The recent solar eclipse that captivated the protected eyes of Americans also made an impact on our ears. The event helped send Soundgarden’s classic 1994 hit “Black Hole Sun” to the top of Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs chart.
The tune’s title and lyrics paired nicely with the natural phenomenon, leading the song to draw 4.2 million official streams earned (up 34%) and 2.5 million in radio airplay audience (up 19%), as well as sell 1,000 downloads (up 166%) in the United States during the week of April 5th-11th.
According to Billboard, “Black Hole Sun” is the first Soundgarden song to top Hot Hard Rock Songs tally, although that particular chart has only been around since 2020. The song also made an impact on the Hot Rock Songs, Hot Alternative Songs, and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts, landing in the teens on all three.

Nepotism in the entertainment industry has always been a contagious and concerning issue that often invites controversies as it subjugates talented individuals who do not possess the same influential connections. Such was the case with Maya Hawke, the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. The 25-year-old actress has appeared in a plethora of popular projects like Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Stranger Things, Asteroid City, and many more.

The 27-track Expanded Edition features the original 12-song Ten Summoner’s Tales album plus 15 bonus tracks consisting of B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and live performances (complete track listing included below). Eleven of these 15 bonus tracks were previously unavailable for digital download or streaming. Maya Hawke is a self-proclaimed workaholic — as if we needed the multi-faceted artist to tell us that.
After breaking out in Netflix’s viral hit series “Stranger Things” to releasing a new album and leading indie films like Gia Coppola’s “Mainstream” and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s “Do Revenge,” premiering September 16, It Girl Hawke refuses to take a break.
“I mean, I’ve done a bunch of stuff on my little hiatus from ‘Stranger Things,'” Hawke joked to IndieWire during a recent interview. “I’m going to sneak in under the wire before I go back to do more ‘Stranger Things.’ I love working. I’m definitely a workaholic. I love my job.”
That job also includes roles opposite her mother Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson in “Kill Room,” joining the ensemble cast for Wes Anderson’s “Asteroid City,” and starring alongside director Bradley Cooper for Leonard Bernstein biopic “Maestro.

One of the year’s biggest breakouts in music has been Dove Cameron. While she was a known figure on the Disney Channel in the mid-to-late 2010s, Cameron’s musical breakout truly came this year, with the success of her viral hit “Boyfriend.” The song managed to peak in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number-two on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart, a very impressive feat for the newcomer. Cameron’s year got even better when she won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, besting big names like Maneskin and Latto. Is she headed for the same success at the Grammys?
SEEBillboard Hot 100: Every #1 song of 2022
Dove’s biggest advantage in the Grammy race is her general musical profile. Not only is she a pop artist, which historically is a big advantage in the general field categories, but her sound is a more serious brand of pop.

On the “Wtf with Marc Maron” podcast, the “Silence” actor recalled how nervous he was to work with the legendary Oscar-winning writer-director for the 2016 adaptation of Shūsaku Endō’s novel about 17th-century Jesuit priests in Japan. Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, and Ciaran Hinds also starred.
“You go in with everything you imagine you would go in with: total excitement, trepidation, pinching yourself, total awareness of how lucky you are that you are one of the handful of people who have gotten to work with the American master of cinema,” Garfield told Maron.
As for what the seemingly elusive Scorsese is like, Garfield couldn’t help but be honest.

Maya Hawke debuts single “Thérèse” in a haunting music video helmed by “Vox Lux” director Brady Corbet.
Filmed over the course of two days in upstate New York, Hawke, topless, leads a string of delinquent young adults post-orgy in the woods. The five-minute video marks the first single from Hawke’s upcoming album “Moss,” out September 23.
“‘Thérèse’ is about the secret spaces we build where we are free to be ourselves, in a world that is always intentionally or systematically misunderstanding us,” Hawke said in a press statement. “How hard we have to fight against internal and external forces just to love each other, love ourselves, love our bodies. ‘Thérèse’ is a call to return to the beginner’s mind. A reminder, if only to myself.”
The “Mainstream” actress cited growing up in the spotlight with iconic actor parents Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke as inspiration for the gently brutal ballad.

It dives into the fangirl experiences, movements and markets of the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s, spotlighting the devoted girls, women and queer fans who have turned boy bands — including New Edition, New Kids on the Block, Backstreet Boys, *Nsync, One Direction and BTS — into multibillion-dollar franchises that dominate both the airwaves and pop culture phenomena.

