What can someone say about such a cult classic?
22 December 2004
It is hard to discuss intelligently an anti-movie such as this. The movie's plot is about a young high school student and follows his trials as he tries to arrange for a dance. We also watch his family deal with jobs and dating.

If you live an average, weird life - like the majority of the world - then you are much more likely to identify with this movie than preps, jocks, or the rich cliques in life...

Life for Napoleon and friends is not weird, as in some science fiction comedy, but more like real life - girl friends and pity dates, guys which have weird discussions and fantasies about what they do in their lives, and etc.

If you like off beat, comedy about nothing, etc. then you may have what it takes to enjoy this movie.

7th Heaven (1996–2007)
Spelling attempt at family oriented drama
14 May 2004
While many have lots of concerns about the relevancy of this series, it continues to be one of the few television series still in production which does not feel it necessary to fill the hour with murder, mayhem, violence, sex, and ridicule. This makes it a safe choice for many families who want a bit of entertainment together as a family. It is the only choice for the family on UPN, as far as I am aware.

For a period of time, 7th Heaven was doing 'topic of the week' episodes in the after school special vein. Some people like that style; others do not. The current season has focused more on the lives of the various family members, which is something that fans of the series wanted. However, as time has gone on, at least three of the actors playing the family's children have moved on to college and film work. This leaves many of the fan based frustrated. There's basically 2 of the original 'children' left in the series, and one of them is no longer a child. The addition of the twin boys 4 years ago as babies will probably pay off next season (if another season is approved) as they will be 5, about the age of the youngest child during the first year of the series. More antics of kindergarteners - multiplied by two - are expected.

Can 7th Heaven survive another season? I expect, due to the limited competition in this demographic, that it can. But SHOULD it survive, or should it bow out as gracefully as possible? That remains to be seen.

Unbreakable (2000)
another of a series of compelling movies by young director/writer
31 July 2003
after seeing signs, i decided to watch the other movies by this director/writer. unbreakable was next - and I am very glad that I watched it. The comic book theme through this movie - both blatant and subtle - was appealing to me as I have enjoyed comics for years.

There are some issues I had with the movie- I felt that some parts were a bit confusing - the relationship between husband and wife was a bit vague through the first part of the movie, and the lead character seemed to operate 'in a fog' through the most of it.

Also of issue is the whole 'vigilante' syndrome that should have been addressed in this story.

However, I certainly would recommend that, for those who find non-animated stories of extraordinary people interesting, try this movie.

Everwood (2002–2006)
Everwood - a drama for the family
29 January 2003
Everwood strives for, and regularly achieves, the goal of straddling two generations of audience. On the one hand, several of the teen age characters are designed to appeal to a early teen audience ... particularly young ladies. On the other hand, there are a few adults - primarily Treat Williams, who plays a widower father of one of the teens, who are seen often enough to be considered a draw for adults of a parenting age.

Even though Everwood comes from quite a different philosophy than 7th Heaven, many times I hear fans of 7th Heaven say they also like Everwood.

Wow!
20 December 2001
I've been reading Lord of the Rings over the years. I have seen many a movie based on a book turn out disastrous. Regardless of the deviations from the original source material, this book captures, at least for me, the heart of the Fellowship of the Ring.

This was a singular event in my personal cinematic experience. I fully expect to only have 2 additional similarly emotional experiences in the remainder of my life - and that would be the final two parts of this trilogy.

I was talking to someone last night and I was asked - what other book has the depth, richness, and general appeal to be made into such a film event. We were at a loss for additional candidates.

My expectations for this film were fully met. After I have seen it a few more times , purchased the DVD (along with a player), and done the same with the next two films of the series, I will feel like I have reached the pinnacle.

Fans of Pokemon will enjoy this - others will be puzzled
27 July 2000
I found both the short feature and the long feature to be enjoyable - but then, I've been a fan from the first appearance of Pokemon in the US. People without any understanding of the background will likely not enjoy this much. However, most younger viewers seem to enjoy it.

The plots could be significantly better, as could the art. But, for the Pokemon fan, this is about as good as it can get - the big screen is great for seeing one's favorite hero...
