However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't watch CBS classics like Murder, She Wrote, Gunsmoke, Dallas, The Twlight Zone, and more.
When you're not catching up on older CBS classics, here's what we recommend watching for a more modern setting.

Writing duo Michelle and Robert King have had a long winning streak. Back in 2009, the married couple debuted their first show together, the CBS legal drama The Good Wife. Over the course of its consistently excellent 7 seasons, the show was nominated for 43 Emmy Awards and 14 Golden Globes. Rolling Stone called it 'Network TV's Last Great Drama'.
The Good Wife went on to spawn The Good Fight and Elspeth, two spin-offs also written and created by Michelle and Robert King.
But the duo wanted to stretch out beyond the confines of the courtroom, so in 2019 they hit the airwaves with something totally different: a psychological mystery series about Catholicism, faith, the supernatural, and evil.

When Evil Season 4 premieres in May, fans will be hoping for a resolution to a whole host of questions raised at the end of Evil Season 3.
While some will be answered at the outset, more questions will arise to intrigue us throughout the show's run.
As all good things must come to an end, we know that this will be the last outing of this crazy, mind-bending show we've come to love.
Most seasons have contained ten episodes, so it will be a treat to have four bonus episodes, which Robert and Michelle King are touting as a mini-season to finish out the story.
But how will it end? And with the news that Netflix will soon begin airing various seasons, would Evil be well-served by being "saved" by the streamer?

Law & Order: Organized Crime fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief. According to Deadline, the series is finalizing a 10-episode renewal deal... with one significant change.
Instead of airing on NBC, Law & Order: Organized Crime will stream exclusively on Peacock, making it the first primetime series NBC has moved exclusively to its sister service.
This is excellent news for Organized Crime, which may work better as a streaming-only series for several reasons.
The deal is only for ten episodes, but don't be too disappointed. While that might be terrible news for a broadcast show, many streaming-only series have eight to ten episodes per season.
Besides, if fans flock to Peacock and burn through those ten episodes in record numbers, NBC/Peacock could decide to order more episodes. [Note: We don't know yet if all ten episodes will be available at once for binge-watching or whether they will be released on some schedule.]
A new season is better than nothing, so we don't want to look gift horses in the mouth, especially after...

On February 29, CBS began airing Elsbeth, a series about a lawyer who uses her autism spectrum disorder to help catch criminals alongside the New York City Police Department.
What is Elsbeth About?
If you've seen The Good Wife and The Good Fight, you'll recognize Carrie Preston's character, Elsbeth Tascioni. She is a cheerful and spontaneous lawyer who leaves her native Chicago for a solo project. Elsbeth has a form of autism spectrum disorder that does not interfere with her ability to solve complex professional problems.
She comes to New York at the invitation of the local mayor's office to help the police. They are not happy with the intrusive supervision, but quickly turn their anger to compassion – Elsbeth is charming and has amazing powers of observation.
Elsbeth is a procedural where each episode has its own story. If you haven't seen the previous two shows in which Elsbeth appeared,...

Michael J. Fox says the celebrities who became famous during the 1980s were much “tougher” than the ones rising the ranks of stardom now thanks to social media. Fox become of the most popular stars of Hollywood during that decade thanks to the sitcom “Family Ties” and his role as Marty McFly in the “Back to the Future” movies.
“There’s an expression I referred to when they gave me an honorary Academy Award — somebody said to me the day before, they were talking about getting this award and being famous and they said ‘You’re ‘80s famous,’” Fox told People magazine. “I thought, ‘Wow, that’s cool.’ ‘80s famous. Michael J. Fox was a heartthrob back in the ’80s and ’90s thanks to his many memorable roles in the Back To The Future series, Teen Wolf, The Hard Way, Life with Mikey, and more. The actor’s memorable performances and down-to-earth personality earned him a huge fan following.
Hence, many hearts across the world were broken when he revealed his Parkinson’s diagnosis in 1998. However, the actor had been secretly fighting the progressive degenerative disorder for seven years at that point. Despite his disease, the actor appeared in many hit projects throughout the 2000s and 2010s. He was a regular in the CBS drama series The Good Wife which aired from 2010 to 2016.
However, in 2020, the star announced his retirement from onscreen work. The decision came due to Parkinson’s impacting his ability to memorize and remember lines. Now, four years later, he is willing to return to acting under one sole condition.

