Glimpts from a massive challenge.
NorthernStratego7 October 2022
An extreme attempt at a world record by bicycling from Nordkapp to Capetown in 100 days!

In this documentary Pakravan an Pawley put most of their fokus on reaching their bicykling goal each day, and that makes for a somewhat shallow documentary. The viewer only gets glimts of each country, its population and the problems that come with biking through them.

It would have been great to get some more graphic illustrations about of the quality of the roads, the distance traveled in every country, the major troubles of biking through the different countrys and so on.

One thing that struck me right from their start in Norway was that their planning seemed to be a bit lacking. Such misses in planing made the documentary a bit more thrilling to watch. The question i asked my self was: Will they make it if they have these problems straight away?

So, if your planing on biking a long distance. Then this documentary might show you some of the difficulties and hazards of such a journey, in such case it would be worth a watch. For me it was i nice watch while i was having my daily workout on my rowingmachine. Not great, not bad.

Other reviewers seem to dislike that there is a lot of complaining by the bikers in the documentary, but this kind of documentary about such a massive attempt at biking so long WITHOUT complaining would have been no where near reality. This kind of adventure surely would make everyone attempting a similar challenge complain and question the journey, every single day!

Inspiring

For me it was very inspiring, as I am sometimes doing long rides. I believe the good parts are really well combined with the bad parts of the journey. A lot of lessons taken from here, looking forward to a longer ride by myself.

It also displays a lot of lessons about friendship, as these two guys have different personalities from which a lot of misunderstandings came, they still managed to support each other and succed.

It shows us there is also others ways, apart from just sitting 9 hours in front of a computer doing boring stuff.

I saw a lot of people complaining and doing bad reviews because they focused on performance and achieving the record and not on enjoying the ride, but this is not true, as this was not the scope. But in the end, achieving the record and having a higher purpose gave a higher feeling of appreciation of every place.

Egotrip absolutely not inspiring

They are not interested in travelling just the performance. Zéro respect for people and place crossed. They just want to go fast at all cost. Useless Cityboys mentality.

80 minutes of pure complaning

Never seen a movie where people complain so much, they're on a beautiful adventure but keep seeing the worst in every moment. Why even attempt a record like this if you cannot enjoy the trip.

80 minutes complaining

2 men cross the globe while complaining often. Great adventure but the overall bad vibes make it slightly off-putting. Watch Biking Borders for a similar documentary with actual fun in it.

Why the rush?!

What an amazing trip! And then they rushing through every country unable to enjoy their trip. What a waste and how stupid to chase this record. For such a great trip they should have taken more time to enjoy and interact with the people.

The performance motive overrules everything - what a waste.

How sad is that?

How can someone be just so egocentric, rude und unfriendly?! The guy really missed out what makes the world lovely and was just counting miles. Really sad.

Just a waste of time, there are tons of better documentaries to watch.

I hope to never meet such people in real life.

If you're ever about to plan a trip like this take your time (1yr, 2yrs) and enjoy what every different country has to offer. If you're just about to make the world record please dont film or document this trip. Nobody cares about it really.

Next time I will read reviews before wasting my time with such an egoistic docu.
