The Evil Dead (1981)

Iconic
17 March 2021
This low budget b movie spawned two well received sequels that I personally don't think are as good as the original. In my opinion, the over the top slightly comedic, but still scary nature of the movie worked much better then the dark absurd comedy in the sequels. It's cheesy but still interesting, unique, thrilling, and the effects were great for the time

I was really losing my patience
16 March 2021
This movie was written by directed by Panos Cosmatos, creator of Mandy, which I love. Similarly to Mandy, the dialogue was slow and surreal, but this movie just wasn't as engaging and special as Mandy. I cannot ignore the absolutely beautiful visuals and cinematography, but at the same time they were really the only thing that kept me invested in the movie. The movie was basically plotless and it was just so damn slow, it almost felt like a chore to watch. It's really not a bad movie, the only things wrong with this movie are the (very) slow pacing, and the lack of plot. Still maybe worth a watch, but you don't have to give your full attention.

Just 80s campy nonsense...
16 March 2021
Just 80s campy nonsense... but it's great! And fun, and hilarious. The child actors were actually decent and likeable, even though the script was kinda odd. Definitely a great little B-Movie to watch when you're bored, it's even free on YouTube movies!

Fun and not too ambitious
16 March 2021
It's definitely a... zombie horror Christmas musical, and it was executed very well for the most part. The songs were great, but the singing itself was only ok. The characters were funny and likeable and the movie is overall very easy to watch. Unlike many other Christmas horror movies, it actually has a very Christmassy vibe. Overall, It's definitely a very underrated Christmas horror movie.

There needs to be more horror movies like this
16 March 2021
The horror, satire, and comedy in this movie all came together and blended amazingly to create what might be the best horror movie of the 2010s. The bizarre occurrences throughout the movie and the interesting antagonists that slowly reveal themselves over the course of the film made for an insanely unique, thrilling, and enthralling experience. The performances of the whole cast was fantastic. The writing, directing, everything about this movie was great and executed perfectly. This movie makes you paranoid, stressed, scared, confused, and will keep you thinking.

One of the creepiest sci-fi horrors out there
15 March 2021
This movie keeps you on edge with its vague mystery and conflict, unpredictable characters, uncomfortable plot, and claustrophobic atmosphere. It's very hard to make such an affective 100 minute movie in such a small space almost the whole movie, but this film does it so well in an anxiety inducing and uncertain way. The main cast's performance was great and the characters were believable. The ending was odd but the movie was still so scary and memorable.

Legendary
15 March 2021
One of the most creepy, atmospheric, and ahead of it's time movies ever made. The practical effects were amazing, the creature was freaky and shocking, and the characters were well acted and written. The mystery develops slowly and it becomes more intense over time, and by the end it's chaotic and terrifying. It blends multiple genres together amazingly and is one of the most underappreciated classic horror movies.

Almost perfect
14 March 2021
I love pretty much everything about this movie. The plot, the cinematography, the characters, the design and idea of the monsters, etc. They were able to create an intriguing plot and lovable characters, in just 90 minutes and 25 lines of dialogue. The only thing keeping me from giving it a 10 are some plot holes and inconsistencies, mostly at the beginning of the movie.

Not very good, but terrifying and memorable
14 March 2021
The acting was weak and the dialogue was laughable at some points, despite this, it did a great job of creating a terrifying and memorable experience. The gore was well done, and not too over the top. Despite all of this, the first 40 minutes were a bore and you could honestly skip it, the characters were boring and one dimensional, and the ending was god awful.

Terrifying but fun
14 March 2021
I absolutely loved this movie because of its engaging mystery, colorful scenery, fun songs, and of course the terrifying ending. Every little moment and led to and developed that final scene, making it even more satisfying. The songs will amuse and confuse you, almost distracting you from the mystery and showing the absurdness of the people on the island. It was super unique and fun to watch, one of my favorite 70s horror movies.

Perfect balance of comedy and horror

This movie has its hard to watch moments, along with its hilarious moments, balancing things out perfectly. I loved the characters and the overall idea of the movie. The ending was crazy, unexpected, and super satisfying.

My favorite horror movie of the 70s
13 March 2021
This movie was very colorful and high quality for the 70s, with some of the best cinematography in any horror movie I've seen. The effects were GREAT. It was campy, but not too campy. The mystery was engaging but it was still very fun to watch. It's very unique but still has a very simple and easy plot. It's artistic and overall has a special charm. My favorite horror movie from the 70s, and one of my favorite foreign films ever.

Good for what it is
13 March 2021
A low budget found footage film can only be so good. It was well directed and acted, and the build up was great, but it really wasn't interesting or scary. The characters were bland and got annoying after a while. Most paranormal movies have a mystery or backstory behind the ghosts, but the ghosts in this movie were just kinda there with no explanation, which made it less interesting.

One of the best found footage movies out there
13 March 2021
This movie did a great job of capturing the terrifying experience of a monster attacking New York. It had some surprisingly gross moments, showing the terrifying nature of this alien. The movie's vague introduction to the monster was followed by slowly revealing it through the found footage style. Avoid this movie if you are prone to motion sickness.

This is how you make a horror movie
13 March 2021
The Others is an example of a slow burn done right, developing the compelling characters while slowly and subtly revealing the twist in a chilling and shocking way. The story and atmosphere was amazing and the characters were written and acted fantastically. It was slow but kept me interested with its dark atmosphere and engaging mystery. This shows that you don't need jump scares or gore to make an extremely effective and memorable horror movie.

Very flawed but pretty good
12 March 2021
Written and directed by Colin Minihan, who made Grave Encounters, I was expecting great direction and plot, with weak dialogue and inconsistencies, and I was right. The acting was quite inconsistent, not bad, but I don't think the main cast's acting skills fit their roles. Despite this, the movie has a very engaging and entertaining plot, it certainly kept my attention the whole time.

I don't know to feel about this...
21 December 2020
This movie started great but turned into a confusing and disgusting mess. I wanted to like it because it was a very well made movie, but at some points, the plot made absolutely no sense. It definitely kept me entertained through the whole movie, but at some points I felt like they were trying too hard. I genuinely liked it at first, but then it just turned into torture p*rn. There wasn't much of a plot and I feel like it was just made for the shock value. I appreciate this movie for being the only movie to disturb me this much. I loved disturbing movies similar to this, but this was just far too much. I wanted to like this movie, but I just can't

Warning: Spoilers
In my opinion, this movie was not as good as the first. It was not interesting to me whatsoever for the first half of of movie, but it was pretty good towards the end. I wasn't a big fan of the ending because it doesn't feel right that Aaron/Josef would kill Sarah.

Would've been better as a 30 minute episode of Twilight Zone
13 October 2020
This movie had a pretty decent plot, but was brought down by the extremely dragged out and boringness of this extremely bizarre movie. I like the interpretive approach to it, but when it's dragged out this much I find it very hard to pay attention to.
