Daring film worth the watch
davidjzellis1 August 2018
Hats off to Andreaa Boyer who wrote directed and starred in this, what is a fairly ambitious film and story and pulls it off in an interesting and intriguing to watch manner. This movie may not be for everyone but for those who like daring and intriguing cinema this is worth the watch, as the film deals with some pretty taboo topics so for those who are sensitive you have been warned. Boyer stars as Julia a victim of abuse throughout her life and continues to spiral downwards at the film progresses.

Although a first time film it will be interesting see how Boyer's career progresses, this highly reminiscent of the films of Larry Clark such as "Kids" and "Ken Park" so if you enjoy that and can handle heavy topics this should be checked out.

Also a nice touch that Legendary Filmmaker Uli Lommel has a role in here as a film director.

Great film

I was recommended this movie by a friend. I really enjoyed it and was surprised it was so good. The story wasn't too complexed so it was easy to enjoy. It had deep moments but also so funny ones. I hope another movie is made because I want to see what's next for the main character.

Raw, Unfiltered and Real

Julia 17 isn't afraid to show you the gritty and dark side of life. It's very raw and unfiltered. The acting, look of the picture, locations, all lend themselves nicely to the inner and outer turmoil Julia constantly finds herself in. A very real portrayal of life at rock bottom. And although I found myself gritting my teeth at some of the situations Julia found herself in, I highly enjoyed this film. Andreea Boyer as Julia, gives a knockout performance. A must watch for the indie film fan.

A beautifully authentic film

Julia 17 is a powerful film that mixes realism with a wonderful sense of poetry.

Julia is an outcast who searches the world for a truth she can believe in. But because it is a very real search, many of her travels lead to pain, turmoil and great difficulty. But we're with Julia for her journey. We care about her. While her quest for inner peace is not an easy one, it is relatable. In the end we're very much involved with Julia, hoping she finally finds what she seeks.

A film featuring fine work behind and in front of the camera. It's a story told with great passion and care. Bravo!

Ambitious, gritty and raw film worth your time to see

This is a really ambitious film that feels so real and heartbreaking as we experience the main character Julia's life. It's one of the grittier indie films I've ever seen -- and oftentimes was tough to watch many of the things she goes through -- but throughout I always empathized with her. The acting by everyone was great and for this kind of film, real. And the soundtrack really enhanced everything we watched, helping to really frame this gritty, raw world. I was also very impressed that the star, Andreea, also wrote, directed and produced this.

Very nice for a first time filmmaker

Raw and gritty story of abuse and neglect. Andreea Boyer shines in her role as a first time filmmaker, director, producer and star of this gripping indie film. Some really great visuals, some will have you cringing. Your heart will long for a break for the girl in this flick who has been repeatedly abused by her father, abandoned by her mother and taken advantage of by others. Some great acting here all around. Wonderful soundtrack as well and great locations.