Michael J. Fox’s retirement from acting might not be permanent. The actor recently told Entertainment Tonight that he’d be open to returning to the profession bearing the right role. The “Back to the Future” and “Family Ties” star stepped back from acting in 2020 as his Parkinson’s disease made it increasingly difficult to remember dialogue.

The first episode of the new CBS series Elsbeth aired back in late February and now the network is finally airing the second episode!
Back-to-back new episodes of the Carrie Preston-led series will air Tonight (April 4) beginning at 9/8c on CBS.
For those who don’t know, Elsbeth follows Carrie‘s beloved recurring character Elsbeth Tascioni from The Good Wife, though the new series is not billed as a spin-off.
“For me, a spinoff means a continuation of the world in some way,” creator Robert King told the Los Angeles Times. “I did think of The Good Fight as being a spinoff of The Good Wife. This feels like a really different show. It’s a different genre, a different tone.”
So, why the long wait?

Columbo wouldn’t know what to make of the technicolored outfits sported by amateur snoop Elsbeth Tascioni (played to quirky perfection by Emmy winner Carrie Preston). Yet the iconic TV detective, immortalized by the late Peter Falk and known for his shabby trench coat, would likely recognize a kindred spirit cut from the same metaphorical cloth. Elsbeth, a delightful spinoff built around a memorably offbeat character first introduced as a foil on Robert and Michelle King‘s The Good Wife and The Good Fight, is in good company. Peacock‘s terrific Poker Face, starring Natasha Lyonne as Charlie, an irreverent drifter with a gift for spotting murderous liars, follows a similar Columbo-like “how-catch-’em” light mystery format. We see the crime and the criminal—typically a well-known actor—before our hero even shows their face. Elsbeth’s madcap wardrobe and sunny sensibility, much like Columbo’s shambling demeanor and Charlie’s scrappy underdog persona,...

This post was originally published in July 2023. We’ve updated it to coincide with “Sex and the City” coming to Netflix April 1.
Seasons change, and so do cities. One thing that doesn’t? Fans’ enduring love for “Sex and the City,” the HBO comedy that premiered in 1998.
Endlessly spoofed but also deeply, earnestly loved by millions (there are honestly very fun location tours in NYC running several times a week) the groundbreaking series wrapped its original six-season, 94-episode run in 2004, with a not-terrible, not-great 2008 feature film and a truly terrible sequel following in 2010. In 2021, spinoff series “And Just Like That” — without Kim Cattrall’s iconic Samantha Jones — premiered on Max (née HBO Max). A second season of “And Just Like That” began airing in June 2023, following the misadventures of a 50-something Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda. Exclusive: CBS’ Elsbeth will count on three additional guest stars for its Season 1 cast: Elizabeth Lail (Five Nights At Freddy’s), Arian Moayed (Succession) and Laura Benanti (The Gilded Age). Following a brief hiatus, the show returns April 4 with two episodes.
Elsbeth follows the titular Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston), an astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD following her successful career in Chicago. The character first appeared in The Good Wife and later in The Good Fight spinoff.
In addition to Preston, Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson round out the series regular cast as Captain Wagner and Kaya Blanke, respectively. Gloria Reuben recurs as Wagner’s wife, Claudia Payne. The Western is a genre that's mostly gone by the wayside in recent decades, as portraits of straight-shooting American heroes and uncomplicated "bad guys" have become less digestible to the public. While popular neo-Westerns (like "Justified" or the works of Taylor Sheridan) and perspective-changing genre breakdowns have made a splash in recent yers, the genre has mostly died out. Of the relics that remain, few are as prolific and familiar as "Bonanza," a Western series that ran for an impressive 14 seasons on NBC in the '60s and '70s.
As a long-running TV series, "Bonanza" was able to chart the change — or stubborn lack thereof — within the genre and the country, frankly addressing topics like racism and bigotry while also delivering regular laughs and a dash of melodrama to loyal viewers. The series starred Lorne Green as widower Ben Cartwright and Dan Blocker, Pernell Roberts, and Michael Landon as Ben's three sons.

Selena Gomez has seen her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars and guest stars get nominated for and win Emmys the past two years while she sat on the sidelines. Will the third time finally be the charm? She’s currently in fifth place in the Best Comedy Actress odds. Given her previous snubs, you’d be justified to doubt her chances, but we’ve been through this before with a twice snubbed actress-singer who pulled through on her third try under very similar circumstances: Mandy Moore.
“This Is Us” was a breakout hit when it premiered in 2016 on NBC. In 2017, it earned 10 Emmy nominations for its freshman installment, including Best Drama Series and seven acting bids — but not for Moore in Best Drama Actress. It won two awards: Best Drama Actor for Sterling K. Brown, who prevailed over his TV dad Milo Ventimiglia, a surprise nominee, and Best Drama Guest Actor for Gerald McRaney,...

