Not the UK F Word
ambrose1 June 2017
As a fan of the F Word as presented on UK television, I was hoping for the best. This was a big disappointment. Fox (and their associates) has changed the premise to make it impossible to care about who wins. The celebrity interviews stink. Gordon's segments on cooking are brief and odd. At least in the UK version we got some of his culinary knowledge. This was a big disappointment but it was not completely unexpected, based on what Fox has done to Gordon's prior series.

Maybe it will improve, but I don't think so. Once established, the formula is just repeated over and over.

The Gordon blew this one - Shut It Down!
foothill_warrior31 May 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Really had trouble getting through the first episode as it does not have a single cohesive idea thread running though it - it jumps all over the place. It is supposedly a (F)amily team cooking competition, but that was lost in the noise of: boring useless celebrity interviews, little side skits (i.e. punking his ex colleague), cooking tips from Gordon (the only part I liked) - plus the usual scolding of the team members cooking in the kitchen. There is no tension built out of the actual team competition like in GR's other shows. I can't believe this show will last long.

A total and complete disaster.

OK first of all, I am a huge Gordon Ramsay fan, but I absolutely hate what Fox has done to him. Kitchen Nightmares, Hotel Hell, Hell's Kitchen all ridiculous pablum for a zombified US audience, and The F Word may be the worst of them all.

If you've seen the original Channel 4 series from the UK please look away now and don't hazard a single moment of this watered down Gordon Goes to Hollywood version of the F Word, you will despise this series. Totally scripted, none of Gordon's natural charm and personality shows through, and worst of all....its BORING! But thats exactly what we've come to expect from Fox. Trust me, if you are a fan of Gordon F'ing Ramsay, plug into the original F Word series from the UK, its probably the best cooking show of all time. This poor reinvention won't make it to Season 2.

A new low for Ramsay
PuckerFactor9 June 2017
I was a big fan of the UK F Word series, it was informative and unpretentious and entertaining...it was all about the food.

No surprises that the the US (Fox) version is the opposite. This show is disjointed and gimmicky and hard to stomach. I'm surprised that Ramsay can't realise what made the UK version work and apply it to the US version. I guess the only taste he has is in his mouth.

My review is to explain the increase of my score from 4 to 8
Top_Dawg_Critic13 July 2017
After watching the first episode, I was "meh, boring and nothing special". The entire premise of these teams cooking in Gordon Ramsay's restaurant is sort of boring, and when watching a television show with Gordon Ramsay in it, I expect his crappy (yet enjoyable) attitude and harassment he is best know for, and missing in this show. His celebrity guests that come to the restaurant are also boring and in my opinion, of no use to this show.

BUT... my increase in score after watching more episodes (because nothing else more interesting was on TV), is mainly due to his hilarious candid camera disguised appearances (yesterday's visit to his Vegas restaurant had me in stitches laughing out loud!), his Guinness Record attempts (excellent feature to add to the show) and his cook-offs with celebrities. I also like learning some of his recipes he cooks on his show.

And for these entertaining focal points consistently played out on each episode, my score has doubled. Please don't stop these, and increase them in length and numbers.

From a 4/10 to an 8/10. If he could be a little more of the prick we're all used to and expect, my score may go up even more! ;)

Thrilled that "The F Word" is in the US now!
jsmerhej8 June 2017
I have watched the UK version over and over. Launched in 2005 the show was 5 seasons and it was truly an entertaining show. After watching the US version, I have to say it's pretty close to the UK one with the following exceptions (hope you read this Gordon or the Producers)

01 Gordon please put on your Chef Whites. 02 Amp up the volume when you interview your guests because the room ambient noise over powers what they say. 03 Why did you do away with the original intro?? where you change into your Chef Whites while walking in... 04 Last but not least, thank you for reviving a classic!!

Cheers

Save your time for your family
Incredibly bad.

Pompous guy, who doubtless can cook, has taken his popularity to a new low. Goodness knows it is difficult to find truly interesting viewing opportunities when TV providers try for 24/7/365 content. As a member of the Nielson polling community, I am asked to "test" things. Tested this.

If IMDb had a rating lower than zero, this show would get that. That bad.

Grab a recipe, go to your kitchen, create something.

Your day will be much better.

No spoilers but it a ..MEH
HelloGordon2 June 2017
I was a fan of The F word,..but the US version misses the notes that made the UK version likable,..make the stars cook the meals. The makeup gag by Tony Gardner and his EFX crew was awesome. But the rest of the show was disjointed and didn't make sense. I'd rather watch Masterchef or Masterchef Junior,..hell Masterchef Canada is better. Just saying this show had awkward editing and made me feel that I could turn it off at any moment,..and not miss a thing. I rather watch him doing what made him famous or reviewing Hotels.

Absolutely dreadful
moefan-1116821 June 2017
I've enjoyed many of Ramsay's shows over the years. He's one of the few celebrity chefs who can actually cook and his personality has spiced up more than one such show.

This however, was a disaster. There's no other way to put it. Totally contrived without an ounce of authenticity to it, the show jumps all over the place without continuity or forethought. By the end of a show, I'm not invested in the dish, the recipes, the contestants, their stories, the outcome of the challenge, or the silly little celebrity cook-off challenge that is interjected for no apparent purpose.

Ramsay has become a gold mine for Fox, and they're doing to him what networks do every time they create a new "hit" show. They completely overexpose both the original show's format and the individuals who helped it get off the ground.

I would rather be forced to sit through an episode of Joanie Loves Chachi. Universally rated as one of the worst shows of all time, you should google and watch the show's intro to re-calibrate your low water mark and remind you just how bad TV can be. Candidly, The F Word isn't much better.

Really shocked not at all what I expected
djg3251421 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big Gordon Ramsey fan. Love Kitchen Nightmares, UK f Word, MasterChef, even hotel hell. But this? Argh. So bad. I watched 2 episodes out of loyalty. The premise of two families cooking against one another in a restaurant environment with "celebrity" so- called foodies fell flat. I could care less what snoop dog likes. Sorry I find him repulsive and vulgar. Watching Gordon kiss up to him gave me shivers. Really disgusting. Bad enough celebrities constantly intrude into regular Americans lives with their opinions on everything from politics to fashion and social issues now I am supposed to care about what they think of food?? Not happening. The celebrity guests were lame and uninteresting, the competitors boring, and Gordon's prancing around the dining room uncomfortable. I tried to give it another chance and watched the second episode. More of the same. Boring, bland, and awkward. Didn't make it past 30 minutes. Decided to read a book instead. Sorry Gordon. Think the world of you but this show sucks.

Horrible
yellowcottoncandy22 June 2017
Had high expectations but this was the worst television episode I have seen in my entire life. Extremely pointless and boring. I love watching cooking shows but this was hardly about making food at all. I have no interest in watching this disaster ever again. Would recommend Masterchef instead.

Vegan week- pate de fois gras and lamb shanks- i am not a "foodie"
braquecubism5 December 2019
So I am vegan (sometimes little aged cheese, from grass fed pasture cows)- hate, I mean hate runny fried eggs- and gluten free, allergies. these cooking shows and foodies eat stuff I don't. If one more person extolls bacon, burnt pig flesh. or they kill another lobster - or kill another octopus, or eel (amazing prehistoric animals) - she is rich being a top Michelin chef, cooking animals. so I tuned in, just to see, bec it says "VEGAN week" yah. I can lean to cook something interesting, hopefully no gluten. More and more people are changing their eating.

flavoring, vegan sauces- herbs- how to make it tasty and interesting. and right off he is talking and showing pate de fois gras (tortured duck liver) and lamb shanks encrusted in nuts.
