This is a very raw and real movie that hits you right in the gut. Hard hitting, visceral. As I watched it, I kept thinking of Al Pacino in The Godfather III, when he says, "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!" This movie pulled me in all the way. A tough sensibility and very indie. If you like Hallmark Channel reality, this is probably not for you.

The creators of "Bet on Ben" are clearly Tarantino fans, and for a lower budgeted entry, that's a very good thing. As I watched, I was reminded of many of the compelling crime dramas I've seen in the past, with a number of titles that sprang to mind. If you loved "To Live and Die in L. A.", "Donnie Branco" and other genre favorites, you'll probably dig this one.
