One of its kind
Though there are multiple serials about tyrant feudal lords, this one is unique. It opens up the debate about order vs freedom and other social constructs and beliefs. Unlike other serials, this serial show the reasoning behind thinking of a landlord, a commoner and other characters. 10/10 recommended.

An epic tale of a Punjabi feudal lord!

Warning: Spoilers
This drama is an epic timeless tale about land, power, family and revenge. For me there are many similarities between this drama and Hollywood westerns of the 60s, a genre I like very much.

What stands out for me in this series is depiction of the culture of Punjab. Importantly, the value placed on ownership of one's land and the love of one's family. Chaudhry Hashmat, fights until the end to preserve both. Although he is a tyrant and a brute, till the last breath of his life, he tries to reconcile his bickering male heirs (Waris).

Thus he is a man fighting on two fronts, on one hand his son and grandsons, at loggerheads, each fighting to preserve his share of wealth while on the other is the government determined on taking over his lands for construction of a new dam. In the meantime wrongdoings of his past continue to creep up on him, the unseen and invisible enemy, which eventually gets the best of him. Hence Chaudhry Hashmat is a character doomed from the beginning, and although he appears authoritative and in total control, it is only a matter of time before he finally falls.

In some way, this drama is also about progress and change of times with old makes way for new! It is fitting that in the end, all of Chaudhry Hashmat's legacy is erased, as the dam is filled with water, to become part of a forgotten past!