Zackary Drucker will direct the upcoming biopic about Andy Warhol superstar Candy Darling starring Hari Nef. John Cameron Mitchell also joins the untitled film about the transgender icon as executive producer.
It was previously announced that Nef (“Barbie”) will star in the movie.
The film traces Darling’s childhood in Long Island through her years alongside underground icons Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis in Warhol’s Factory scene, and her influence on musicians including Lou Reed, the Velvet Underground and Patti Smith. She was immortalized in popular songs including Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” and The Velvet Underground’s “Candy Says.”
Darling also starred in Warhol’s cult film “Women In Revolt” before she died of leukemia in 1974 at age 29.
“I’ve dedicated my life and career to amplifying the history of trans and queer icons, and their impact in shaping art and culture for everyone,” Drucker said in a statement.

CBS audiences first met Carrie Preston’s alter ego Elsbeth Tascioni in a first-season episode of their prestige legal drama “The Good Wife.” The character would go on to appear in almost every season of that series and quickly leapfrogged to its even-better sequel “The Good Fight,” where she dropped in on three of its six years. Clearly a favorite of fans as well as series creators Robert King and Michelle King, Preston’s Elsbeth, a daffy and disorganized but utterly unassuming and brilliant lawyer, now has her own series, which debuted its premiere episode on Feb. 29 — a leap year, how fitting.
Relocated from Chicago to New York City (where all of the “Good” series shoot), Elsbeth now works for the New York Police Department as an observer, making sure the force’s officers follow the letter of the law. The series introduces two new regulars: Wendell Pierce as the...

Elsbeth has premiered on CBS, and we're all in.
The show garnered 4.5 million views and improved its CBS time slot by 45% over last year.
Already fielding favorable comparisons to the classic Columbo and the more modern success Poker Face, Elsbeth combines a winning story formula with good timing to set the show up as an instant hit.
This spin-off of The Good Wife and The Good Fight was an odd choice. The show hinges on Elsbeth's new job observing the NYPD for signs of corruption.
Why would a lawyer from Chicago be called in for this job? What are her credentials?
As she states in the pilot episode, Elsbeth has never actually been to a crime scene -- she's only seen crime scene photos in the courtroom.
So how can someone with no experience in crime scene investigation even spot corruption?
Dropping an unlikely character into a detective procedural was a bold move,...

On Thursday, February 29, the series launch of “Elsbeth,” a spinoff of “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight,” managed to top the combined audience of its timeslot competition on ABC and NBC, Nielsen reports.
Averaging 4.48 million viewers in Live+Same Day, “Elsbeth” won its timeslot, which included ABC’s repeat airing of “Will Trent” and NBC’s airing of an all-new “Law & Order: Organized Crime” (4.48 million for CBS vs. 4.43 million for ABC/NBC), and retained nearly 100% of its “So Help Me Todd” lead-in. The series was also up +45% over the fall premiere week time period occupant and up +38% from the 2022-2023 time period average. It’s estimated that when adding in Nielsen’s Most Current data, including L+7 multiplatform viewing figures, the first episode of “Elsbeth” will grow to 6.1 million viewers.
Outside of the “Elsbeth” premiere, CBS saw its Thursday audience grow week-to-week, with “Young Sheldon” (6.98 million), “Ghosts” (6.05 million...

