It's alright for children
Gordon-1130 November 2017
This is a sort animation film, which tells the story of a dog who finds a tasty bone on the street. However, the bone has a mind of its own, and has a merry confrontation with the dog.

In just two minutes, the film details how the dog finds the bone, and then gets bullied by the bone. It is entertaining and fun, albeit predictable. The jokes get repetitive, and there are only a certain number of times that I can watch a stall get messed up, or someone falling. It will be entertaining for children, nonetheless, especially because it is so short that children can concentrate on it easily.

Dante's Lunch review

Warning: Spoilers
Dante's is a short Pixar movie. It is series of Coco. One day, stray dog is looking something to bite. When he gets out trash box, he finds a shining bone. He wants to bite it, surprisingly, it moves itself. He is chasing it.

This movie is based on Mexican culture and music. Also, I think main scene is the day of the death. Sounds are composed of Mexican music. For example, guitar violin, trumpet and Guitarron. Each musical instrument has a role. When he felt sad, happy and cheerful. One instrument become a main sound.

The main character is a dog. This film focuses on the dog's point of view. But we are human. It means that we can't see his point of view. Through this film, we will feel the dog's point of view. Also, the dog can't speak, so eye movement is a key to understand his feeling. For example, when his eyes pop out, he may feel surprised or shocked.

So I recommend you to see this film. Ordinary, movie's sounds are a lot of sound, but it doesn't have consistency. That's way, if you have knowledge of Mexican music or instrument, you do watch this film.

He's a good boy

This short was created early in the animation process by Lee Unkrich and his team to have a better sense of the character.

I appreciate Pixar for not wasting a single footage by turning them into incredible shorts...

Ordinary Feature
Hitchcoc2 May 2019
The plot is quite simple. A dog, Dante, is foraging through trash cans, obviously hungry, when he spies a long bone. Jubilant, he plans to eat the whole thing. But the bone is having none of it. He chases after the bone, causing damage wherever he goes. But there is a big surprise at the conclusion. It is mostly sight humor with a lot of action.

A dog and his bone

Warning: Spoilers
"Dante's Lunch: A Short Tail" is a really short animated movie from 2017. It runs for under 2 minutes and is basically an additional appetizer for the new Pixar movie Coco that will come out later this year. Normally they do the short films after the feature and include them as DVD/BluRay addition, which could very well happen to this one too, but here they give us an early taste of the canine protagonist from Coco. Sadly, I found it really underwhelming. The plot is basically that the bone has no business getting caught by Dante, the dog in here. Now I am a bit confused as I see the dog's name is called Hector. Oh well, I am sure things will get clearer at the latest when Coco is released. Anyway, the title of my review could actually also be "A bone and his dog" as the bone is extremely resilient and resistant. A wild chase sequence ensues that is not really creative or funny though, but just very fast and wild like I already said. The plot twist with the bone's owner at the very end was maybe the best thing about this little movie and also shows that Coco is probably not set in a world like the one we live in. And it makes really a nice parallel as to some extent the bone is a metaphor for a dog as well, a lost dog running to find his owner. At least that's what came to my mind. As the first 90 seconds were really forgettable though compared to the very end I give this one a thumbs-down. What we see in here is nothing other than what Disney and MGM and Warner Bros did 75-80 years ago already in cartoons and certainly not worse. I truly hope Pixar steps things up a lot for the full feature film.
