A somewhat waste of my time!
annjulia3 August 2018
This movie was made for the insomnia. If you start this movie, you will be asleep within 7 minutes. The first 5 mins, all you see as they roll credits is Anikka walking and smoking a cigarette. There is barely any dialogue at first. Eventually it does get a little less dull when she meets a stranger. You can show if a person has a dull life without boring the viewers.

Zzzzzz!
kolleen_adelphia15 March 2019
I understand all too well that they are trying to portray an almost "lifeless" North Eastern town. But, this...... "slow starting" would be putting it mildly! At least there would be a start!!!!! I could only tolerate a third of it, and I had to turn it off. It was down right depressing just how "slow moving" this movie is! If you're in the mood for a nap, this is the movie for you. Cheers! X

Awful movie, but filmed in Cloquet MN
kimgrealtor26 May 2019
It is an awful movie. The acting is terrible and the story is nonexistent. The only reason I watched on was because I lived in Cloquet for 10 years and it was cool to see the locations in Cloquet, Duluth (where I lived for 12 years, and just moved away from), and Superior. The movie isn't worth the time otherwise.

A Movie With No Story
JSplend95415 June 2020
This is the first time I have written a review without watching the whole movie. I only made it through half of the movie. There was no reason for me to continue and find out what happens because nothing happened in the first half to draw my interest. I think it was supposed to be a romantic movie - after watching the first half , I honestly don't know how I would classify it. Most people will turn this movie off during the first five minutes - during that time the only thing you see is credits on the screen , a steady snow and a dreary building. There was no story to this movie. You had no idea who the characters were , there background or what they were planning to do. I cannot believe some people rated this movie a nine or ten. My question - What movie we're you watching ?

Sinnemoto Winter flick
Wolfylildoggy19 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Chick smoking what must be the worlds longest cigarette while credits roll, just so we don't miss out on who made this cigarette commercial possible. It does show her smoking in front of a laundromat, too not just a bar. Lots of super action packed scenes inside the laundromat as our heroine homewrecker gives life saving suggestions to a stranger on what to purchase out of the vending machine, despite the fact he isn't doing any laundry, not creepy in the least.

Fast forward about three hours (it isn't but truly feels like forever) same man is drinking coffee when the waitress asks if hes staying there. She then inexplicably enters his personal space and digs through his items in front of him, although we never know exactly why or how its relevant to a non existing story. Gotta love these "your guess is as good as mine" films. Ahh, but its Minnesota, and us Minnesotans love to brag up our state, even if its boorish. I laughed out loud at the movie synopsis calling an affair a "sexual affair", maybe because part of me is still 12 or maybe affair is usually sexual and it goes without saying, so it seems unnecessary to specify it. Enjoy the melatonin fest.

Perfectly encapsulates winter in all aspects
kelzyshea8 February 2019
In reading other reviews yes, some scenes were a bit drawn out however filmmakers are constantly learning and evolving keep your eye out for more from Alexander. He understands the human condition maybe from a darker point but understands it. If you can calm yourself long enough to sit and watch it's very thought-provoking. The entire film has a constant theme From the way it was shot from where it was shot from how it was acted edited and composed. "in winter" I thought that was very well done!

In Winter is beautiful, haunting film
christok444411 January 2019
In Winter, as with all great films, teaches you how to watch it. It has it's own pace. It breaks scenes off unexpectedly. It jumps locations and characters unexpectedly. By the end of the movie, it feels right. You have been brought into it's world. Great exploration of character, sexuality, disconnection. Watch it if you love film!

Haunting, beautiful film
samanthalorene22 September 2019
This film is beautifully shot and shows the desolation of winter on the great lakes. Yes, scenes are drawn out, but it feels very deliberate. I think that one of the things that makes this film so powerful is that it is like a glimpse into the protagonist's life, rather than knowing everything about her (like her thoughts and reasoning). Overall, this film is a raw, visceral interpretation of the human experiences of isolation, connection, and sexuality.

Watch this under the covers
max_e_lemberger21 September 2020
While a "love" story, this isn't a fluffy snowbound weekend meeting In a charming New England village. The back drop is cold winter in Northern Minnesota, the cold that chills to the bone and is symbolic of the frozen souls of the protagonists. Film lovers will see strong influences of Ingmar Bergman in this beautifully shot , superbly acted, haunting story.
