Van Helsing (2004)
Woweeeeee
9 May 2004
I have just seen Van helsing and could not wait, never mind what these unknown American critics say, what do they know....it`s the box office that matter and l will see this film again and again because there is so much going on...the little in jokes to Bond and Q, Star Wars, the old Universal B/W....it`s all there, and all those great Monsters in one film.....l hope there is a sequel....l thought Hugh Jackman was a great hero, and a fiesty female assistant in her own right...go and see it and make those critics eat their words...(if it was all in one colour and done in a foreign language they would have said it was a wonder film and very arty....)this is a great fun film, enjoy....

Silent Warnings (2003 TV Movie)
WOW.......
5 May 2004
WARNINGS......l got this film in the bargain bucket at my local video shop, and have not bothered about it for over a week, last night l decided to just look and see....l kept watching, and watching, and got really into it, it`s a great underated film, far superior to Mel Gibson's SIGNS...AJ Buckley...(not heard of him before) did a great job as the main lead character, Stephen Baldwin and Billy Zane have only minor roles but add to the film well...down side...what did the silly girl go outside for a smoke for when she knew there were "things that go bump in the night".....but l would recommend this film to all..and give it

Errrrrmmm!!!
15 April 2004
Yes it is eerrrrrrmmm! when does it start...nice photography, good music, great acting, but where is Master and Commander going...first 10 minutes some action then for the 1 hour and 15 minutes talk talk talk with little or no action, then about 10 minutes at the end...

Mind you no one could have played the Master like Russell Crowe has, he held that film together, well it sure wasn't the director, to be honest it was a bit of a mess, but nice to see Ian Mercer (Gary Mallet) from Coronation Street in a small part...well marks out of 10...

1 for Photography...2 for the acting, 1 for the music total 4, big dissapointment...

28 Days Later (2002)
Undecided

A very funny film and l don't mean funny ha ha, what l was impressed with was the filming in London and other parts of the country which looked empty....there was a feeling that something had happened which is lacking in this type of film normally...l don`t know how they did it but it was really very good...not a soul nor a vehicle not any kind of life it really made the film very errie...also the actors seem to have a jerky type of movement at moments of action, but it was not slow motion rather fast in fact but with a frame or two missing to make it go even faster....for the filming in what appears to be an empty England l give it a good 6 out of 10

It`s only a film....

Why Why Why are some people so negative, LXG is a great film, pure adventure, fights, sword play, fantastic characters, great special fx, & Sean Connery.

I have said this on other film boards, l just cannot understand why people can't watch a film without picking fault with it...ok if you don`t like it don`t watch it, no one makes anyone watch something they don`t like, but instead of writing an epistle, just say "l don`t like it"....so in saying that..

I think LXG is excellent and l give it

I cannot agree with Jellyneckr....the Young Indiana Jones films are excellent, full of good stories, good music and good acting, l think Sean Patrick Flannery does a great job.

Jellyneckr says this kind of film will appeal to the very young nly...well thanks for the compliment l`m over 50, and l have about 16 of the Young Indiana Jones films.....so l will give them all a good mark because l think they have kept the period and action up to par with the main films...do watch them if you can

8/10

Cheers...

Reet good...
2 February 2004
Thats Yorkshire for right good, and it was, l have all the episodes on tape and l watch them over and over again, given more time this would have been a classic sit com, as it is it`s a really good one.

Holland, Shane, & Pollard try and suceed, as does the rest of the cast, l love the way May in the Buffet always said how nice Mr Parkin was-l would think!..it was funny...pity if finished...but l enjoy the episodes that were made...

Oh Dear..!!
21 January 2004
Well l hired this film (one of my favorite types of film) even after hearing that is was not up to standard, and l`m afraid it is't.

It`s a pale re-make of the 1930's film, and not half as good, the director Mr Kapur has tried to make a film using modern slow motion, l think to make some kind of statement with regard the action, it does not work at all, Heath Ledger is a good actor but not good enough to hold together a film like this, the only actor who stood out in my opionion was James Cosmo, and l think thats where Mr Kapur is let down, not many of the actors in the main roles are "know" so you don`t get that jelling of the cast.

I`m afraid l will have to say if you want to see this film in a proper way then you can't go wrong watching the 1950's version called "Storm Over The Nile"...this is how the film should have been made...l`m sorry to be negative but this could have been a epic film, and l did say could have been...

Stuck on You (2003)
disgusting
31 December 2003
My goodness, what is the cinema world coming to making a film like this, it could only be done in the US, l think in the UK it would be banned.

