Martin begins his journey in Hawaii. After leaving tourist-filled Oahu, he explores the active volcanoes of the Big Island and the ancient traditions of Molokai Island. Next, Martin heads 2,500 miles north to Kodiak Island in Alaska.
In New York, Martin visits Manhattan, Ellis Island, and Coney Island. In Massachusetts, he stops in Martha's Vineyard and then chases great white sharks off the coast of Cape Cod. He ends his journey on several of Maine's remote islands.
Martin enjoys salsa dancing and rum in Puerto Rico before heading to the Sea Islands in Georgia. On the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Martin learns about Roanoke, before traveling to Chincoteague, Virginia, to watch the wild pony swim.
Martin visits the San Juan Islands in Washington State, then journeys down the California coast to the isolated Channel Islands. In Louisiana, he visits the Tabasco plant on Avery Island and explores hurricane-ravaged Delacroix Island.
