The Blood Window Showcase will scare Cannes once again. This time, with six new features, currently in progress.
During an exclusive screening on May 19, in Palais K, industry guests will get to see “The Tree House,” “1978,” “Fifteen,” “Eyes of the Abyss,” “Parvulos” and “Remanence: A Voltage Cosmic Tale.”
“One of the highlights this year is the quality of projects and their diversity,” said the head of the program Javier. C. Fernández.
“We have a coming-of-age story among zombie apocalypse in ‘Parvulos,’ a vengeful quinceañera with plenty of gore and dark humor in ‘Fifteen’ or even a horror tale set on a ship during the Falklands War in 1982 [‘Eyes of the Abyss’]. This is different from previous editions, focusing more on stories about exorcisms and urban legends. Now, there are offerings for every taste.”

Following his 2017 film, What The Waters Left Behind, director Nicolás Onetti crafts a further tale of the cannibalistic family living within the flooded town of Epecuén. The focus is on an Anglo-American rock band on the last stop of their unlucky tour, where the members’ frustrations are spilling out into explosive arguments. Approaching them after the performance is the mysterious Carla (Magui Bravi), whose offer of a place to stay leads the band into a hellish scenario.
Adapting Camilo Zaffora’s screenplay, the influences of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Hostel are felt in this tale of a rock band thrust into an unimaginable nightmare. It’s a shame the focus is on such a tiresome group whose...

Cleopatra Entertainment has announced that they will be giving director Nicolás Onetti’s horror film What the Waters Left Behind: Scars a VOD, Blu-ray, and DVD release in North America on July 18th! This film is a sequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre-esque horror film What the Waters Left Behind, which Nicolás Onetti and his brother Luciano made in the devastated city of Epecuén in Argentina a few years ago.
As the synopsis for What the Waters Left Behind explained, “Epecuén was one of the most important touristic villages of Argentina. Thousands of people concurred, attracted by the healing properties of its thermal waters. On November 10th, 1985, a huge volume of water broke the protecting embankment and the village was submerged under ten meters of salt water. Epecuén disappeared. Thirty years later, the waters receded and the ruins of Epecuén emerged, exposing a bleak and deserted landscape. The residents never returned.

Shooting of The Last Boy on Earth, a new sci-fi film from Argentine director Nic Onetti, wrapped up recently. A small gallery of photos have been sent along with the announcement, with a little too rugged looking Onetti, the crew and his young star Camilo Levigne. Levigne is already a member of the Onetti film family, with appearances in his giallo film Abrakadabra and the antholgy A Night of Horror: Nightmare Radio. If the setting of the location on the last day of shooting looks familiar you just have to go back to Onetti's last film, What the Waters Left Behind. Onetti went back to the desolate ruins of Villa Epecuén, the tourist village in the Buenos Aires province that was flooded with ten...

What the Waters Left Behind is a slasher film from Argentina. Shot in Epecuen, this location was once a town that was flooded and left the inhabitants homeless. In 2018, brothers Luciano and Nicolas Onetti filmed their general remake of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre here. One of the best slashers of the last few years, What the Waters Left Behind centrally stars: Agustín Pardella, Damián Dreizik, Victoria Maurette and a few others. Now, Unearthed Films will release this compelling feature, this Spring. In the story, a group of filmmakers document the remaining shambles of Epecuen. Here, the floodwaters have receded, showing the remains of old shops and apartments. However, one family remains on the premises, patrolling the area for food. Unfortunately for these documentarians, this family has targeted them for a human buffet! Unearthed Films will show the film in May. On May 12th, What the Waters Left Behind...

South America is probably not the first place you’d think about when it comes to genre cinema, but over the years, a host of emerging talent has managed to put us on the map. Brazil’s Rodrigo Aragao (The Black Forest), and Argentina’s Onetti Brothers (What The Waters Left Behind), are but a few of the names that are following in a long and proud tradition which includes a figure as iconic as Brazil’s José Mojica Marins, Aka Coffin Joe. However, one of this continent’s most notable names also happens to be one of its best kept secrets: Colombia’s Jairo Pinilla Téllez. A cornerstone of Colombian genre cinema, Jairo Pinilla should be a bigger name than he is; La Venganza de Jairo (“Jairo’s Revenge”), a documentary...

*full disclosure: this reviewer has promoted this film through online marketing, previously. Directors/writers: Luciano Onetti, Nicolás Onetti. Cast: German Baudino, Paula Brasca, Mirta Busnelli, Victorio D'Alessandro and Victoria Maurette. What the Waters Left Behind is a slasher film, from the Onetti brothers. Known as Los Olvidados (The Forgotten) in Argentina, this title lifts the story of Tobe Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) for a South American audience. Though, horror fans in North America will be able to see What the Waters Left Behind, on Amazon Prime, this month (Oct. 26th). This release is full of horror tropes. From a freaky gas station to a cannibal family, you have likely seen this film before. Still, the Onetti brothers have chosen a few interesting locations, including an entire destroyed city. And, the filmmakers admit that they have been influenced by American cinema, including Hooper's earlier effort. What the Waters Left Behind is.