I have not seen this film, and will not, if you have to use such an awful idea to make films it`s time to stop, it was not all that long ago that the two sisters died during an operation to seperate them, so you think it's funny....because thats what this trash amounts to.

I am at a loss of what to say further...there are some very warped people in this world, if they think this film is funny they must be sick.

I`m sorry but l feel very strong about this matter.

The Hunted (2003)
Fantastic
13 November 2003
I have just seen the Hunted, it was fantastic, it was edge of the seat stuff, the directing was taught, the music good and the actors Tommy Lee Jones in full beard (l did't recognise him at first) was excellent in the lead role and Benicio Del Toro-who l have only seen in Licence To Kill- was great as the soldier/assasin gone wrong, the stunts were very realistic, and if you get the DVD there is an excellent extra about the knife fights and where they came from and how the actors trained and rehersed them...

For sheer entertainmnet value

Supercali.........
7 August 2003
In the words of Mary Poppins you know Supercalif...etc etc...this is a stunner of a movie, it`s a pity there were so many kids in the cinema as the humour and jokes just go straight over their heads but l laughed and the kids looked at me!!!

Mr Verbinski has done a great directing job, the music while not up to Korngold's standards is a treat, and uncredited is Mark Ivie who was the Sword Master.

The acting is great Johnathon Pryce is funny, Depp is great and quite camp, Bloom is super...take the family...how they did the trick FX l don`t know but it's worth seeing twice...

10/10 don`t miss it

Deathwatch (2002)
??????
18 June 2003
Can anyone explain this film to me becasue I am at a loss to make head nor tail of it...what was director Michael J.Bassett trying to do make a war film, horror, or sci-fi, because what ever it was it failed on all counts.

I have been watching films since I was 5 (Bambi) and in the 60's/70's Pasolini made films like this, 90 odd minutes of no story, good actors shouting and screaming at each other for nothing....give me "Where Eagles Dare" anytime at least that can be understood...

Out of 10-2 forget this one, no wonder British Films are doing so bad, sorry but thats how I feel

17 June 2003
Pity Ted can't see a film for what it is a piece of entertainment, l think Die Another Day is the best in the Brosnan period...

The interaction between "M" and Bond harkens back to the days of "M" Bernard Lee and Connery Bond...

See it and they you will know what l mean

I cannot agree with Krumski from Cincinnati, Young Indianna Jones is fresh, production values are better than many films made at the present.

I think Sean Patrick Flanery does a great job of playing Indianna Jones after all he is supposed to be 16/18yrs of age, how would he act....l also think the bringing real life characters into the series made it more realistic as a whole, l think it`s a great series and only wish l had more of them, l only have about 5...

Maybe we in the Uk and not as demanding.....:-)

Must be good...
3 April 2003
I had only seen the title of this film and had no idea what it was about save that it was a gangster film.

I have read several comments on file, and l have not seen one that really thought this is a good film, until now, although not a masterpiece it was excellent, l think Sam Mendes has done a wonderful job with directing this film, and thought the "rain" sequences were the best l have ever seen in a film.

Not a fan of Tom Hanks all that much, l have to say he was just right for the role, Paul Newman and Jude Law were good, and l think we will hear a lot more from young Tyler Hoechlin.

The thing that made it special for me, and it takes a lot to do this at the very end when Michael goes back to the farm l got real choked up, thats got to be good to do that for me

Wild Geese II (1985)
Not Bad...
1 April 2003
I have just seen this film, and l thought it was quite good, not up to the original but the story line was good, the acting was good, in fact it was a good film with a fantastic idea.

Olivier and Fox add to the cast with Olivier doing his best to convey a hard part...

I have read in books that this film was a "bomb" and a lot of folk don`t like it, but why has every film got to have a message, why can't people just see a film for what is should be a bit of fun, l give this film

Operation Delta Force (1997 TV Movie)
Not Bad not good
20 March 2003
Why why why do people decry films like this, ok it`s not a good film, but it`s a lot better than some films made in the 90's, Jeff Fahey is good as the leader of the Delta Force, Joe Lara is ok as the 'baddie' and it`s nice to see Hal Holbrook doing his stuff.

If you want some escapisum this is ok and it`s no worse then any of the TV series 'The A Team'...give it a try, the story line is not to bad either...come on it is a 'B' grade movie but live and let live...

NO!
18 February 2003
Sorry to all who liked this film l did not....Ben Affleck despite being beefed up a bit is far to light an actor to hold this film together as the title character.

