Few singers were as good at making music videos as Madonna. Madonna’s “Express Yourself” inspired one of her best clips but it has a major error. The video doesn’t totally sync with the music! One of Madonna’s most famous producers explained why this is the case.
The music video for Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’ has nonsensical horns
Shep Pettibone is a dance music artist who is most known for his work on Madonna’s “Vogue,” as well as some of her lesser-known singles such as “Deeper and Deeper,” “This Used to Be My Playground,” and “Erotica.” Before that, he crafted remixes for the Material Girl. During a 2015 interview with Billboard, Pettibone explained how one of his remixes created an incongruity in the “Express Yourself” music video.
“[The ‘Express Yourself’ remix] was a total reproduction and I totally rewrote the music,” he recalled. “And I really started from scratch with ‘Express Yourself.

The Chromatica Ball, Lady Gaga‘s most recent stadium tour, fought against numerous obstacles before it was able to fully bloom in 2022. The run was postponed twice — first when the world shut down during the pandemic in 2020, then again when only certain stops on the international run were prepared for the return of live music in 2021. When the Ball finally commenced, Gaga leaned into her biggest and weirdest musical modes.

"We're going on one helluva journey," Elliott told Deadline. "The original cast is on board, I've got a script that everybody likes, we're still working out deals. ... It's happening."
The original film follows a trio of drag queens who set off from Sydney in an old school bus they nicknamed Priscilla to perform Abba songs and other disco hits across the scorching deserts of Australia. They encounter various groups along the way and charm them with their glamorous frocks.

Exclusive: Stephan Elliott, who directed the celebrated cult classic The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, tells this column that a sequel “is happening” and that the original movie’s stars Terence Stamp, Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving are back “on board” 30 years after the film’s initial release.
“I’m not repeating myself, we’ll start the new film in Australia, but by God, we’re going on one helluva journey,” Elliott reveals.
“The original cast is on board, I’ve got a script that everybody likes, we’re still working out deals. … It’s happening,” he adds with brio.
Since it played a midnight screening in Un Certain Regard at the 1994 Cannes Film Festival, Priscilla has become a byword for glittering, extravagant excess. That was a party night to remember; except I was there and all I can remember is getting back to my hotel at 6 a.

It’s no secret that Lady Gaga took lots and lots of inspiration from Madonna and there is nothing wrong with homage. However, sometimes, homage becomes theft. Gaga once released a track that took a little too much inspiration from one of Madonna’s defining hits. However, Gaga’s producer had no sympathy for fans who saw Gaga as a copycat.
1 of Madonna’s more political songs clearly inspired Lady Gaga
Madonna knew how to get fans on the dancefloor from the beginning of her career. With her album Like a Prayer, the Queen of Pop proved she had style and substance. The album has great pop beats, but it also deals with serious topics like family, trauma, religion, sexuality, and feminism.
The album’s big feminist anthem is “Express Yourself.” It’s a funky dance-pop track with a great vocal melody. That melody found its way into Gaga’s “Born This Way.

Elton John has publicly aired his problems with a number of other celebrities, but he has made his support of Lady Gaga clear. When Madonna, with whom John has feuded for years, spoke poorly of Gaga, he stepped in to defend her. Here’s why he felt he needed to speak in support of the star.
Elton John spoke out against the way another artist treated Lady Gaga
In 2012, Madonna described Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” as “reductive.” This came as a blow to the younger artist, who had long admired Madonna. According to John, Madonna’s comment strengthened his dislike of her.

Several Lady Gaga songs have received comparisons to Madonna hits. Things went a step further when one of Gaga’s producers admitted a Mother Monster track sounded like Madonna’s “Papa Don’t Preach,” saying that this was an accident. Regardless, the producer was still impressed with Gaga’s songwriting.

Mark Ronson is a producer most known for working on the song “Uptown Funk!” with Bruno Mars. During a 2016 interview with Rolling Stone, he recalled seeing Gaga live and wanting to work with her. “I was like, ‘Ok, I think I can see how this could work,” he said. “We’re into the same s***.'”

When did I first experience gender euphoria? My parents are so accepting of me, so that's, for me, truly when I always have the most gender euphoria. Just being around my family. And knowing that that's not an experience that a lot of LGBTQ kids and adults get to experience, that's something that I become more and more grateful for the more people I meet in the community. After Lady Gaga received transphobic comments following her photo shoot with trans TikToker Dylan Mulvaney, the pop star shared a statement on Instagram decrying the negative remarks.
“It’s appalling to me that a post about National [sic] Women’s Day by Dylan Mulvaney and me would be met with such vitriol and hatred,” wrote Gaga. “When I see a newspaper reporting on hatred but calling it ‘backlash’ I feel it is important to clarify that hatred is hatred, and this kind of hatred is violence. ‘Backlash’ would imply that people who love or respect Dylan and me didn’t like something we did. This is not backlash. This is hatred.”
She continued, “But it is not surprising given the immense work that it’s obvious we still have to do as a society to make room for transgender lives to be cherished and upheld by all of us.”

