Shadow puppet theatre, M. R. James style
Leofwine_draca11 August 2016
COUNT MAGNUS is a 12 minute animated short film adaptation of the M. R. James tale of the same name. It's a simple story, snappily told, about an author who travels to Sweden on a research trip and instead learns of a dark local legend that has very real consequences in the present.

This is a piece of shadow puppet theatre which is told via some vividly colourful backgrounds and silhouetted figures. It benefits immensely from the narration by one Silas Hawkins, who has just the right rich, gravelly, and 'antiquated' voice to make the protagonist believable. The horror aspects of the tale are well handled and mildly disturbing, as they should be.
