Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) blamed congressional Republicans for squandering their leverage to tackle the border crisis.
DeSantis stated that House Republicans “surrendered” their power to address the ongoing crisis happening at the U.S.-Mexico border after the chamber had passed a foreign aid package distributed billions of dollars to American allies.
The Florida governor accused the party of handing President Joe Biden the foreign aid funds he requested while gaining nothing in exchange for securing the border.
“They basically just surrendered on the border,” he told reporters. “They now have no leverage to do anything on the border. They had an opportunity to insist that Biden accept the border if he wanted all the foreign aid, and they decided to capitulate.”
“And so he got everything he wants, and Republicans voters did not get anything with respect to stopping this problem at the southern border. Look, we’re...

The Oscar nominees luncheon is always full of good vibes, a definite highlight of the season especially since those in the room have all made it this far — all Oscar nominated and getting to mingle not just with other nominees but also the large number of Academy voters on hand. Considering we are less than two weeks away from final voting beginning, it is also a chance for some to push AMPAS members to check out their films.
“Hopefully if you have seen my movie you will want to vote for it,” said one prominent executive to an Academy member Monday. “And if you aren’t going to see it, vote for it anyway,” they added.

The big bipartisan border reform deal is all but dead, thanks to Maga Republicans obeying Donald Trump’s wishes to kill it. The legislation delivered many of the immigration measures conservatives have long wanted, but the former president and his allies in Congress worry progress on the issue would make Joe Biden look good ahead of the presidential election. Therefore, addressing what Republicans say is the most pressing crisis facing America today is going to have to wait until a later date when the party feels it’s more politically expedient.

Starring Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone , Anil Kapoor
Directed by Siddharth Anand
Hrithik Roshan does a homegrown Tom Cruise in Siddharth Anand’s Pathaan without its jaan, Shah Rukh Khan.
It is a rollercoaster ride for those who are not fans of airborne disasters. You may enjoy Hrithik and Deepika, together for the first and blast time, flying war planes across the LoC. But hell, you know it is not them in the planes. Even if it is they, the stress is more creating a midair Cruise than focussing on the relationships.
Most fatally, Roshan and Padukone seem to have very little us-time together. Most of the time their characters Patty and Mini move in a group with their other airforce chums, doing so many slo-mo shots together it feels like an ad for war wear. Speaking of ads, Deepika tells Roshan at some point in their pointless prattle, “I’ve heard you like Zomato.

“Kingdom of the Blind,” “Little Trouble Girls” and “Wind, Talk To Me” were among the projects which won prizes at the milestone 15th edition of Les Arcs Film Festival‘s Industry Village.
The event, held in a popular French Alps resort, was attended by more than 700 professionals, including top sales agents, distributors and festival programmers, on top of high profile talent, such as two-time Palme d’Or winning Ruben Ostlund (“Triangle of Sadness”) who was the festival’s guest of honor.
The growing popularity of Les Arcs’s industry sidebar underscores “the resilience of the independent European film market and the continued interest in original stories along with feature debuts,” said Jeremy Zelnik, an indie producer (“Kubrick by Kubrick”) who heads the Industry Village and co-founded the festival with Pierre-Emmanuel Fleurantin, Guillaume Calop and Fabienne Silvestre.

The nominees for the 2023 European Film Awards (EFAs) are among the very best movies of the year, in Europe or anywhere. Veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar, who is known for his work in ‘Sholay’, ‘Border’, ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Don’, ‘Lakshya’ and others, has crafted the lyrics for the song ‘Nikle The Kabhi Hum Ghar Se’ from the upcoming Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Dunki’.
The veteran artiste shared that unlike many songs where the melody is created first and the lyricists are asked to write to the tune, he was requested by music composer Pritam to write the lyrics first for the tune that he would compose later in the creative process.
The makers of ‘Dunki’ released ‘Dunki Drop 3’ in the form of ‘Nikle The Kabhi Hum Ghar Se’ crooned beautifully by another veteran Sonu Nigam. The senior lyricist and Sonu have earlier collaborated on ‘Sandese Aate Hain’ from ‘Border’ which had similar elements in its structure of yearning and nostalgia.

Kino Lorber has acquired Agnieszka Holland’s critically acclaimed refugee drama Green Border for North America, the company confirmed Tuesday. Kino Lorber is planning a theatrical release for the Polish feature next year, followed by an all-platform roll-out.
The black-and-white drama follows the plight of refugees stranded in the swampy forest land that makes up the Polish-Belarusian border. The refugees, mostly from North Africa and the Middle East, were lured to the border by propaganda promising easy passage into the European Union but became pawns in a geopolitical game, and were stranded between the two countries, unable to enter the EU and unable to return to Belarus.
Green Border premiered at the Venice Film Festival this year, where it won the jury prize. But the film fell foul of Poland’s far-right, with several figures attacking it for its portrayal of Polish border guards and government officials. Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro...

Plenty of war films made in the Hindi language always cater to the jingoistic narrative. Most of them would include a plot that involves sheer hatred for a certain neighboring nation. Though the enmity between the two nations was at its peak during all the major wars, the filmmakers approached this subject matter by emphasizing nationalistic tropes and refusing to dial down the noise. They also do not focus enough on screenplay, direction, or other technical aspects.
Raazi, Border, Shershaah, Lakshya, and Uri: The Surgical Strike are a handful of films that did justice to war drama as a genre. Pippa belongs to the same category as well. This period war drama directed by Raja Krishna Menon was released straight on Amazon Prime Video on November 10, 2023, and is based on the book The Burning Chaffees: A Soldier’s First-Hand Account of the 1971 War by Brigadier Balram Singh Mehta.

Sweden’s Isabella Eklöf has followed up her acclaimed debut “Holiday” with the Greenland-set “Kalak,” this time around opting for a male protagonist.
“He’s a guy, but the story is exactly the same,” she says.
“It’s still about sexual assault and ‘restaging’ your trauma, or looking for family and connection, but I have never explored that perspective before. Eklöf, who previously co-wrote Ali Abbasi’s “Border,” based the story on an autobiographical novel by Kim Leine, with both of them writing alongside Sissel Dalsgaard Thomsen.
Produced by Maria Møller Kjeldgaard (Manna Film), “Kalak’s” production partners take in Mer Film (Norway), Momento Film and Film i Väst (Sweden), Made (Finland), Dutch...