Margot Robbie had some thoughts about Lady Gaga taking over one of her most iconic roles.
The 37-year-old Born This Way pop star is set to bring Harley Quinn to life alongside Joaquin Phoenix in Joker: Folie à Deux later this year. It’s a role that the 33-year-old Barbie actress played in multiple DC movies over the years.
It’s very clear that there’s no bad blood about the casting. Margot has previously shared nothing but excitement about Gaga playing the iconic character.
However, she recently revealed that she had not reached out to Gaga to discuss her approach to the part. Margot shared one reason for the decision as the release date for Joker approaches.

Lady Gaga’s 2008 breakthrough “The Fame” was one of the most successful debut albums in recent history, not only a hot seller, but a critically praised record at that. Its impact could be measured in a million ways, but on its 15th anniversary the album’s Grammy success comes to mind.
SEEGrammys flashback: What happened to these artists After they won Album of the Year?
“The Fame” wasn’t an overnight sensation, it was a slow riser. Debuting at number-17 initially, the album was helped by word-of-mouth and its lead single “Just Dance” being a budding hit (number-27 that week). In December, when the Grammy nominations for 2009 came out, “Just Dance” was nominated in the category now called Best Dance/Electronic Recording, a major feat for Gaga, whose album wouldn’t even be eligible until the next Grammys cycle.

“Born This Way” has long been recognized as an LGBT anthem, but its writer Lady Gaga doubled-down on its empowering message Thursday night (August 31st), specifically dedicating it to her transgender audience.
Mother Monster just kicked off her “Lady Gaga Jazz & Piano” residency in Las Vegas, which includes some jazz standards as well as jazz-ified versions of Gaga hits. Right before she tore into “Born This Way,” she spoke out against recent attacks on trans rights in the US.
“I’ve got something to say about trans rights in this country,” she said as she started the tune. “You got something to say, you gotta speak up right?”
The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, but was quick to quiet down once Gaga began her triumphant piano chords. She let the pointed lyrics of “Born This Way” do most of the talking, but added a few words before wrapping up the song: “You know,...

Yungblud‘s greatest battles are both internal and external on his latest single “Lowlife.” Internally, both literally and figuratively, he can’t get out of the bed, out of the house, or out of his own head. Externally, he can’t get his name out of everyone else’s mouth. Finding himself lower than rock bottom, the British musician settles in there instead of crying to claw his way out.
“I wrote ‘Lowlife’ because I just didn’t want to leave my house. I was sick of people, of games,...

Edinburgh University has said it is “disappointed” after it was forced to cancel the screening of a film that examines the clash between female rights and transgender ideology.
Adult Human Female, an independent feature from Reality Matters, was due to be screened on Wednesday, but Edinburgh University halted the event after trans rights advocates staged a protest outside the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre.
It is the second time the screening has been canceled after Ucu Edinburgh, the university union, derailed a similar event last December because it could be “detrimental to the safety and wellbeing of LGBT staff.”
Jk Rowling was among those who noted Wednesday’s cancelation, retweeting criticism from Kathleen Stock, an academic who resigned as a Sussex University professor in 2021 amid a trans rights row.
“Ucu Edinburgh, helping stop the screening of a film on their own campus. Academic freedom of thought is just of no interest to these people.

“I had this dream when I was really young that I could be whoever I wanted to be and no matter what I visioned for myself that I would do it no matter who didn’t believe in me,” said Lady Gaga in 2011 when receiving the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for “The Fame Monster.” That was one of her biggest nights at the Grammys, but she was just getting started. Watch that acceptance speech above.
Gaga had already won a couple of Grammys in 2010 — Best Electronic/Dance Album for “The Fame” and Best Dance Recording for “Poker Face” — but she did even better in 2011, picking up six nominations and winning three of them. In addition to Best Pop Vocal Album she claimed Best Female Pop Vocal Performance and Best Music Video for “Bad Romance.” That brought her total to five, but as of 2023 she has collected a total...

To date, singer and songwriter Lady Gaga has won 13 Grammys out of 36 nominations. And she achieved a rare feat of being nominated for Album of the Year for three consecutive years: for “The Fame” (2010), “The Fame Monster” (2011) and “Born This Way” (2012). She hasn’t won that top prize yet, though. She has also made a big impact at the MTV Video Music Awards, where “Bad Romance” won seven times in 2010 including Video of the Year; it’s the second most awarded video of all time, behind only Peter Gabriel‘s “Sledgehammer.”
She transitioned to acting too. That’s usually a risky venture for a musician, but it paid off for Gaga. In 2016 she won a Golden Globe for Best TV Movie/Limited Actress for “American Horror Story: Hotel.” But her biggest success was yet to come. When she co-starred in a 2018 remake of the classic musical “A Star is Born,...

