In The Dark surprised me when the previous story was wrapped up in just two episodes. This was a new story and set some time after the events of the last one. We can tell as Helen's baby bump has got bigger. There is no mention of the historic child abuse complaint she made though.
The only link to the previous episode was that both Helen and Paul reconcile after Paul became rather miffed to find out that the baby may not be his.
However Paul becomes a fatal victim of a gangland initiation when a bunch of youths shoot and rob passing motorists.
An upset Helen takes it upon herself to find out what Paul was doing on his own in an area of Manchester. She visits a survivor of an attack and a dubious gay underworld character called Linnell.
Nothing really original here, the tenseness of the previous episode was missing. Myanna Buring is pretty intense but she is let down by a flat story here.
