Amy Adams’ Comedic Horror ‘Nightbitch’ Heads to Searchlight With Marielle Heller to Write and Direct
Searchlight Pictures has acquired from Annapurna the worldwide rights to “Nightbitch,” a neo-horror film and dark comedy that will star Amy Adams and be written and directed by Marielle Heller (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”).
“Nightbitch” is based on the debut novel by Rachel Yoder that was released last year, and the film, which is now in pre-production, aims to begin shooting in Los Angeles this September.
Searchlight in acquiring the film will stream the film as a Hulu Original in the U.S. and on Disney’s Dtc platforms. Additional release plans are to be announced.
“Nightbitch” tells the story of a woman thrown into the stay-at-home routine of raising a toddler in the suburbs, who slowly embraces the feral power deeply rooted in motherhood when she becomes increasingly aware of the bizarre and undeniable signs that she may be turning into a canine.

Broadway performers and stage managers who worked on four shows connected to producer Scott Rudin will be released from nondisclosure agreements under terms of a new settlement between the Broadway League and Actors’ Equity Association.
The NDAs, Equity says, prohibited the union members from speaking about potential workplace abuses.
The four productions mentioned in the agreement are To Kill a Mockingbird, West Side Story, The Iceman Cometh and The Lehman Trilogy. None are currently in production on Broadway, although Mockingbird is expected to return at some point following a Covid hiatus. The Tony-nominated Lehman closed in January, and director Ivo van Hove’s 2020 revival of West Side Story closed with Broadway’s Covid pandemic shutdown; the 2018 production of The Iceman Cometh featured a cast headed by Denzel Washington.)

Mary Badham, Hollywood’s original Scout Finch in the 1962 film of Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, has been cast in the touring stage production of Aaron Sorkin’s adaptation. This time around, Badham, who has acted infrequently in the decades since her indelible performance in the classic movie, will portray Scout’s mean-as-a-snake drug-addicted racist neighbor Mrs. Dubose.
Badham’s surprise casting was announced today by producers, who unveiled the complete cast of the play’s first national tour. The tour, which stars the previously announced Richard Thomas as Atticus Finch, launches March 27 in Buffalo, before moving on to Boston, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Chicago, Cincinnati and other cities.
The Broadway production of Sorkin’s adaptation is currently on hiatus and is scheduled to reopen with Greg Kinnear as Atticus on June 1. Jeff Daniels originated the role when Mockingbird opened in 2018 and returned when the production re-opened (at the Shubert Theatre) following the pandemic shutdown.

Bryan Bertino gained widespread acclaim with his debut feature The Strangers. However, neither of his following films, Mockingbird and The Monster found the same reception. The Dark and the Wicked sees him pulling out all the stops to try and rebuild his reputation. Not having been a huge fan of his previous films, I might not be the right person to ask. But if this film doesn’t put him back on the map I don’t know what will.

Over the course of her legendary career, Alice Lee “Boaty” Boatwright has cast iconic movies, served as a studio exec and repped starry talent including Joan Didion, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Reflecting on it today, she says her career really took off after a pivotal encounter at Sardi’s restaurant more than 60 years ago. Sitting with her friend Sue Mengers, not yet the legendary agent she would become, Boatwright jumped out of her seat and grabbed Alan Pakula, whom she had never met.

Update, with additional union details The Broadway League has confirmed that producer Scott Rudin has resigned from its ranks, a move that could have colossal ramifications on the Broadway landscape now and in the foreseeable future.
Without League membership, Rudin would be something akin to a non-union producer, or more accurately a producer without the across-the-board agreements that the League – which is not a union – negotiates with numerous theatrical unions and guilds. Technically and theoretically, Rudin could, in fact, negotiate his own separate agreements with Actors’ Equity Association, the American Federation of Musicians and more than a dozen other theater unions, but the task would be onerous and is very seldom attempted on Broadway: For years, Disney Theatricals took the non-League route, but had an entire department (and a theater) at its disposal for negotiations and deal-making.
Add to that, both Equity and American Federation of Musicians Local 802, along with SAG-AFTRA,...