Jenna Ortega reluctantly agreed to recreate the dance scene from Tim Burton’s Netflix series Wednesday for her Saturday Night Live promo on Wednesday.
“Honestly, this is really well-written, I just don’t feel like I want to do the Wednesday dance for promo because we’ve seen so much of that already and I think it’s time to do something new,” the actress tells the Please Don’t Destroy crew in the clip. When Fox’s “Monarch” premiered to strong ratings following an NFL game on Sept. 11, there was a big sort-of-maybe cliffhanger: Can the Susan Sarandon character, touted as a series lead, really be as dead as she appeared to be at the end of the pilot? But there were other questions, too. Like: Will this be a series in which the characters are portrayed as having originated a lot of the big hits of country and pop, from “Family Tradition” to “Man! I Feel Like a Woman” to “Born This Way”? Will the middle American audience be completely down with a story that has an out lesbian character vying to become a country superstar? Do parallels with Naomi Judd’s story feel as eerie as we think they do? And did the pilot make all those millions of viewers want to come back when there’s no NFL lead-in?

The prospect of Susan Sarandon leading an “Empire”-style music drama set in the world of country music is an instantly alluring one. Not merely is Sarandon a compelling screen presence (one who FX’s “Feud” proved works well on TV), but the particular contours of her public image as a stalwart leftist activist would seem to rub up intriguingly against her character, a survivor in the culturally conservative world of Nashville.
Bad luck for viewers, then, that Sarandon, largely at a remove from the story for plot reasons, is such a minimally used part of Fox’s new drama “Monarch,” and that the elements that supersede her hold such little interest. Dottie Cantrell Roman and Albie Roman, played by Sarandon and Trace Adkins, are the parents to three children, two of them rival vocalists (Anna Friel and Beth Ditto); Dottie and Albie’s son (Joshua Sasse) must try to...

When the leaves start to turn and the streaming calendar flips over to autumn, it’s helpful to have a guaranteed hit. And that’s exactly what Hulu has on its hands with its list of new releases for September 2022.
While Prime Video unveils The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and HBO Max continues on with House of the Dragon, Hulu is turning to a hit of its own with The Handmaid’s Tale. Season 5 of the dystopian epic premieres Sept. 14. That’s just the start of Hulu’s TV offerings this month though.
While there are no original movies to speak of, Hulu has many shows to accompany June’s story in September. Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon has launched her music career with her debut single “Lock&Key”, which contains a reference to Lady Gaga.
On Wednesday (24 August), the 25-year-old fashion model released the song under the name Lolahol.
Co-produced by Eartheater, the single combines Leon’s gentle vocals with experimental electro beats, to produce a quick-paced club bop.
“No sleep, next plane, no sleep, make-up, next club, next car, next plane, no sleep, no fear,” Leon sings on the track.
The lyrics seem to make a nod toward the “Bad Romance” singer’s response in an old interview to describe her work ethic and lifestyle: “No sleep, bus, club, ‘nother club, ‘nother club, plane, next place, no sleep, no fear.”
Gaga and Madonna share a complex history. In 2011, some of Madonna’s fans accused Gaga of copying her 1989 song “Express Yourself” for the 2011 track “Born This Way”.
Madonna addressed the controversy during a 2012 ABC interview,...

A curious thing is happening online: Out of seemingly nowhere, Lady Gaga’s 2009 VMA performance of “Paparazzi” is a trending sound on TikTok. If you watched it live 13 years ago, it always stuck with you. It was one of the most shocking and sensational star-making performances of any pop artist’s career.
Onstage at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium Thursday night, Gaga performed the song in a palace-like setting. After performing an extended, dramatic piano interlude, she emerged with fake blood covering her white bodysuit, belting the chorus like her life depended on it.

A perfect mixture of soul and pop, Adele’s “21” became a signature album for the 21st century. Along with its massive sales figures and universal acclaim, “21” picked up many awards, and the Grammys were no different. That night Adele entered the Grammys history books and the Grammy darling was officially born.

Exclusive: Award-winning filmmakers Daniel Junge and Sam Pollard are partnering on a documentary about the late Archbishop Carl Bean, the pioneering gay African American singer turned pastor and AIDS activist.
Production is underway on the feature I Was Born This Way, which takes its title from Bean’s 1977 Motown Records gay disco anthem that celebrated LGBTQ identity and later became the inspiration for Lady Gaga’s hit “Born This Way.” Junge, who won an Oscar for the 2012 documentary short Saving Face, and multiple Emmy-winner Pollard (When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts), are working with Bean’s estate to make their film.
The documentary will include “exclusive, in-depth interviews” with Bean filmed before his death in September 2021 at age 77, and will also incorporate “never before seen archival footage and rotoscope animated recreations,” according to a release from the filmmakers.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched “The Masked Singer” Season 6, Episode 5, “Date Night,” which aired October 13 on Fox.

Pointer as Cupcake sang “Finesse” by Bruno Mars. Her previous song was “Heatwave,” by Martha Reeves & the Vandellas.
“I am a hopeless romantic! I have often called myself a Black Liz Taylor,” Pointer, as Cupcake, said in her voiceover. “Because if I fall in love with a guy, I’m all in.