Andrew Garfield shot to international stardom playing the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s beloved web-slinger in “The Amazing Spider-Man” in 2012, and then reprising the role in the 2014 sequel. Until then, he was mostly an indie character actor, starring in films like “Never Let Me Go” and “The Social Network.” While featuring in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is certainly a tony role for any up-and-coming actor, Garfield recently got candid about his experiences starring in the Sony films in an interview with The Guardian.
“I got my heart broken a little bit,” the American-British actor said. “I went from being a naive boy to growing up… How could I ever imagine that it was going to be a pure experience?”
He added, “There are millions of dollars at stake and that’s what guides the ship. It was a big awakening and it hurt.”

The Stranger Things star on viral fame, the challenges of dyslexia, and convincing her actor parents she wanted to follow in their footsteps
New York-born Maya Hawke, 23, began her career in modelling before making her screen debut as Jo March in the BBC’s 2017 adaptation of Little Women. She was Linda “Flowerchild” Kasabian in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and plays Robin in Netflix hit Stranger Things. Hawke now stars in Mainstream, directed and written by Gia Coppola. She lives in New York and is the daughter of actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke.

In order to avoid splitting votes and allow for the possibility of netting two acting nominations this year, Searchlight Pictures will campaign Andrew Garfield’s performance as televangelist Jim Bakker in “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” for supporting actor consideration, based on an invite that was sent to BAFTA voters for an upcoming virtual screening of the film.
Following the biopic’s bow at the Toronto International Film Festival and modest box office receipts, its Oscar prospects have been seemingly on the fringe, but the film, directed by Michael Showalter, could make a roaring comeback during the season. Garfield’s co-star Jessica Chastain, who plays his wife Tammy Faye, will angle for lead actress, and could become a central piece of a competitive race that includes Olivia Colman (“The Lost Daughter”), Penelope Cruz (“Parallel Mothers”) and Kristen Stewart (“Spencer”).

Oscars voters have always loved seeing actors whose startling physical transformations come after countless hours in the makeup chair.
After Renée Zellweger (“Judy”), Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Charlize Theron (“Monster”) won Oscars for their impressively-altered looks, Jessica Chastain could be on a similar path for her role as the media-loving televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in Michael Showalter’s “The Eyes of Tammy Faye.” Following a world bow at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Searchlight Pictures dramedy, echoing previous Oscar embraces such as “I, Tonya,” could make Chastain a contender for her third nomination, and could bring in a few other notices if campaigned correctly.
Chastain’s previous Oscar noms came in supporting actress for “The Help” (2011) and actress for “Zero Dark Thirty” (2012). She also serves as one of the producers for the film, along with Kelly Carmichael, Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane. While “Tammy Faye” could...

When cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw (“Mainstream”) first interviewed with Kate Herron (“Daybreak”) about shooting “Loki,” it was the first time that a director presented her with a look book. Normally, it’s the other way around during prep. Of course, there were stills from “Blade Runner” and “Brazil,” but also “Zodiac,” which figured most prominently in discussions about the central location: the mysterious Time Variance Authority (Tva). It was definitely a retro look for this trippy sci-fi noir about alternate timelines, Loki variants, and digging deeper into Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief.
“When she showed me her references during the interview, I smiled because that’s what I was thinking and we obviously had the same taste,” said Arkapaw, who is rumored but unconfirmed to replace Oscar-nominated Rachel Morrison as the Dp on “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” “Tva especially had a ‘Zodiac’ vibe in the theater and corridors,” she added.

Social media as a way of hiding ourselves and assuming a new identity is an increasingly familiar cinematic concept, and in most genre films, that flexibility can introduce a kind of threat. In Gia Coppola’s recent “Mainstream,” Jan Komasa’s “The Hater,” and Leo Gabriadze’s “Unfriended,” Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram allow for a veiling of users’ true identities.

So far, the film is receiving mixed reviews concerning the storyline that might have been more designated towards change had it been released a few years ago. Writer and director Gia Coppola has only directed one feature film prior to ‘Mainstream’ but has more than shown her creativity with youth stories. In director Gia Coppola’s latest film, “Mainstream,” her first since 2014’s coming of age indie, “Palo Alto,” the filmmaker once again chronicles the story of disillusioned youth looking for outlets of validation. This time she targets social media and current influencer culture obsessions via her protagonist Frankie (Maya Hawke). Frankie is swept away by the enigmatic YouTube influencer Link (an uninhibited Andrew Garfield), and they quickly amass a sizable online following after a recording of him goes viral.

