Can't believe it's been nearly 10 years since this saga all went down! Saving the Roar does a great job of taking the audience through the story from beginning to end. But what makes this film even more powerful is the behind the scenes storylines, told directly by the players and coaches themselves, that the public didn't get a chance to see. It really humanizes and puts in perspective the entire saga. The scenes with former Navy Seal Hawk Slater were truly powerful and inspirational - impactful well beyond Penn State and football. This film is relevant for anyone in a leadership position or team/organizational environment.

Must see!

You might think you know the PSU 2012 football story. You don't until you've seen this film. This is told by the players and coaches, not a director who wants to push their thoughts and personal views. This is a must see. We Are!
Powerful film

Saving The Rohr is a powerful film about a dedicated group of young men coming together to save one of the most storied football franchises in America. The film spends very little time talking about the scandal itself, something I agree with and applaud. These players, who saved Penn State football, deserve to have their story told. This is a film for anyone who likes football (college or NFL) as well as any PSU fan.
Had no idea.

I'm a fan of football and love to see what happens behind the scenes, not only on the field. Did not go to PSU but doesn't matter. There is an historical aspect of this that I wasn't expecting and learned so much. Not only about teamwork and tradition, but also about finding inspiration from unexpected places. Just a few minutes longer than i would have liked, but the player back stories are deep and the ending brings it all together very well. Worth it.
Turned Bama fans into Penn State fans

Watched the film Friday night with my septuagenarian parents. We are an Alabama family with multiple Bama graduates. When my sister and her family arrived to visit the next day, to watch Bama football of course, both of my parents insisted that her boys, 8 and 10, see this film as soon as possible. Then we all hung around to watch Penn State beat Auburn. Yes, we always like to see Auburn get beat, but the point was, we are now Penn State fans!!!
A family friendly film that will inspire and move ALL generations. We need more stories like this!!! Amazing role models - what true legends are made of! Cannot recommend it enough!

A Primer for Overcoming Adversity
howiecohen20 September 2021
Saving the Roar masterfully tells the story how a group of young men faced and overcame a level of adversity that easily could have destroyed a storied college football dynasty. The courage and grit these athletes showed by staying with the 2012 Penn State Football team during this season is a model for others to follow. A must watch - even if you are not a football fan! It is a story of commitment, and belief in yourself and your teammates! We all need more stories like this one right now.
Powerful and emotional film

Saving The Roar was a really well done film about a story that people only know the surface of. This movie lets the story be told by the people directly involved in it and that makes all the difference. The end result is an inspirational story that any sports fan would love and every sports fan should watch.
Incredible Insight into the Inside Story

You do not need to be a Penn State fan or even a college football fan to see this movie. This is a film about keeping a team together after every student-athlete was granted the ability to leave the team and start immediately at any other school. This is about the players who chose to stay when it would be easier to leave, and their efforts honored the players that came before them, and paved the way for players to come after them.
Brotherhood beyond the game

This movie is the movie that needed to be told. Even if you are jot a fan of Penn State, but are a football fan, this movie is insightful, moving and must watch. It is from the player (and coach Bill O'Brien) perspective and how teammates became brothers. They played for each other and they became legends.

In depth understanding of how difficult 2012 was...

Having been a Penn State fan my entire life and being in my 40s, I know the football history. Great coaches, great teams, great players, great accomplishments. Nothing more so than 2012. I've said 2012 made Mike Mauti the greatest player to ever wear the blue and white. His ability to keep the core was phenomenal. Zordich is a great compliment to Mauti and those guys deserve all the praise in the world for keeping PSU football afloat. I feel for the guys who left, but hearing Silas in the film and Morris at the premiere shows me that so much of what Joe instilled in those guys lives on. As one of them said, I think it was Massaro, 2012 was a product of what Joe had taught those guys. Just a phenomenal story, well put together.
Inspirational

Honestly I was apprehensive to relive this story. But as a 2x Penn St dad who showed up in Beaver stadium in 2012 to show support for these young men I wasn't going to stop now. I'm so glad I watched. This is a story of boys becoming men. Men who showed maturity and selflessness beyond their years who literally held together a great university, it's alumni, and all their supporters. A story of life beating you down and the perseverance to get back up for a greater good.
Watch this film. If you appreciate true heroes then this is for you.

A must-see for every Penn Stater
thejunkers30 September 2021
This film perfectly encapsulates the events and emotions of that tumultuous time in Penn State football history. It is a must-see for every Penn Stater who lived through the horrors of that era, and especially younger alums and students who didn't. Recommended for anyone who loves college football and a true story of loyalty and triumph over adversity.
Incredible story, a must watch for any PSU fan