With Agent Carter dropped and Marvel's Most Wanted shut down, ABC is looking for "creatively strong" new shows...
It was a dark time for Marvel TV when we heard that the Hayley Atwell-starring Agent Carter wouldn't be returning for a third season, at the exact same time as the news broke that Nick Blood and Adrianne Palicki's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off, Marvel's Most Wanted (which the flagship Marvel TV show went to great lengths to tee up, and ABC shot a pilot for), wouldn't be going ahead.
Today, there's a glimmer of hope for ABC's Marvel output. Those projects are both still dead, but the network is on the lookout for other Marvel Comics-themed projects to develop.
"We all came to an agreement that the next show that we want to do together is something that is as creatively strong as it can be,...

Never say die. This was essentially the message of ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey at the Television Critics Association press tour about the potential return of Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. This comes after the planned spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted, was scrapped, leaving Lance Hunter and Bobbi Morse out in the cold. “The characters were disavowed,” Dungey said. “But I never underestimate Marvel’s ability to bring people back.” Palicki’s return to the superhero show might be slightly challenging. The actress has already signed on to Seth MacFarlane’s untitled space dramedy on Fox as a series regular. So her dance card could be full. While Marvel's Most Wanted didn't make the cut, Dungey indicated that this didn't mark the end of their efforts to pursue superhero projects. She noted that the network is involved in ongoing discussions with the Marvel folks regarding additional shows...

Jason O’Mara will join the cast of Marvel's Agents of Shield for Season 4 while the fate of Adrianne Palicki's Mockingbird is in more doubt than ever. Deadline reports O'Mara "has joined the series as S.H.I.E.L.D’s new Director, playing a character whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s" but no word on who that actually is. You may recall they jumped ahead a bit in time in the Season 3 finale. “Bringing Jason into the mix as the New Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. forces everyone, particularly Coulson, to reevaluate their role in the Agency,” said Executive Producer and Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb. “Jason has both the physical presence and acting dynamics that will connect with and challenge even the most loyal agent.” O’Mara has a history with the network, having starred on their short-lived Americanized...

It appears that Bobbi Morse’s (a.k.a. Mockingbird) days are through on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Deadline is reporting that the actress who plays Morse, one time Wonder Woman Adrianne Palicki, has joined the cast of Seth MacFarlane’s untitled space dramedy. In the show, Palicki plays Kelly, ex-wife of MacFarlane’s character, Ed, the pilot of a spaceship. Fox went straight to series with the program, ordering 13 episodes. Palicki had been a series regular on S.H.I.E.L.D., appearing on 31 total episodes. She and co-star Nick Blood had been targeted for a spin-off series, Marvel's Most Wanted, but that show never made it past the pilot stage before getting the kibosh from ABC. As for the MacFarlane series, that show is looking to kick off in the 2017-18 season.

Outside of Netflix, Marvel's TV division hasn't been having much luck. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. just about manages to get by on ratings which have plummeted since the Joss Whedon helmed premiere back in 2013, while Agent Carter was recently cancelled and upcoming projects like Marvel's Most Wanted and Damage Control have seemingly been shelved indefinitely. As a result, their plans at this year's San Diego Comic-Con are relatively limited, but there's still at least a few things to look forward to. For starters, we're getting the first ever Marvel/Netflix panel in San Diego, the focus of which will be Luke Cage. Moderated by Jeph Loeb, the panel will feature the first ever appearance of the star-studded cast including fan-favorite Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Alfre Woodard, Mahershala Ali, Theo Rossi, Simone Missick, Frank Whaley, and showrunner and Executive Producer, Cheo Hodari Coker. Then, on Friday, we'll have an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel where Jeph Loeb,...

Over the past three months DC/WB has seen a plethora of critics put every decision under a microscope and dissect everything wrong with the Dceu. From the tone of Man of Steel, the appointment of Zach Snyder as the lead of Dceu, the casting of Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot as Batman and Wonder Woman, the interpretation of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, and the decision and style of Doomsday. I am probably missing some more critiques that are out there but you all understand my point that there is plenty that Warner Bros., Zach Snyder, and DC have to fix before Justice League. With all of those issues there is one that DC and Warner Bros. got right and did so before Marvel and that would be the incorporation of strong female leads in the Dceu.

