Good pilot
jwwalrath-227-854871 March 2018
Episode was funny, but also included a sense of drama to it. Though the show is full of jokes, the threats the characters faced felt real.

Wonderful animation. Vary colorful and the space scenes are very impressive.

Only area I worry about is Gary. His tendency to narcistically say what ever comes to his head is funny, but I'm worried if the show goes to the wheelhouse with this once too often and it'll get annoying.

Solid premiere

It was a very good pilot that included and established of what the show will be as it progresses through the season, introducing the main characters of the show, future conflicts with the Lord Commander and Mooncake. The issue I take with this episode(and a good portion of this show) is how annoying Gary gets sometimes, which can really dampen the experience on rewatches. Otherwise, it's a very good premiere with a lot of heart.

Warning: Spoilers
So as first episode it had great beginning also the introduction and short music seemed really cool. The name " Toral Nebula" cough my eyes witch seemed very unique. That little green creature "mooncake" looked very cute and adorable I also admire this episode because it has cruel side with evil enemy. Totally worth to give a chance to his TV series.

...Not at all what I was expecting

Warning: Spoilers
Wow.

This is actually pretty good.

I figured I'd be getting a poor ripoff of Rick and Morty, or Futurama, or even a Family-Guy-In-Space.

Instead, the episode starts off rather....melancholy, in a space graveyard, and not with half-assed, pilot-level jokes!? What!?

While Gary can definitely be...a lot, at times...he's a well-meaning but naive guy who's more down on his luck, than the ignorant space prisoner he's been branded as.

He's annoyingly optimistic at time, but it's because that optimism is all he has.

Oh, and Mooncake, his little pal, is amazing! I won't spoil his secret, as it's amazing. Overall he is a good companion for Gary.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that the in-space scenes are tight, with a lot of effort going into how cool they look. The way the ship "light-folds" (I.e. their version of hyperspace) is just damn cool.

I give this episode an 8, but for a pilot this well done, it might as well be a 10.

It's good as the first episode of the series, but it has the main problems that beloved adult series have

Warning: Spoilers
They say that Gary's character is very annoying, and yes, but not that much, I feel that his personality fits well with the style of the series and he combines well with other characters, but it is true that many times he feels very exaggerated, and in this episode especially is where it is most unbearable and there are many jokes that don't work because of Gary.

From then on, I think the episode is good, it is a good introduction to the series presenting the tone of the series from the first countdown scene.

The animation is quite good despite having very simple designs, it is super fluid and colorful

The plot of the episode is meh, everything that is presented here is not original or tries to make some significant change to what the science fiction genre is, especially in the characters (we have the protagonist who is good and somewhat idiotic, the adorable character who doesn't speak which is almost like the characteristic hallmark of this one, the secondary character who is tougher and who at first doesn't get along with the protagonist but we know that over time they will, the protagonist's love interest, the super antagonist bad, etc.)

Weak 6 - Mid 6: Good first episode that presents the premise of the series correctly, but it has many problems that you would expect when watching it for the first time (Forced/exaggerated humor and Simple plot)

Hillarious and Captivating!

Warning: Spoilers
(By the way, before I start this review, I'd like to note that I'll be reviewing each episode of this series once a week, for 10 weeks, starting this week. I'll also be reviewing another 10 episode show along with this, called "Apple and Onion", so if you want to see what I thought of that show, you can see me there too. Anyway, let's start the review!)

I first found this show on Netflix, searching for a cartoon to watch to pass the time. When I turned this on, I was expecting to be lame, boring, or just a quick time-waster. To my surprise, it was far from that!

This show is incredibly hilarious! All of the characters were so incredibly charismatic that I just couldn't help laughing at their jokes. The humor really helps with getting to know these people really quickly, which in other cartoons, sometimes takes a few episodes to fully learn about their personality. The only character I found potentially annoying was Gary. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE him already, but if all he does is spout sarcasm at everything around him, it could become potentially obnoxious.

The plot was really fun! The writers made it very easy to comprehend the setting and story of the show, without it feeling forced. There were also many moments that made me wonder EVEN more about the place they live in, which makes me want to watch further even more.

With hillarious and lovable characters (yes, even KVN), a compelling plot, and nothing forced-feeling, this episode sets up a high bar for the next 9 episodes in this season. There is no doubt that I will want to watch further this series. I am super excited of what's to come. Hopefully I'll see you again next week with another review! (Who again? I don't know, I just like saying that!)

Oh, and Mooncake is the cutest thing ever. No question.

Favourite Line: "I like a girl with a lot of phoness."
