Here we have "The 22nd Annual Critics' Choice Awards" and there is nothing more to say about what the event was about as the title describes it perfectly. The critics cast their ballots to vote on the best films/performances and creative efforts (songwriting, music, art direction...) of the year. The winners are certainly an indicator for upcoming awards shows like the Oscars or the Golden Globes. The host was actor T.J. Miller who returned after hosting the 21st edition of the event as well. I personally did not find him funny or enjoy his hosting very much apart from one or two occasions. He was a nominee himself and he used that joke that he lost his category for way too long and at some point it just became a bit repetitive. In terms of the events itself, I really did not like that they did not show pretty interesting categories like the music categories for example, but showed stuff like Best Young Performer. It is certainly a matter of preference, but I always find it a bit unfair, especially for the losers of which we only see the name for 2 seconds or so on the screen and the winners of course aren't allowed to give a speech. And still, despite omitting so many categories, the show went on for a massive almost 2.5 hours. In my opinion, this is at least 30 minutes too long. Films may need focus to become quality work, but with this one here now we also know award shows do as well. In terms of the winners, I have not yet seen many of the victors, mostly because the films aren't released here yet. Portman's victory over Stone for Best Actress makes me wonder if she can actually win a second Academy Award this season. Another thing I did not like was how this entire show slowly turned into a Ryan Reynolds showcase and I cannot say I like him a lot as an actor. So yeah, apart from the usual curiosity about who wins their categories, I was not impressed here at all and I must say the negative was more frequent than the positive. Not even an award show lover like myself found great enjoyment in here as the execution felt very shoddy at times, from a subjective as well as objective standpoint. Watch something else instead.