Never read the comments—a universal rule for all writers who publish, share, or create on the internet. No matter what you say or how you say it, there will always be a troll ready to disparage your work or you personally. They don’t need a reason beyond their ability to do so. They don’t need a salient point either. And it’s precisely because they possess neither that they ultimately live rent-free inside the minds of everyone they attack with artificial anonymity. One doesn’t even have to read their words to feel their pain because knowing they exist eats at you regardless.

The big dildo was Andrew Garfield’s idea. It was a sunny afternoon in the summer of 2019 when the actor formerly known as Spider-Man ran through downtown Hollywood stark naked save for the floppy strap-on bouncing around between his legs.
Garfield seemed manic, possessed by the spirit of something even better than fame as he high-fived tourists and howled to the sky that “I just woke up in my soul and my heart!” The social media footage that made its way onto “Entertainment Tonight” would show the recent Oscar nominee barking at pedestrians with evangelical zeal while a cop handcuffed him against the windows of a head shop. “Are you feeling me, baby!? I know you’re feeling me!”
Anyone who rubbernecked long enough would’ve seen “Mainstream” writer-director Gia Coppola drive up in the van where she’d been gleefully watching the chaos on her monitor from across the street.

We’ll say this with cautious optimism: the summer movie season is…back? After the coronavirus pandemic upended the 2020 release calendar, pushing back some of the year’s most hyped films and inspiring new avenues of distribution for others, the summer of 2021 is shaping up as platform for blockbusters (from the latest “Fast and Furious” to the post-apocalyptic survival of the “A Quiet Place” installment all the way through a seventh “Conjuring” film) and rife with discoveries (including some festival hits that date all the way back to 2019).
Of course, the distribution landscape has changed radically over the past year, and not every anticipated summer movie will simply head to the multiplex. This season’s lineup includes a wide variety of viewing options that go beyond the brick and mortar theater. It’s a summer defined by options — not only in terms of what you see, but how you choose to see it.

Vertigo Releasing has debuted a new trailer for the drama ‘The Sound of Metal’ featuring a blistering performance from Riz Ahmed.
During a series of adrenaline-fueled one-night gigs, itinerant punk-metal drummer Ruben (Riz Ahmed) begins to experience intermittent hearing loss. When a specialist tells him his condition will rapidly worsen, he thinks his music career — and with it, his life — is over. His bandmate and girlfriend Lou (Olivia Cooke) checks the recovering heroin addict into a secluded sober house for the deaf in hopes it will prevent a relapse and help him learn to adapt to his new situation. But after being welcomed into a community that accepts him just as he is, Ruben has to choose between his equilibrium and the drive to reclaim the life he once knew.
Directed by Darius Marder, the trailer purposefully includes captions (just like the film itself) so that hearing and non-hearing audiences can experience Ruben’s journey.

"We're about to go stratospheric!!!" IFC Films has revealed another new trailer for the super wacky indie dark comedy Mainstream, which originally premiered at last year's Venice Film Festival. Strange strategy to release the teaser trailer after the full trailer, but this one plays a bit different. The second feature from filmmaker Gia Coppola (following Palo Alto) is another intense social media cautionary tale about a crazy personality known as "No One Special" that is sucked into internet fame. A young woman thinks she's found a path to internet stardom when she starts making YouTube videos with a charismatic stranger – until the dark side of viral celebrity threatens to ruin them both. Starring Maya Hawke & Andrew Garfield & Nat Wolff, with Kalena Yiaueki, Johnny Knoxville, and also Jason Schwartzman. This trialer has tons of wild quotes - including one from yours truly and my Venice review. This is definitely a loud & crazy film.

Gia Coppola knows the secret to social media appeal: it’s whatever Andrew Garfield is eagerly throwing down in the filmmaker’s sophomore effort, “Mainstream.” The frenetic satire follows the former Spider-Man and Oscar nominee as the wildly obnoxious Link, a viral star whose entire life is about to be upended by his realization that what’s popular isn’t always what’s right.
“I knew this character needed to have an undertone of sweetness in order to follow him, but also Andrew is extremely intelligent and seemed to have similar interests on the subject matter, so he really became a collaborator,” Coppola told IndieWire. “I also loved the idea of seeing him play a type of character that’s different from what he usually gets type casted, [to] let him run wild and play.”
