Here we have the 3-minute music video for the song "John Wayne" by Lady Gaga. This came out in early 2017, so it is over 1.5 years old and if you remember a long time ago already Taylor Swift released her tribute to Tim McGraw and now Gaga does the same with John Wayne telling us how men named John have a special place in her life. Director of this pretty short music video is the legendary Jonas Åkerlund. Overall, I would say that this is neither among Gaga's best or worst, but ultimately pretty forgettable. It is somewhat catchy at times, the video does not look too bad, but as so many other times with gaga it feels like style over substance. She is in talks right now for her performance in the newest version of the Judy Garland classic "A Star is Born", but while she shines through subtlety and modesty in that film that could very well get her her first acting Oscar nomination, this one here is the opposite and not a positive achievement. The perhaps biggest problem for me was that I rarely believed Gaga's dedication to john Wayne the way it is depicted here. Looks more like a cheap attempt to cash in with a legend to make more popular and seem more sophisticated. It's make-believe and I am a bit glad Wayne himself did not get to hear this shoddy "tribute". Don't watch. Don't listen to. Thumbs down.
