cheesy
Leofwine_draca25 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
STORMAGEDDON is a typical kind of cheesy TV movie packed with lame CGI effects and murky plotting. The narrative is a mixture of disaster staples and some science fiction elements including a riff on TERMINATOR's Skynet. A malign computer program becomes self-aware and begins to manipulate the weather for the worse. The cast includes some genre staples including Adrian Paul, Ricco Ross, and the ever-imposing Joseph Gatt, but they fail to make much headway amid the cliches and cheesy behaviour.

A bit silly
lopezpatricia-0613929 December 2020
This film didn't cut the mustard for me. It was more like a Saturday afternoon stinker you'd get on a free sat channel. Very predictable. Oh and there's no actual storm either.

What storm?
Calicodreamin20 July 2019
I am honestly confused as to what is going on in this movie. The storm plays a very minor role in this movie, especially considering it's titled stormageddon. The main plot has this bad terminator guy chasing around a scientists daughter and the nice terminator while some super program takes control of the government.

I can't even describe how terrible this movie is... low budget, bad CGI, terrible acting. Just stay away.

Typical B movie
rob_roy-49 October 2021
Low budget, cheap effects, cheap actors, cheap dialogs. Watch if you really must and there are no books around.

Exciting budget sci-fi action film
dave-7042111 January 2017
1 thing I've learned to expect from budget straight to DVD\TV\streaming type sci-fi films is to not expect to much. But this film actually exceeded most expectations in most areas.

Can't find any real budget info on this film, but they sure did an excellent job of locations for shooting and set\studio pieces. And clearly they put a lot of effort into this aspect and is shows in the resulting film. Acting is well above average for what seems to be unknown actors and they all look to have done a decent job.

Special effects and CGI were for the best part very good and passable for films with much higher budgets. Nice easy story with only 1 irritating aspect, that being no real explanation (unless I missed it during a break) how Adam managed to go back in time or the technology used.

Apart from that, a very polished and decent film with decent action scenes.

Shockingly fun and refreshing
rainborn13 July 2020
Enjoyed it immensely. Good actors and although the female lead is kind of irritatingly strident, she's pretty realistic. John Hennigan was very good. Never going to qualify for the list of Hollywood Elite Films but I've kind of told that lot to bugger off. Tired of their nonsense. This is a fun movie that you don't have to get your panties in a twist about, what movies used to be. Attractive, charismatic lead and a wonderful twist on the relationship between the two main characters. Good scifi and fun fight scenes!

B-movie extravaganza!
MunkyMovie4 December 2018
This movie echoes The Terminator, 2001, The Da Vinci Code, and a movie from the early 1970s about American and Soviet defense computers joining circuits and taking control of all electronics and pretty much the rest of the world. It seemed to be a Syfy original movie, and they always begin confusingly (without explaining what is going on) -- and this one is no exception. Roger Corman would approve.

This movie should be in the comedy genre!
jessica_g_barton4 August 2022
Don't get me wrong, it was enjoyable but for the wrong reasons. I found myself laughing at the bad acting and special effects. The acting was overall average, storyline was average disaster-movie level. The special effects and fight scenes were funny to watch. If you want a laugh, watch this movie!

Not too shabby
vcameron-4265322 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is a stupid cool movie for passing the time while painting or drawing. I wasn't going to write a review until I finished the movie but let me just say that at 50:59, Molly did just what I said she should do, she picked up Cain's weapon & used it on him! Man, sometimes I think I could write these lines! 🤣🤣🤣.

Now, I'll finish the rest of the movie & decide if I want to write more on this review.

Well, for possibly being a low budgeted movie, this one wasn't that bad. It does show what could happen with technology getting out of control.

I only knew the actor Adrian Paul from the Highlander TV show. He was cheesy then & cheesy now.

Good scifi movie
dhauren14 December 2018
The plot was a little confusing and the backstory didn't help, but the special effects were good, and the acting wasn't bad. One of the better made for tv scifi flicks.

Good Terminator clone
lippylip262 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Many of the critics have panned this show I on the other hand liked it very much Very interesting concept and very akin to T2 in that bathe same actions are repeated in this movie One aspect of the show was how much the heroine in this movie resembled Sarah Connor in the Sarah Connor Chronicles I had to keep double checking to make sure they weren't one and the same Both this movie and the Terminator series havevonevthingbin common abd that is frightning Allowing computers to take over our Day to day lives and the threat that one day the very thing we rely on will turn against us It might be science fiction now but one day????........ Who knows ?????

Not bad for what it is.
planet21725 December 2018
For a non big budget movie, I think it was well enough written, decent acting (minus a few lines) and did ok with sets. Concept good, storyline predictable, but enjoyable.

I thought better than most reviewers here
stuart-wise25 March 2022
I actually thought this was better than what most reviewers have written about this movie. Anyone paying attention over past years is the concern that artificial intelligence may take control over us. Who knows if that is possible but that seems to be at the core of this movie. There were surprises and suspense and creepiness in the form of Joseph Gatt. In some ways, the movie reminded me of Geostorm, which I also liked.