Colin Farrel as Bullseye was far to over the top, and the lack of good lighting in the film put me right off, in the same mold as the Batman series....pity really....l still think Spiderman was better and that was dire....lets have another Zorro film...

This is a GOOD film
5 February 2003
I cannot understand and have never been able to understand why people want to condemn a film if there is any kind of reference to a real life situation, this film has nothing at all to do with a real life situation it`s just a dam good action film and 'Arnie' delivers.

There is a good story, and a twist at the end that suprised me, so come on people just view a film for it`s self and stop trying to analise it to much, we know the world is an evil place but at least in films the 'baddies' get their cumuppence, and l recollect that a number of years ago a similar kind of fate was handed out to a 'baddie' and the hero walks of saying....'shocking...positively shocking' and we all laughed....didn't we Sean!!!

The Musketeer (2001)
FANTASTIC
4 December 2002
Well l haver just seen The Musketeer on DVD, l thought this would be another rip of of the old Three Musketeer type films but how wrong l was, it is Fantastic, Justin Chambers does a fine job in the lead role, and the Muisc by David Arnold is just spellbinding, and the stunts for this type of film by Xin-Xin Xiong remind me of the old Fairbanks type stunts....this has got to be a 10 out of 10....and once again the music is real....

Counterstrike (2002 TV Movie)
7/10
Not bad...
21 October 2002
This was billed as "Counter Strike" and it more than likely will be called that as the title on the IMDB is similar to a Sinatra film of quite a few years ago called "Assalt of a Queen".

Anyway this is quite a good action film, there are some nifty Kung Fu bits in it, the story line is also good not to convaluted, and the fact that 99% of the actors are little known makes it better, if you see a "star" running round you loose a bit because you know who it is...#

Steven Segal did it better in "Under Seige"...but l thought it was an ok film and recommend it...

Well what can you say!!!
25 September 2002
Hi all,

First Aidan from Dublin has his facts wrong a bit, Richard Harris played the prisoner Abbe Faria who helps Edmond, the warder was played by Michael Wincott, and wasted in a silly part.

Well on the plus side the set in the Chateau D'if was superb, the fencing (what there was of it) was ok, but Edmonds goatee when he was the Count left a lot to the imagination, it was awful...

Guy Pearce was good but seemed to hog the film with his character, and l think there could have been more prominant actors in the lead roles.

All in all it passed time, but l will not watch it again unlike the Richard Chamberlain 1974 version which is very good...

Marks out of 10....a reluctant 5

No Contest II (1995)
Ok..no wonderful but!!!
16 September 2002
You get for what you pay, and l paid £1 for this in London, it`s not the best film l`ve ever seen but it certainly isn't the worse...

It's nice to see Bruce Payne as a `goodie` for once, Lance Hendrikson did a competent job and Sharron Tweed was ok, the story line..well we have seen it all before but what do you want..it`s a cheap film..and it passed time on while l was doing something else, thats how l like to see films...

It was ok, the story was l thought strong one...well written...pity all the acting did not match it..

But as l say you get what you pay for...

I had a bad copy of this musical once and l lent it to someone and never got it back, l have been lucky enough to be able to buy this from the States and wow....never mind what others say, this is the tops, it`s a great film, good musical numbers, and a good cast enjoying themselves...

To many films of this type try to take themselves to serious but all concerned are really enjoying making the film, and it shows on screen.

Some great musical numbers, big productions numbers, and altogether a great film...watch it and enjoy

From Hell (2001)
??????
23 June 2002
No No No.....what have the Hughes Brothers done to this factual historical story, it`s awful....there are so many bad points, l think it is dreadful that a story like this can maline people so much...

The good points...the atmosphere was good, the sets were good, the acting (apart from Johnny Depp-mind you his accent was superb)...

The BAD points...(l have studied the Ripper Case-this is the known truth)

Fred Aberline was not a drug addict, he did like his drink though... Fred Aberline was not a psychic...Rober Lees was the Queens Medium and had dreams that he imparted that information to Fred Aberline... Fred Aberline did not fall in love with a prostitute...(this was a silly side of the film) Johnny Depp was totally the wrong age...Fred Aberline was an much older person....Johnny Depps age in this film would mean that he would not be in such a high position...

I think it is completely wrong from directors/writers to take some factual character and bend it to their way just to make money, my advice to anyone wanting to watch a good film about Jack the Ripper should see Michael Caine in "Jack the Ripper" or Chris Plummer in "Murder by Decree"

My mark out of 10....3
