It could be a lot better.
truebeliever-7523710 September 2018
This anime could be a lot better if it steered away of some annoying anime tropes. The premise is really great. A distant future where the discovery of the new mineral Orichalt has allowed humanity to expand beyond the solar system. To mine Orichalt, humanity developed I-machines, robots that can operate by transferring the human pilot's consciousness into the robot's operating system. A good theme to explore the bounds of humanity. Unfortunately they used it in the wrong way and let the awesome premise go to waste in just a moderately fun anime, with some plot twists. The characters are nice, but not really very deep, and they could given their background. The animation on the other hand is really great.

Well done but convoluted
Snootz21 December 2019
Summary: interesting and captivating for the first 10 episodes then digresses into a convoluted mess.

The anime is very good. The voice acting is excellent as is the directing. The writing is anime-acceptable. It's understood that when one watches anime, it's likely to have anime qualities. That includes cliche, standard anime tropes, and a bit of goofy. That's part of its charm.

The story starts off unique, slowly building on the characters and story line. At the beginning the lead character (a whiney teenage girl) comes off pretty much as a whiney teenage girl. There is growth in the character, but not in any way that is truly important to the story. The other characters are more interesting, but about half of them unnecessary to the plot.

It's a "giant robot" story so one can accept typical giant robot plenty-of-action. Unfortunately the story line although interesting, remains rather simplistic. Just as one is expecting everything to be explained and sewed up, they pull a typical "What is going on now?" deeply-emo "plot twist" too often seen in anime, and the story just plops into a disappointingly unoriginal end mess. Two of the characters become so confusing in nature, the viewer loses track of who is intended to be the good guy / bad guy, or if both are both.

It is worth watching, but only just. Parts of it are very enjoyable, other parts not so much. A better and more logical ending would have gone a long way in making this a more enjoyable overall animation. As it is, it runs along for a good sprint but then trips at the finish line. In the end I found myself thinking, "I'm glad it was tied up in 12 episodes"... and wishing it had more thought put into the final two.

Extra note: if you enjoy English lyrics being sung in heavy Asian accent, the theme song will be a real prize. ;D

Beautifully art with great characters

Despite some terrible english changes to original Japanese text and dialog, this is a really good Anime. A strong science fiction story thar utilizes Mecha and pseudo science into a believable story.

In the spirit of the Xenogears and Xenosaga
meganvineyard839 August 2017
It's like they took elements of Xenogears and Xenosaga and fused them together to make this anime! This is the best anime I've seen since Gurren Lagann. The series starts out very slow and then it picks up, give it about 3 episodes. I thought it was just another mediocre mecha anime like Aldnoah.Zero but it is so much more!

Waiting for this for a while!

When this anime started out, I thought the story'd be rather bland and that there would be no incentive for me to keep watching. I ended up giving it some more time and it slowly grew on me.

The story is pretty good and I understand the way they animated this series may be hard for some people to watch, but I assurre you, THIS is worth your time!

Great series! It is the Sci-Fi I was dreaming since years...
I love Science-Fiction, I read almost all Philip K.Dick's Books, I really like Asimov's Sci-Fi, Silverberg, and even the Books of Jules Verne.

And I like too Science-Fiction anime like Ghost In The Shell (and every Mamoru Oshii's Movie), and even the Adventure type SCi-Fi by Leiji Matsumoto (Star Blazers, Capitan Harlock).

Well, this anime directed by Goro Taniguchi who already did a great space opera with Planetes, has a unique idea that contains a lot of references to titles like Capitan Harlock or science fiction recent movies like Neill Blomkamp Humandroid. The Adventure, the Robots theme, here not controlled by A.I., and this is the best idea and the most important theme of the entire plot. But there is also something else. There is something beyond.

I loved the animation, the graphic style, even the "kawai" type characters, that make this anime right even for kids! Try it and Enjoy this great show!

I LOVE IT!
piperdavies-6251228 June 2023
After a few months in an anime slum I picked an anime on Netflix at random. I was HOOKED from the moment it started. Watching it on my work breaks and everything. The characters are easy to love because despite being robots it's easy to relate, sympathise and understand them. I don't quite understand science and sci-fi isn't really my go to. But this is definitely a new comfort show i will be watching again and again. I wish i could see more of Ido because his character growth is impeccable and crafted so well i was speechless. There are dislikable characters but i like that there aren't any hatable characters. In my opinion it's because it's easy to understand people's motivations. But the professor is 100% the most dislike-able characters.

Also Rick is a lovely characters i actually adore him. I do get Denki (my hero academia) vibes from him. But he is amazing. The Lieutenant is another amazing character. While watching i did get so caught up in it that i constantly forgot Maya is a child, probably between 16 and 20 doing physical activities for the first time. But her naivety became irritating but wasn't overplayed which is great. A lot of other animes overplay the naive female role but it felt just enough. Like Maya's seemed normal like an actual teenage girl level normal.
