According to new McKinsey & Company research, there are over 62 million Latinos living in the United States who not only account for more than $3 trillion of Gdp but are also avid consumers of film and TV. US Latinos account for 24 percent of box office ticket sales and 24 percent of streaming subscribers. Yet somehow, there still aren't enough Latines behind and in front of the camera even though our viewership doubles when we see ourselves represented on or off screen.
Today, we still don't have enough TV programming that accurately represents us - and the few shows that have been created for us and by us, like "Vida," "One Day at a Time," "Promised Land," and "Gentefied," were eventually all canceled despite their popularity. Among these many cancellations was Dominican American creator Claudia Forestieri's beloved "Gordita Chronicles," which was released in June 2022 on HBO Max and was canceled after just one season.

They say never to mess with the classics, but the first trailer for Showtime's version of "Let the Right One In" is here, and it looks pretty dang good. The latest reimagining of the icy Swedish vampire film looks to transfer the story to a new setting -- and takes on a new format, as a potentially ongoing TV show. “The guy that delivers lunch makes more money on the movie than we do,” said writer and artist Jimmy Palmiotti, summing up the situation of comic book creators signing Hollywood deals that pay them little while corporations rake in billions.
The topic of creators getting a share of what they create was front and center Friday at Comic-Con during a panel titled “The Importance of Comic Creators Owning Their Own IP.”
The topic is very current, as earlier in the week The Hollywood Reporter exposed the very lopsided contracts writers and artists face when seeing the characters they create end up on screen.

His death was announced by his family on a Facebook page devoted to The Edge of Night.
From 1967 to 1977, May played the good-guy attorney Adam Drake, first making his mark on the soap in a notable 1968 episode during which May delivered the episode’s only dialogue: a 22-minute trial summation in which he argued for the innocence of his client, a singer accused of murder. ABC likes to have a sudsy primetime soap on its midseason roster, and Promised Land looks like a winner.
In the past, we've had one-and-done but highly watchable shows like Grand Hotel and The Baker and the Beauty, so we're hoping Promised Land stands the test of time.
The series is an epic, generation-spanning drama about two Latinx families vying for wealth and power in California’s Sonoma Valley.
The first trailer dropped at the network's panel during the Winter TCA tour, and there was another big announcement regarding the series:
The first two episodes will be available on Hulu the day after the series premiere on ABC, marking the first time ABC programming will be released on Hulu before debuting on the network.
The series premieres Monday, Jan. 24 (10:01-11:00 p.m. Est), on ABC, out of The Bachelor.
Will Promised Land and The Bachelor be a match made in TV heaven?...

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez and Julio Macias' coveted series may have come to an end this year, but for these two stars, it's only the beginning.
These Latin(x) talents are two to watch, coming off highly buzzed-about roles on their hit series, each deep-diving into select communities and giving viewers insight into the lives of the underrepresented.
From following an Afro-Latinx trans woman and her Found Family through the height of the AIDS epidemic in NYC --- or a complex cholo with a heart of gold protecting loved ones in a fictionalized Californian hood, Rodriguez and Macias have only just begun to regal viewers with their storytelling.
And thus, the two grace the digital covers of the iconic Latina magazine (which is celebrating 25 years) in a special dual feature.

An unfortunate statistic among many acclaimed dramas with rabid fans is they often get snubbed for awards on TV’s biggest night. So, when Paramount Network’s “Yellowstone,” 2020’s highest-rated cable series, finally nabbed a nomination in its third season, its many, many fans breathed a sigh of relief.
“It’s a thrill and I’m very happy ‘cause it’s a great show, and it deserves a little love,” says Cary White, who is the production designer carrying the Emmy banner for the Western-flavored series. “It’s kind of like a Lifetime Achievement sort of thing because I’ve been doing it for a long time. It’s been, like, 25 years since I had the last nomination.”
That last nomination was for 1995’s Anjelica Huston-starrer “Buffalo Girls”, which is a strong indicator that White feels very comfortable in the Western genre. And though “Yellowstone” is frequently about how modernity is encroaching on legacy,...

A year after the 2020 Emmys nominated more nonwhite performers than ever before — but only two of which were Latinx on-screen performers — the 2021 Emmy nominations could nominate Latinx stars who were snubbed last year, as well as new contenders.
Last year’s Latinx nominated performers were Alexis Bledel, who was nominated for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her performance in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” and Karamo Brown who was nominated with the rest of the “Queer Eye” hosts for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program.
Latinx talent and advocates criticized the lack of nominations, including John Leguizamo, who boycotted the Emmys, and Entertainment Weekly’s Rosy Cordero, who wrote an impassioned opinion column titled, “Stop acting like there aren’t Latinx stars deserving of Emmy nominations.”

The Oscars had their moment of historic diversity, and it could be time for the Emmys to have one as well.
The biggest takeaway from the nominations-round ballots is that each acting category across drama, comedy and limited series/TV movie should have more than one Poc nominated in their respective races. If the stars continue to align, we could actually have two or more nominated in each, which would be a first in the 73-year history of the ceremony.
But it’s not all about diversity. There are a lot of other areas of opportunity for the voting members of the Television Academy to make history with this year’s Primetime Emmy Award nominations (and eventual wins).
Lead comedy actor nods look likely for Anthony Anderson (“Black-ish”) and Kenan Thompson (“Kenan”), while in supporting comedy actress Naomi Ackie (“Master of None”) and Ego Nwodim (“Saturday Night Live”) are strongly in the running.

TV academy voters are faced with a daunting task when they fill out their 2021 Emmy Awards nominations ballot in that they have to consider 133 shows for Best Drama Series. On the bright side, the amount of entrants is down by 66 from last year, and members no longer have to winnow their choices down to just 10 favorites. As with the last several years, they are being told to “Vote for as many achievements in this category that you have seen and feel are worthy of a nomination.”
Last year’s champ, “Succession,” will not return to defend its title, as no new episodes of the HBO series have aired since its second season finale in October 2019. Of its seven rivals last year, four — “Better Call Saul,” “Killing Eve,” “Ozark,” and “Stranger Things” — also did not return in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2020 to May 31, 2021. The remaining three — “The Crown,...

If you see Madison Taylor Baez (Selena: The Series) out in the wild, you may want to grab a crucifix. I only say this because Baez will star opposite Demián Bichir in Showtime's adaptation of Let the Right One In, and there's no telling how method some of these young actors might go. Currently sharpening its fangs for a pilot episode, the…...