It was a said day, back in May, when Marvel's Agent Carter TV series was cancelled by its network, ABC. Now, a curious detail about that fateful decision has come to light: Marvel wasn't involved at all in making it.
"There were no conversations," Marvel's TV head honcho Jeph Loeb has told Business Insider. "We had a call from the network. The network said they were cancelling the show." That seems a bit harsh, especially considering that ABC was dealing with one of the biggest behemoths of modern entertainment.
Business Insider asked Loeb flat-out if he understands ABC's decision to pull the plug on the Hayley Atwell-starring spy series. His response? "I don't."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has canceled the Marvel television series "Agent Carter" after two seasons. The series chronicled the adventures of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) after the events of "Captain America: The First Avenger." The cast included James D'Arcy, Enver Gjokaj, Shea Whigham, Dominic Cooper, Lyndsy Fonseca and Chad Michael Murray.
The Marvel series received critical praise but failed to draw in a wider audience unlike Marvel and ABC's flagship series "Agents Of Shield." Marvel was also developing a spinoff to "Shield" called "Marvel's Most Wanted" starring Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood reprising their roles as Shield agents Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter, but ABC has decided to pass on the pilot and plans for the series were scrapped.

Palicki and Blood have been recurring on the two most recent seasons of ABC’s “Agents of Shield,” which was renewed for a fourth season. The comic book TV Gods giveth, and they taketh away. Earlier on we found out that Supergirl would be moving to The CW for its second season, and also that Agent Carter had been cancelled, and now it's time for some more bad news. It seems Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Lance's (Nick Blood) emotional farewell on that recent episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. may have been for nothing, as the pair won't be continuing their adventures in the planned Marvel's Most Wanted spinoff we've been hearing about. The show was created and written by S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski, and had Jeph Loeb on board as executive-producer. Does this mean Bobbi and Lance will rejoin Coulson and co. at some point? They are good characters so it'll be s shame if we never see 'em again.

If a new feature from The Hollywood Reporter is to be believed, things are not looking so good for Marvel's Agent Carter and the planned Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff, Marvel's Most Wanted. Amidst talk of a near lock for actress Hayley Atwell's new procedural program Conviction, the trade reports that "the Hayley Atwell drama is considered likely to go to series as the network looks to move away from its well-known soapy fare. (Atwell reportedly would juggle Conviction with Agent Carter, should the Marvel drama return — though that's considered highly unlikely.)" Meanwhile, Marvel's Most Wanted was set to star Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood as their agents Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter. The characters recently left Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the backdoor pilot episode "Parting Shot". According to THR, "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spinoff Marvel's Most Wanted has been cooling and some say it's not considered the lock it once was". Of course,...

Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. seems to be teeing up its potential spin-off, Marvel’s Most Wanted, this week, with a really strong episode…
This review contains spoilers
3.13 Parting Shot
Given that Arrow has already sparked off into The Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow, Vixen and – sort of – Supergirl over on the DC side of the fence, it’s no surprise that the folks behind Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. are also looking for further spin-off options. Last season there were ties to Agent Carter season 1, and this time around seeds are being sewn for Marvel’s Most Wanted, a potential spin-off for Adrianne Palicki’s Bobbi ‘Mockingbird’ Morse and Nick Blood’s Lance Hunter.
The term ‘backdoor pilot’ doesn’t always sound like a huge amount of fun, but the necessity of nudging Bobbi and Hunter away from the main team actually made for a really fun episode here.

From the minute we heard that new life had been breathed into the Marvel's Most Wanted pilot at ABC, we knew our time with potential spin-off stars Bobbi (Adrianne Palicki) and Hunter (Nick Blood) was limited. After some undecidedness and mixed messages, ABC has decided to go ahead after all with "Marvel's Most Wanted," its spin-off of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." which would put the focus on agents Bobbi Morse (Adrianne Palicki) and Nick Blood (Lance Hunter) who were introduced during the show's second season.
