Iceland-based producers Sara Nassim (Lamb) and Grimar Jonsson (Rams) are joining forces with a new production outfit, Sarimar Films.
Each will continue to run their own independent production companies as well, for projects outside the new partnership – Nassim at S101 (which she runs alongside Hronn Kristinsdottir) and Jonsson at Netop Films. They will agree project-by-project which films are best to go through Sarimar.

In the 11 years since it burst onto the scene, A24 has accomplished something virtually unheard of in the film industry: establishing itself as a distributor with a fanbase that rivals those of the biggest directors.
Through a carefully curated lineup of acquisitions and original projects (and some seriously impressive marketing strategy), the company has become synonymous with crowd-pleasing independent filmmaking executed at the highest possible level. And its effortlessly cool promotional campaigns and brand collaborations have turned its logo into the ultimate stamp of approval for any project seeking film geek street cred.
The brand is elastic enough to be applied to a wide variety of projects — this is the company that released both “Moonlight” and “Spring Breakers,” after all — but you can generally recognize an A24 movie when you see one. It’s always going to be an auteur-driven work that unapologetically swerves away from mainstream trends in favor...

“Genres are a funny little concept, aren’t they?” says Linda Martell, a country music pioneer, in the intro to Beyoncé’s “Spaghettii.” “In theory, they have a simple definition that’s easy to understand, but in practice, well, some may feel confined.” Those two sentences perfectly sum up how Beyoncé has subverted expectations in recent years by spreading her wings beyond pop, hip-hop, and R&b to infuse rock, house, and now country music into her own unique style that ultimately really is just “Beyoncé.”

Plot: An astronaut who returns to Earth after a disaster in space only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, and one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and recover all that she has lost.
Review: Man, the International Space Station is getting trashed lately. For years, films like Gravity and The Cloverfield Paradox as well as countless others have used the station as the setting for disaster, but this year alone has had more than one project featuring it. First, the horror film I.S.S. made the triumphant existence of a joint space station a thing of terror and now Constellation fills viewers with a sense of foreboding surrounding the orbiting satellite. The resulting series is a psychological thriller that combines elements of horror,...

It certainly opens on a bloody note as a row of kneeling men and women are killed and skinned for the elaborate tattoos on their backs. In a remote Russian convent Sister Yulia awakes from a nightmare of the killings and finds she’s showing the signs of the Stigmata. Even more shocking, she’s pregnant with twins, and still a virgin.

Pantera rang in what would have been the late Dimebag Darrell’s 57th birthday during their show on Sunday (August 20th) in Austin, Texas.
It was fitting that the reunited metal legends were performing in Dimebag’s home state of Texas on the late guitarist’s actual birthday. During a break in the concert, Philip Anselmo and company were joined onstage by Lamb of God’s Randy Blythe and Dimebag’s longtime girlfriend Rita Haney for a round of the guitarist’s favorite drink, a “black-tooth grin”: whiskey with a splash of Coca-Cola.
After Blythe rolled out a beverage cart, Haney began passing out the shots — ostensibly some non-alcoholic, for the sober members of the tour party — Anselmo led the crowd in a round of “Happy Birthday.”

Asian buyers are ultra-cautious as theatrical markets are still in recovery following the pandemic, but bright spots include animation and re-releases of classic titles, said a group of leading European sales agents at the Cannes Marche’s Spotlight Asia panel today.
Sellers including Charades, Kinology, Films Boutique and StudioCanal said Asian buyers are finally back in person at markets, following three years of pandemic travel restrictions, but there is very little pre-buying activity as buyers in most Asian markets now won’t make a decision before seeing completed films.

Icelandic writer-director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson (“Under the Tree”) makes a smooth transition to English-language directing with the high-concept comedy “Northern Comfort,” co-written with longtime collaborators Halldór Laxness Halldórsson and Tobias Munthe. It centers on a disparate group of people who share a disabling fear of air travel, which they are trying to overcome through a high-end fearless flyers course. As a final challenge, the class is scheduled for a short, roundtrip “exposure” flight during which they should face and conquer their phobias. But this practical plan soon runs into some literal and figurative turbulence. Combining human drama and absurdist comedy, “Northern Comfort” should fly into other festivals before making a comfortable landing at a boutique art-house distributor or streamer.

A lot of classic rock songs were provocative. For example, many classic rock songs upset religious people. One of the songs in question was a George Harrison track called for unity among religious denominations.
George Harrison and John Lennon | Bettmann / Contributor 5. John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’
John Lennon’s “Imagine” was begging for controversy with the line “Imagine there’s no heaven” and its call for “no religion. The book All We Are Saying: The Last Major Interview with John Lennon and Yoko Ono includes an interview from 1980. In it, Johns said the World Church asked if they could use the song but change the lyrics to “Imagine one religion.”
“That showed they didn’t understand it at all,” John said. “It would defeat the whole purpose of the song, the whole idea.” According to the Los Angeles Times, the song got banned from multiple school events over the years for its lines about religion.

Life's been hard on Big Red, so far as his live-action outings are concerned. Both "Hellboy" (2004) and its sequel, 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," are evidence that auteur-driven superhero movies are the best kind there is. Sadly, however, neither of Guillermo del Toro's playfully grotesque supernatural action adventures was a runaway box office hit. On top of that, "The Golden Army" had the misfortune of opening in theaters two months after "Iron Man" and a mere week before "The Dark Knight." Sandwiched between those two game-changing comic book films, it's no wonder del Toro's off-beat creature feature got left in the dust, killing his plans for an apocalyptic finale to the trilogy in the process.
After the Neil Marshall-helmed "Hellboy" reboot fell flat on its face in 2019, it was only natural to assume Hellboy would be spending the foreseeable future in franchise prison. Surprisingly, though, that's not the case.

Actor Noomi Rapace burst onto the international film scene as the punk rock hacker Lisbeth Salander in "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," based on the posthumously published bestseller from author Stieg Larsson. Her performance put her on the shortlist to star as devout archaeologist Dr. Shaw in Ridley Scott's long-gestating "Alien" prequel, "Prometheus." Rapace reportedly beat out Carey Mulligan and Natalie Portman for the role, garnering full support from Scott to make the part hers, despite competition from some of the most notable actors in Hollywood.

Legendary Hungarian director Béla Tarr is at peace.
“It’s time for the old guys to leave. Retire, enjoy the sun,” he tells Variety in Cairo.
Tarr, in town to collect his lifetime achievement award and lead a workshop for young filmmakers, stopped making feature films after 2011 “The Turin Horse.” He has no intention of going back on his word.
“Everyone knew it was going to be my last. I knew that if I manage to make this movie, I won’t be able to say more. The language I have been creating became perfect. It’s ready and packed, so take it or leave it. It’s up to you now,” he says.
“You can’t repeat yourself, it’s boring and fake. We all know these guys who had some success 30 years ago and they keep using the same recipe. But something that was powerful 30 years ago is not powerful today.
