Dana interviews Dana in this particularly self-serving (for both) exercise among Sweetheart Video's ongoing series of profiles/ego trips for some of its favorite femme stars. Label's popular storyline videos are so vastly superior to this filler that I don't know why they bother.
The hook is obviously a traditional pandering to fans who want a 100% all the time view of their favorite star in action. The fact that this usually doesn't play well, and certainly lacks the variety of a traditional narrative approach is apparently lost on gluttons. Obviously it's disappointing when a favorite is reduced to mere cameo in a production, but there is such a thing as overexposure.
I had just seen an earlier entry in Dana Vespoli's series for Sweetheart dedicated to Jessie Andrews, and just like that one this tribute to Dana DeArmond has several mentions of "Spiegler Girls", a cheap plug for the talent agent who implicitly packages these junkers. That is a telling example of how this approach is removed from what it takes to produce a worthwhile film.
Dana (the subject, not the director) admits at one point "I'm just quirky!", and that pretty much sums up the content. She's uninhibited and unpredictable, but watching her indulge her impulses is more like eavesdropping than imbibing entertainment. The pernicious effect of a couple decades worth of "Reality Television" permeates this throwaway footage: pro XXX actresses going into their routines together sans character or dialog, just generic porn. The fact that Dana is energetic is irrelevant - she always is, and has at least a hundred interesting acting performances out there to choose from. (I'm not counting hundreds of gonzo junkers that keep the talented performer busy and pay her bills.)
Besides the familiar co-stars, Dana is also paired with Abella Danger, an "instant" superstar who must have been chosen by dear Spiegler rather than either of the Danas. Her lesbian pairing with DDA is routine, generic sex, and the opportunity for Vespoil to indulge her preference for kinkiness with Ms. Kink (DDA) in tow is oddly avoided in favor of the ordinary. (Our star comes close to fisting at one point but obviously holds back so as not to disturb the more middle-of-the-road Sweetheart Video fan-base.)
Probably the best segment is DDA servicing cute Dahlia Sky with a strap-on, and the duo also engaging in footsie action. It's mild by DaArmond standards, but potent enough to keep one awake during the bloated 159-minute running time.