Though she only appeared in just over a dozen episodes of The Good Wife and The Good Fight, Carrie Preston's Elsbeth Tascioni made a lasting impression.
Now, she's back to impress us again in her own show, Elsbeth on CBS.
Good news! You don't need to know the character from her previous roles to get into Elsbeth. On Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 1, she's in a new city, surrounded by new people, and her backstory is presented right up front.
Behind Elsbeth's quirky charm is a whip-smart lawyer who notices the little details and doesn't take no for an answer.
This pilot episode gives us everything we need to fall for a new show: a compelling murder case, a likable main character, and an intriguing backstory that can carry us through a whole season.
On Elsbeth Season 1 Episode 1, we become reacquainted with Elsbeth and learn how she finds herself in New York City.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Elsbeth series premiere.] How can you not love Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston)? Well, Captain C.W. Wagner (Wendell Pierce) isn’t a big fan, and right now on Elsbeth, that’s just with him thinking her job is to observe the NYPD. Imagine his reaction when he finds out why she’s really there! As is revealed at the end of the series premiere, Elsbeth is in New York to dig into Wagner. Though she thinks the Department of Justice is wrong about him (he’s “been nice to me”), that doesn’t mean he can’t be corrupt, too. She’s no longer a defense attorney, and right now, her job is to go after the truth. “She took the assignment for the same reason we’re moving away from a law show [The Good Wife and The Good Fight] into a police show, that it’s away from...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Elsbeth series premiere.] The newest series from Robert and Michelle King puts a character we’ve gotten just a taste of on The Good Wife and The Good Fight front and center, and at least with the first episode, it does so successfully. Carrie Preston‘s Elsbeth Tascioni is in New York ostensibly to observe the police, but as the ending reveals, she has a much different mission: figure out if Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) is corrupt. Since Wagner’s obviously being kept in the dark about that, while he may want Elsbeth gone simply because of the way she interferes in the NYPD’s case in the premiere, it’s not like he’d like the lawyer who would replace her, he’s told. Wagner wanted a get-along lawyer, but the other person up for ...

Even though she was never a series regular, Carrie Preston became a fan favorite on The Good Wife with her occasionally recurring character, Elsbeth Tascioni. In fact, her appearances on the show earned her a pair of Primetime Emmy nominations as a guest actor, and she won the award in 2013. After The Good Wife signed off, Preston reprised the role on the first Good Wife spinoff series, The Good Fight. Now, Preston’s character is getting her own spinoff series, Elsbeth. Robert and Michelle King’s The Good Wife and The Good Fight spinoff Elsbeth is TV’s latest series about an eccentric non-police investigator using their eccentricities to solve murders, as well as the latest to use a throwback template — we tend to cite Columbo, though Columbo is hardly the only apt reference — to (slightly) freshen up the procedural format.
This is a dual trend I’ve written about and analyzed to death — so to speak — so let’s try something else.
Elsbeth, which transplants Carrie Preston’s delightfully odd and unfailingly effective Elsbeth Tascioni to the Big Apple, represents the Kings in comfort-food mode.

On February 29, 2024, the franchise returns to CBS — albeit with every advertisement noting you can also watch episodes on CBS All Access Paramount+ — as the Carrie Preston-starring drama series extends Robert and Michelle King’s legal procedurals into new territory: Instead of outwitting her fellow attorneys, Elsbeth now polices the police.
Preston stars as Elsbeth Tascioni, a defense attorney first introduced in “The Good Wife” (and brought back for “The Good Fight”) whose ceaselessly chipper demeanor encourages friends and enemies alike to underestimate her at every turn. In the “Elsbeth” pilot, she enters a crime scene wearing a foam Statue of Liberty hat, shamelessly flaunting her image as the bright-eyed tourist in a city of hardened cynics.

In 19 memorable episodes that aired over the course of a dozen years and across two different shows — CBS’ The Good Wife and its streaming spinoff The Good Fight — Carrie Preston played Elsbeth Tascioni, a brilliant lawyer whose eccentric behavior constantly threw off the heroes of those dramas. So naturally, when Preston gets her own series, simply titled Elsbeth, the character is now helping the NYPD solve murders. As one does, right?

We’ve already seen Elsbeth Tascioni bring her quirkiness to two of Robert and Michelle King‘s shows, with Carrie Preston recurring on The Good Wife and its spinoff, The Good Fight, but now, she’s the lead of one of CBS‘ new dramas. But don’t expect to see too much that’s different about who her character is at heart. “She brings her whole self” to Elsbeth, co-creator Michelle King tells TV Insider of the character. Just because she’s in a new city—moving to New York—and not just popping in and out as needed doesn’t mean there are any plans to change who she is; after all, the fun is exploring just that in a different way on the show premiering on February 29. Elsbeth follows the titular astute but unconventional attorney who utilizes her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.

The Traitors- Pictured: Alan Cumming — (Photo by: Peacock) The Traitors has emerged as one of the hottest reality shows on television, especially in the streaming realm. As the name implies, the elaborate game show includes a group of duplicitous competitors who try to eliminate the “faithful” players and claim the prize money for themselves. Fittingly, the host of the show is Alan Cumming, who played the duplicitous political operative Eli Gold on The Good Wife and The Good Fight. As the show’s host, he needs to be able to keep the identities of the traitors secret — something he admits is not an easy thing for him to do.
