I have not yet finished the series, but as far as goes..it goes. I like the very fact that you can listen to it as if it's a podcast, but, of course, visuals are additional sensors and are recommended.
It is very unique, slow paced. Kind of loose ends all over. But it is very atmospheric. Amazing for rainy day, or night, or any night, really.
Enjoy it, don't rush it.

Magnificent

There are so many wonderful references in this, Lovecraft, Poe and King. no disrespect to the animator, great job of building tension, but couldn't this benefit from a Love, Death + Robots approach whereby a different animator tackles each topic. Very good, a must for Tales of the Crypt and Twilight Zone fans with its cautionary tales.
Dark forces are at work in Kirlian...

The Kirlian Frequency is an atmospheric detour into bizarre mini-episodes, centred around a collected and disquieting radio host and the goings on in the lurid nightscape of Kirlian.
Each episode makes effective use of its short time, transfixing you with its beautifully realised art animation - a palette of reds, blacks and purples - and its retro score. The aesthetic is pleasing and the narrative content intriguing, and while each episode comes to a close too soon to make complete sense of what you're witnessing, it's never less than hypnotic and bolstered by suggestion.
A great little series with visual appeal and potential for expansion within its dark setting, narrated to perfection by the mysterious protagonist who is unperturbed with Kirlian's occurrences of contemporary vandalism and otherworldly undercurrents. The narration feels influenced by The Twilight Zone as he bookends each chapter with insight and mysteriousness. Dark forces are at work in Kirlian, and it's a brief experience that mostly succeeds, deserving your full attention.

Turn up the radio, and end the white noise

If you ever got Welcome to Night Vale vibes by reading the synopses. You better know that yes, that this is an experience quite similar experience. But only at first glance. The isolated city, the weird problems that are just glanced over while they happened out there, the smooth voice broadcaster of the late-night radio show. All seems very familiar.
The disconnect stories could only be this if this is what you are looking for: Fast, but effective horror and suspense shorts. So, you can watch in whatever order you prefer. But if you want to experience like a full story, watch all in order.
The animation focuses heavy in shadows, contrast and dark colors. You can never see the faces of anyone, which add to the spooky environment, (If you don't care about the overarching plot), You sure like the animation. Scaring you, even if that nothing moving on the screen, feeling like a shadow puppet show. This is a very effective art style for a show like this.
The city is they own character. The city of Kirlian don't want you snooping around in there. So, you might proceed with caution. Never truly knowing the details and the intricacies of the city, only being fed some glimpses in the middle of the stories. We never have sure how aware of the craziness that surround the city the citizens are. Sometimes they talk like they know all, sometimes they fell like they are too scary to describe what they witness.
Nothing is perfect. Some common complain are that the overarching story are sometimes feels left on the background too much. And some stories might not be that interesting. But in my eyes those choices are on propose, since we never experiencing the same fact in the city of Kirlian with the same person. We know has much has we can know about the city.
If have seen the fist episode and started to ask questions, get attached to random details and create crazy conspiracies theories you might find your foot in this series wile we all wait for the next season episodes.
You may like this show witch the answers are has vague has the identity and intentions of the city radio broadcaster. You might like that the city has a very uneasy and disturbing aura, and foreign people are not allowed. Never. And if you think you have a clue of what is happening the city... You sure don't.
But nothing is important when you live forever in a April day.
Lovecraft legacy.

Welcome to the town of Kirlian

Interesting anthology that has a lot of passion and creativity put behind it although you can tell it is in early stages of working out kinks and different problems for example how when some scenes involve dialogue but suddenly turn to subtitles which was jarring although this becomes less and less used throughout the show as it goes along. I quite like the atmosphere and story, reminds me of a combination of Welcome to Night Vale and something like Gravity Falls which I enjoy. The show isn't perfect and there aren't many episodes but it's a interesting horror show with cool but basic animation that I'm looking forward to see develop over time. Check it out, it's worth your time, it isn't that long either.
Reminds me of Welcome to Night Vale

Excellent horror short anthology series

I watched this with an English dub on Netflix, the interesting animation style where you largely see just silohouettes of characters means there's nothing off in the application of the dub as you sometimes get.
5 episodes isn't nearly enough and they're all just 7 - 10 minutes long, but my do the individual episodes and the whole series leave an impression. Clearly written by those well versed in horror, the focus is primarily on creating an atmosphere of unease and uncertainty. There's certainly a strong Lovecraftian vibe and this is realised more explicitly in a couple of the eps than others.
Don't really want to say anything else for fear of spoiling a single detail. I eagerly await more and would urge anyone to watch.

3 stars for effort

Interesting approach with dialogue and subtitles going in different directions.
The animation is real bad, which I could put up with if the story was interesting
But the script is kind of confusing. I watched two episodes and found each one to be lacking in completeness / explanation

I Almost Want to Dock a Point

Because there are only 6 nine minute episodes. The stories are short but atmospheric. The animation is minimalist but this is not a detriment to the story. With the exception of the "off air" scenes, when the stories are told only through subtitles, much of this could just be audio and still be effective. Which is really a good move considering all the stories revolve around a late night radio show DJ taking calls or doing interviews.
Amazing

This show is simple, but amazing. The storytelling is eerie and compelling. The animation is unique and fits with the context of everything. The soundtrack makes the stranger things soundtrack seem like crap! I'm more impressed by the 5 episodes (the only ones on Netflix at the moment) than almost any other show I've seen. Please come out with more!
Not watchable due to partial English dub
patricktunney-1351318 May 2020
Halfway through the first episode they ran out of money for the English over dub and resort to silent dialog with subtitles. Fail. Totally kills the vibe which is the only thing it's got going for it because there doesn't seem to be much of an original story line.
