Effective South Korean rom com

MANGO TREE is a South Korean romantic comedy exploring the love lives of young women in the 21st century. Now, I tend to despise romantic comedies and avoid them whenever I can, but my hatred is mostly focused on American productions. Foreign films - particularly Asian ones - tend to be more witty and funny than their American equivalents, and MANGO TREE is no exception.

This is undoubtedly a well-made film with solid production values and a nicely international feel; much of the plot concerns the adventures of a couple of female friends as they jet off to the Philippines and discover romance abroad. The acting is of a generally strong standard - you wouldn't expect anything less from a Korean film - and there are some surprisingly adult touches, with Han Soo-A showing little hesitation in stripping off when the role requires. It's still not my cup of tea, but as rom coms go MANGO TREE isn't too shabby.
